Hmm in the US maybe, but not the rest of the world. In the UK for example, the 14 Plus is £950 which is a massive price hike, when you consider last year the 13 Pro was sold in the UK for £950 RRP on launch.

Yes, but I think it’ll sell well and people will get it £50 cheaper, the standard 14 will sell well too I think. They are the only models in the U.K. under that £1000 barrier now.

I think you lost track of what the original point was, which is that ProMotion improves battery life. AOD was never the point of contention.

Not really, because Pro Motion is advertised as the reason iPhone Pro has an always on display because it reduces the refresh down to 1hz, hence my point. It needs an asterisk and a note if you make that claim ‘when not using always on display’ about it. And the 14 Plus has battery battery life regardless as stated by Apple.

This is a good point, and it applies to most of us most of the time. But I don't think the extra battery life is most useful because it allows you to go two days without charging, just to prove that you can. It's useful because it allows for unforeseen circumstances like a power outage, or a long day involving travel, map usage (especially in a "new" place), multiple meetings, and so on, when opportunities to recharge are limited.
Exactly. This is why I would always keep my phone as full as possible. You could be on day 3 with sub 30%, and Murphy would make sure that junk you listed happens.

I think this is a great phone to purchase. Not everyone wants the Pro phone and for people who still want a larger phone this is perfect.
$899 for base iPhone 14 Plus. For the same money or less, you can pick up a gently used iPhone 13 Pro Max. Same screen size and processor as 14 Plus, but just about everything else on the 13 Pro Max is better.

And ProMotion is possible without AOD. Hence, ProMotion improves battery life. AOD reduces.

Apart from the weight and battery life. And it’s possibly second hand.

Similarly, leaving your iPhone 14 or 14 Plus on uses more battery life than letting your iPhone 14 or 14 Plus go to sleep. Probably need an Asterisk for that.

I think so much attention would kill this product. Many are upset over Apple dumping the Mini and a rebadged chip. This just makes them see Plus as the culprit.
The least Apple could have done is to reduce the prices by $99 to compensate for everything. But they did add more RAM so its not all bad.
Outside the nerd forums nobody cares about the mini.

Exactly, the Apple bootlickers like Gruber and Brownlee are first in line.
I don’t think Marques is a bootlicker for Apple. He is critical of things that can be a downsides on their products.

Also pretty sure he recently said his primary phone is a Google phone, so not quite a fanboy.

Awake three hours early cleaning up child throw up, I’m just reading this article wondering “WHY does this iPhone exist? Why did Apple waste their R&D budget and resources on this?”

$900.

NINE.

You might as well get the Pro: you’ll be happier.
This is why they made it, very little went into designing this phone. This is great way to push people to get the more expensive phone. It's the same reason fast food restaurants that have a medium drink option that is half the size and only $0.50 less. You'll either by the small, because you don't want a bigger drink, or you'll get a large, because it seems like the better deal.

$200 Androids have 90hz and 120hz displays but Apple behaves as if it will go bankrupt if they include high refresh rate screens for non-Pro iPhones. Utterly shameful. By the way, there is NOTHING PRO about high refresh displays.

They do it because they know they will get away with it! Much as I like using my iPhone, mac, watch etc.. I realized long ago that Apple is the modern day Shylock !

I might be in a minority here, but I honestly don't notice the 120Hz display on my 14 Pro Max. I forgot it was a feature until I was going through the specs with a friend 😂
Compared my 13 Pro with the older 8 Plus and 5s iPhones and you do see the difference esp. when scrolling in safari.

The 14 Plus is good enough for most people who wants a bigger screened display esp. for those with aging eyes at a relatively decent (affordable) price.

Apple should just include ProMotion in all future iPhones and keep the model variances simpler like...
15 6.1"
15 Max 6.7"
15 Ultra Superior 7"

I have ProMotion in my iPad Pro. I couldn't care less about ProMotion's high refresh rate. While I can see what it does, I simply don't care.

Furthermore, the other three members of my family don't even notice the difference.

I think they do this on purpose. I have my 13 pro max and I noticed as soon as I downloaded iOS 16 my phone is dying way quicker.

Agreed 100%!!

iOS 16 has had a significant ( negative ) impact on my 13PM's SOT ( stand by is great as always and battery health at 100% after 13 months of usage )

Form factor and battery life are the two most important reasons for a smart phone.

I’m returning the standard Pro and getting the Plus. The pro has been awful for me. Camera shake, dynamic island getting stuck, and battery not making it through a full day with dual e-sim (significantly worse than the 13 pro).

Given the plus is lighter than the standard pro and at least doubles the battery life I was getting (verge said it lasted them 3 days) it’ll be an amazing device for my needs.
Sorry I cannot believe you really owned the 14 pro. Sounds like justifying your 14 plus purchase by dragging the pro down.

This is the perfect iphone for your parents

young people and rich people get the pro

and corporations buy the SE

A lot of people have small hands and really don't like the old design of SE. So the Mini is really a great device for their particular use case.
Very small group of people with that particular use case, relatively speaking.

Last year the half of the top ten phones sold worldwide were the iPhone 13 at number 1, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE. The mini didn't even make the top 10 list, falling behind a bunch of Android phones.

Thus, it's no surprise at all Apple discontinued the mini.

II noticed today that if you buy an unconnected 14 Plus on the Apple Store, Apple adds a $30 surcharge. They do not add the surcharge if you buy an unconnected 14 Pro Max. Has this always been the case for unconnected non-Pro phones on the Apple Store? I never noticed it before.

Is this a US thing? No such thing in Canada.

The way I see the 14 Plus is that its my 12 Pro Max minus the telephoto lens but with a faster processor, better image processing, better battery life, and most likely a better cellular modem too.

The 12 Pro Max was £1100 a couple of years ago, and whilst £900 would’ve been better for us in the UK £950 is still £250 cheaper than the 14 Pro Max which is currently £1199 and is certainly not worth that much extra for the little you get over the Plus.

Luckily for me my 12 Pro Max was replaced a couple of months ago due to the battery bulging so I now have a brand new 12 Pro Max with 100% battery so for me I can let my contract expire in May and save some coin. I shall however be upgrading my daughters worn out launch day iPhone 11 with a battery service message for the 14 Plus for her birthday purely for the battery life gains as she absolutely spanks the battery and hopefully a larger battery will mean less cycles and a bit better longevity in the long run.

Don’t know. After trade-in, the price of the 14 Plus was quoted as $759. When I selected an unconnected phone, the cost jumped to $789. The same $30 surcharge is added for an unconnected 14.
