I’m gonna try and turn off raise to wake and leave AOD on.

Well, that was underwhelming. AOD off does save battery. I’m off for now.

One thing to realize, is that AOD will be brighter or dimmer based on ambient lighting. Therefore, using either more or less battery power.

Latest iOS 16.1 beta has a modem update. Hope it delivers on battery life because on data and especially 5G is way more battery hungry than 13 Pro on same conditions side by side.

Running 16.1.4 Public beta.

Went for a 45 minute walk, streaming Spotify, probably 25-30 mins screen time, lost 20% battery. Obvously the 2000 nit display on full chat.

Got to say, I am really, really disappointed with the battery on the Pro. Apple implented the brighter screen capabilities, with no increase in battery. It's no longer a device you can rely on for all day battery, if you're gonna be out for the day and using the phone a lot. I can't see it drastically improving with iOS updates.

I've just ordered a magsafe portable charger (not an Apple one) for said days out which is a massive shame.

@iFone88 the 14 pro (not max) did get a bigger battery it’s 3200mAh the iPhone 13 pro was 3095mAh I don’t use AOD or have widgets on the lock screen like weather and it’s about the same as my 13 Pro in my usage. I did make the horrendous mistake setting it up as new and beaming everything over from my old phone which took hours, maybe that made a difference in this case who knows? So with a slightly bigger battery there’s always room for a few tweaks hopefully. You can see the battery specs in the link below. I do agree I think Apple could’ve boosted them a bit more but my Iphone 14 Pro is doing okay, The only place that does get let down performance wise for myself is it when I actually use it as a phone so hopefully some firmware updates to the modem will sort that out because the modem should be more efficient.

Fair enough, I thought it was the same capacity.

I don't use AOD, I do use widgets, but only a pedometer one and one for my watch battery. Can't see those would make a difference if I'm browsing the web etc. I might remove the pedometer one but tbf, I think it's the screen brightness.

Catch 22.... I could turn it down, but it's so nice to use in daylight

Here’s a screen shot of the usage of said walk.

Battery seems great but as soon as you want to use the phone, solidly, in daylight, it’s rubbish!

Aod sucks for battery. I know people will say 1% an hour but in standby. I turned it off first week after testing vs being off and a HUGE difference being off. I am fine though as I have a watch to see the time.

Always on is the biggest culprit. Black wallpaper doesn’t really save you all that much batter so rock colour if you do AOD.

But AOD is a huge battery drain.

Not a very scientific test. While there's some extra drain with Always-On Display, this test will not show it.

Each of in that video are set up differently, and one of them keeps getting alerts. The background activity on those phones drained the battery much faster than the AOD.

A better test would have to use brand new phones, or phones that all restored from the same backup, or start with them all in Airplane mode, so they won't be constantly reaching out to the internet or receiving push notifications.

Well.

That MagSafe charger is going back.

I used it for ten minutes to test it and it had already marked my leather case with the magnet ring. And what looks like sweat marks.

I’ll stick with my plug in one.

This thread is getting hard to follow because people with the 14PM are posting as well. There should be two separate threads so we can better keep track of people's experience with each model.
That or just simply just list the device they have posting

Too bad since 16.0 had fantasy battery life for me. Best I have seen since I got the 14 Pro Max

My battery life improved substantially when turning of AOD. To me AOD is a "feature" I never asked for and never needed.
Me too. Hopefully the energy usage of AOD and widgets gets tweaked soon. The AOD gets brighter if ambient is brighter. This makes sense, but more energy is needed to see the AOD.

Over 24 hours off the charger. Used 28% battery with over 3 hours screen on time. (Wi-Fi most of the time).

Experienced the same. Lost around 9% over night and battery settings reads 100% find my.
After several days „find my“ still uses around 12 % each night (iPhone 14 pro). Pretty bad. Otherwise battery life is good.

Same, forget the AOD and weather lockscreen widgets bs in here, the phone uses too much battery when lightly used, sending back my 14P as well, going back to my 13PM

With my apple watch 7 and now the ultra I immediately turned off AOD and brightness to minimum ( I get 1.5 days and 4 days with both). My iPhone 11 pro gives me an easy day with brightness turned down to lowest. Again I find it plenty bright enough. If one does both and apparently gets rid of the weather widget how will that affect things?

It seems to be difficult for the people to read.

The title is “14 Pro” not “14 Pro Max”, though we got screenshots and battery life posts from Max users.
