Not sure what it’s like in other parts of the world but I am yet to see an advert on the TV for the iPhone 14. A quarter of Apples sales are in Europe too and it’s in the midst of an economic decline.

For $200 the camera is worth the difference to get the 14PM. And even more so the smaller 14 Pro for just $100 more. The price gap is too small. The 14+ should have been $50 less, perhaps $799 iPhone 14, $849, iPhone 14+. At, $849, optically, I think it would sell better.

It’s £250 difference in the UK between those models and just as big if not bigger of a gap in the rest of Europe. I think a lot of people are questioning paying £949 for a phone let alone £1199.

Remember 20 years ago when the expensive, premium phones were smaller and thinner than the regular phones? Why can't we get back to that? Sony Ericsson T700, Motorola RAZR, Nokia 8110, etc.

You have to move to plastics to get very thin so that the thing don’t crack easily like glass and metal. Plastics doesn’t sell anymore. Premium brands don’t want to sell cheap looking stuff that you can’t recycle.

Someone in this forum tried to argue with me that Crash Detection and Satellite SOS was a major upgrade. Oh please… The numbers speak for themselves.

For the fast fast majority of actual buyers 128GB is more than enough. That's not why a Max is selling less than expected.

Like people here need to realize (just like with Macbooks) is that the fast majority of people have a couple of apps plus a couple thousand photo's on their phone (and their Macbooks) and that's it.

They don't have full feature films, or music or games on their devices. They stream their films and their music and they don't game on their phones/macbooks.
I think you mean Plus is selling less, not the Max. Also, the 4K video footage on iPhones takes up quite a ton of storage. As well as high quality photos taking up a ton of storage.

And yet… all those phones had user-replaceable batteries.

Partially to blame? I think it's pretty much entirely to blame. Using your Germany example, the pre-VAT price of a 128GB iPhone 13 Pro when it launched in Germany last year was €958 which at the time was equal to around $1,121 USD. The pre-VAT price of a 128GB iPhone 14 Pro today is €1,086 which is equal to around $1,062 USD at the current exchange rate. The Apple retail price in USD has actually dropped. The issue is with the exchange rate.
Exactly, the combination of the exchange rate/VAT and the possibility of a nuclear detonation on Europe’s doorstep is what’s driving up prices. Speaking of the exchange rate, I think there will fewer Christmas shopping trips to NYC from Europeans this year based on what a few European tourists have told me this summer. As someone thinking of traveling to Germany and a few other countries in Europe in April and May, I hope the dollar stays strong.

And yet… all those phones had user-replaceable batteries.

Wasn’t a neat experience.

Cracked battery eject buttons.

People throw old batteries directly in the trash.

The trash ends up in landfills.

People can’t be trusted to handle batteries or recycle them individually.

They always just through toxic stuff in the trash, on the street, in the rivers.

Better and cleaner to just hand in whole device to the manufacturer. Whatever they can’t recycle they will dispose of in one big location instead of what we do…dispose of toxics in millions of locations.

They really put the iPhone 14 in a weird spot by not giving it the latest chip and camera system. People do care about having the latest and greatest and only the Pro line feels like the real upgrade this year.

I look forward to seeing an article every couple weeks on MacRumors about how bad 14 Plus sales are and how people just don't want big phones

Agree that marketing has a huge impact on customer perception and many people get the "Max" model because they see it as the flagship product, even though the 14 pro has the same features in a smaller size. Thinking about the 13 mini, I wonder how the phone would have sold if they called it something different like - iPhone - SJ Edition (since Steve Jobs was a big proponent of a small device you can easily use with one hand), or any other name without the name "mini" giving the perception of a lower end product. Thoughts?

I’m still trying to see what the benefit of a Pro Mini is considering that the demographic it targets is not even asking for Pro features. I think a return to maybe a 5.8 would be a good common ground for most users who do not want to go into to Pro territory.
I have read several posts the past couple years saying they would love a Pro iPhone with Mini size. People who buy a Mini aren't buying it because it's cheap, they're buying for the size, and I'm sure many would love the better display, cameras, and software features of the Pros in a more portable form.

Who the hell wants the old A15 chipset how embarrassing, it puts people off when I tell them that I bet most average user people know. Dear Apple you can’t get away with everything. I’m glad these flopped like the SE3 and bigger is not always better.
You act like the A15 is old, uncompetitive lol. It's literally miles ahead of every other smartphone SoC. It's 1 year old, and has single core scores faster than the M1s. Hardly embarrassing.

You think the average iPhone users knows what processor is in their iPhone? lol. The A15 is still one of the best chips in a smartphone in 2022, why do you think most people keep their phones for more than a single year? That chip is only just a year old for goodness sake!

we're in the middle of a recession with rampant inflation, which cuts down peoples' ability to take care of necessities and have money left over. I'm not entirely sure what Apple expected, but buying a new phone right now is probably way down the list for a lot of people.

Well this argument is wrecked by the 14 Pro doing very well though. It is more of a case of people going for the 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max or even 13 Pro Max over the 14 Plus.
