They did this with the mini, making people wait for the presumably lower profit phone to launch.
Along with you can't get blood from a stone. People can barely afford needs, especially outside USAI
If you read the article more carefully you’d know that the projections are that apple will sell 10 million iPhone LESS in total. Maybe the pro is selling better than they thought, but they’re still selling overall a lot less iPhones. The iPhone 14 flop is only partly offset by better pro sales, overall they are still selling less. Apple is being taught a lesson from its customers: arrogance doesn’t pay.
It's still smart; it just has zero CharismaCupertino finally puts to rest the demand question of Big Smart Phone vs Big Dumb Phone
Guess dropping a dumb grand is less appealing than spending a little more.
But the thing is, profit is what matters. How does each one cost to make compared to sale price? With how little was changed with 14, they could be getting more profit from it. Pros are constant R&DI don’t think Apple cares. If people love the Pro…win for them
The other disadvantage to choices is that after years they still have no clue Pros sell way more, and they don't balance production right, so you can get any combo for regular 14s instantly, but Pros are still backordered a monthI don't see anything wrong with giving consumers more choices, as long as they are the right choices. I think part of the reason there are more iPhone options today is because the iPhone has essentially replaced the iPod. A dozen years ago, there were four different versions of the iPod available through Apple in addition to the iPhones. Today, there are no iPods.
Another even bigger reason for additional iPhone options is because camera capabilities have become more and more important to a segment of the population and therefore offering "Pro" and "Non-Pro" devices makes sense.
Actually maybe condom size names are a clever way to make people buy the Max???
It’s plain and simple. First of all even in US prices of 14 and 14 plus are outrageous….. don’t even bother to look their prices in Europe. More than tragic. Secondly it’s called milking because they didn’t use their latest cpu chip on these phones and also their latest Samsung screens. Dynamic island and better cameras weren’t enough for them…. they wanted more features exclusive to their pro line. They ve become more greedy and arrogant than ever. They are still selling an iPhone pro max with just only 128gb of storage at that sky rocketing price…..How is offering a cheaper 6.7" display option (versus 14 Pro Max) milking customers? Customers are free to choose a 6.1" or 6.7" display with or without the Pro level features.
It’s about each consumer determining their own price to value ratio. Those who think the phone is too expensive for the features will pass; those who think otherwise will buy. It’s plain and simple. 1000% Agree! Also add in the fact that the 13 still has a sim tray. I consider myself a tech nerd and it took 2 days for my carrier to switch over my physical sim to an esim. To a lot of consumers being able to pop out a sim and put into a new phone was super easy and required no assistance from carrier.I have to imagine the 13 is cannibalizing sales HARD. I mean, how do you sell the extra $100 price to the average person? “It has car crash detection and a little more ram”? Most people absolutely do not care. There’s no value with the 14, unless you for some reason see crash detection as a must have. For most people, who have been using smart phones for a decade without crash detection, why would they care?
I have to imagine some people in the US don’t like the removal of the sim tray.
We’ll you sheep can get ripped off every year. It’s about each consumer determining their own price to value ratio. Those who think the phone is too expensive for the features will pass; those who think otherwise will buy.
If you think apple has become greedy and arrogant, then there are choices to be made. Thankfully there is competition.

I definitely don’t like the esim only either. I’m forced to use it in my 14 pro, but if it had a tray, I would have just popped in my physical sim from my Xs. Funny enough the same sim that came preinstalled in my iPhone 5 in 2012. It felt almost wrong not putting that sim into my new phone as I’ve done for my past few iPhones during setup.1000% Agree! Our family went from 2 12 Pros and a 12 Mini to 2 14 Pros and a 13. I couldn't justify getting the teenager a 14 when there was nothing about that 14 the would have made a difference to them.
Agreed. I don't think Apple is ripping anyone off. The current price gaps are off.Outrageous? The price of the 128GB iPhone 14 is the same as the price of the iPhone 12 was at launch with half (64GB) storage.
The 14 is $50 cheaper than the 12 was at launch with equal storage.
The larger 14 Plus is only $50 more than the regular 12 was at launch with equal storage.
I don't see any of this as Apple milking customers.
I have looked at prices in Europe and they are higher primarily if not entirely because of the exchange rate. I don't see this as Apple milking customers.
Apple is selling the 128GB 14 Pro Max with all of those new features for the same price they had sold the XS Max with half (64GB) the storage back in 2018. I don’t see this as Apple milking customers.
