I have looked at prices in Europe and they are higher primarily if not entirely because of the exchange rate. I don't see this as Apple milking customers.
In Sweden 128GB 14PM costs around 1466USD including taxes. Here we use to call it "Apple taxes". It's the same with all Apple products.
MBA M2 512GB is 27USD cheaper than 512GB 14PM. (1467USD)
So, Apple is milking.

I believe it’s going to sell , just consumers don’t know it yet or don’t even know it exists, I seen even people who thinks the 14 are only Pros this year

I have read several posts the past couple years saying they would love a Pro iPhone with Mini size. People who buy a Mini aren't buying it because it's cheap, they're buying for the size, and I'm sure many would love the better display, cameras, and software features of the Pros in a more portable form.
You do realize Apple had two revs of the Mini 12 and 13 and neither sold well. I have a kareoke friend who has a 12 Mini and he is not interested in Pro features. Unless you asked every Mini user what they really wanted, you can't assume. To further prove my point, that iPhone 12 Mini user was coming from an iPhone SE. So, yes, they buying because of its size. The Pro features are very niche themselves, but its the psychological idea that its the best and also the size. It has the best features and it has a big screen (more screen content).

Consumers say, we’ll, if I’m going to spend 900 dollars might as well spend the extra 200 and get the Pro Max with all the new features.

And it’s possible that the average consumer is more tech savvy than we thought or they have tech savvy family members informing their decisions.

They are aware that the Plus has last years SoC and decide that it’s ridiculous to buy last year’s technology at that price.

It will be surprising if this strategy survives next years rev. Apple might end up dropping the Plus and keep the standard 6.1, 6.1 Pro and 6.7 Pro Max instead.
That conclusion can only be made if the plus was released at the same time as the Pro Max so those savvy consumers were faced with the option right off the bat. Reality is, Apple intentionally delayed the Plus. Majority of consumers wanting the latest iphones asap would've already gotten the pro max as it was already available.

Imo Apple realized that the plus could cannibalize the sales of the pro max (which gives Apple higher margins) if both were out at the same time. So they intentionally delayed the Plus, nudging purchases to the pro max, and the results might as well is what Apple wanted, more people spending more money on the most expensive iphones. Tim Cook won't be containing. ;)

I

If you read the article more carefully you’d know that the projections are that apple will sell 10 million iPhone LESS in total. Maybe the pro is selling better than they thought, but they’re still selling overall a lot less iPhones. The iPhone 14 flop is only partly offset by better pro sales, overall they are still selling less. Apple is being taught a lesson from its customers: arrogance doesn’t pay.
The Pro selling better means Apple is actually getting more profit as the Pro has better margins than the regular iphones. Apple was probably rejoicing that consumers are buying more of their $1000+ models. This will be another record breaking revenue for Apple. What being taught is simple business strategy. Apple realized that if they released the Plus at the same time as the whole lineup, it might cannibalize the sales of the Pro Max, giving them less profit. Thus they delayed the release, and it worked. The eraly adopters and fomo purchasers opted for the most expensive iphones instead. Tim Cook is happy.

Arrogance doesn't mean anything if the business strategy is solid. The Plus will catch the regular people who are enot concerned about getting the latest iphones asap. Remember the XR? Same story. It became the bestseller on its year.

The pre-VAT price for the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max in Sweden is 13,121 SEK or around $1,166 USD. The pre-sales tax price for the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max in the U.S. is $1,099.

The pre-VAT price for the 512GB MBA M2 512GB in Sweden is 16,321 SEK or around $1,451 USD. The pre-sales tax price for the 512GB MBA M2 512GB in the U.S. is $1,499.

I really don't see this as Apple milking.

Yes I read it. They definitely aren't selling crazy here. I've yet to see one except on the internet.
But that aside, the 14 Plus is always destined to suffer from middle child syndrome in a saturated mature market where sky-high inflation makes you question your life choices. Best sellers are gonna be either the cheapest or the best, and the middle-child is going to be forgotten. I'm on a salary that is a fraction of Apple's executives, I'm not even a sales exec, and I could have told them that.

Like I said: out of touch with reality if they expected anything different.
I’ve seen like 4 Pros in the past week! Was kind of shocked at how soon they’re showing up in public, actually…

Everyone is broke or fear they’re about to be. There’s not enough different in this model from last. It’s expensive. You’re going to see more reductions if things keep going this way. Leaving Apple with less and less of their “on the line” customers. Only those with truly solvent finances left for such luxuries year after year.
This is the opposite of what this says. Customers are skipping the cheap phones and opting for the more expensive ones. The opposite of broke it seems or they wouldn’t have to shift production to the much higher pro models. The non pro models were released assuming they would sell faster than to flagships because of inflation headwinds. Instead the are experiencing tailwinds.

I really think they should bring back the mini. You can already get a big phone with the pro max but you can't get any smaller iphone. I know at least a few people, my wife included, who didn't jump on the 14 because they killed the mini.
I used my T-Mobile upgrade on a 13 mini after the 14 came out. Not sure what I’ll do a few years from now, as the rest of the lineup (other than the SE) is just too big.

Yup, Apple didn't learn from the same 5c fiasco...

But 5c turned out to be popular in the long run. There were so many in use back in 2015. And I saw them being resold for years on trade sites. Maybe it’s the same faith for the standard 14 and 14 Plus. They’ll just get popular over time.

How do you know more Pro’s being sold doesn’t also translate into less iPhones being sold on the whole? A quarter of Apples market is countries in economic recession or close to. The cost of living shooting up with 300% energy price increases has meant public spending is down on the whole across Europe. It could be that mobile phones aren’t a top priority for many this year, ever thought about that?

Now we all know why Apple no longer release detailed sales figures broken down into each category.

As I said, iPhone 14 Plus is in a weird and terrible spot value-wise compared to iPhone 14 Pro Max. If one wants to go iPhone 14 Plus, they could save more money to get used iPhone 13 Pro Max without losing much features if anything. Or, they just save a bit harder and get iPhone 14 Pro Max instead.

This “I want a big screen and better battery life but not pro features” market is so niche, no wonder it doesn’t sell well, at this moment.

I think Apple are testing the water to see demand and play the long game for differentiation from the pro models.

Since it’s a tiny upgrade from the 13 then it won’t sell so well.

Perhaps next year when it receives the 14 pro processor, it’ll sells better as its then an upgrade from its predecessor.

It is overpriced though. As people have said $900 is a lot of money, so $1100 to get the much better model makes sense.

That's cos you're in the USA where iPhones make up statistically half of the market, even more for teens. RotW they're a disappearing breed.

I think there's a lot of possible factors contributing to the lack of demand:

- It was released late; potential buyers purchased a different model instead
- Customers who upgrade at launch are more likely to be enthusiasts who prefer the Pro models
- Customers upgrading at a lower rate than before. Even if people want this size, they might not be motivated to upgrade because they still own a recent iPhone
- $899 is still expensive; monthly installments are encouraging people to choose iPhone 14 Pro Max instead
- Lack of improvements compared to iPhone 13 which is now available for a lower price
- iPhone 6/7/8 Plus all had additional features to push people to spend more (OIS and a telephoto camera/extra RAM, respectively) but iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are identical aside from battery life
- The standard iPhone has grown from 4.7" to 6.1" and this size is probably large enough for most customers, even those who bought the older Plus models
