Anyone recommend doing a full restore to new on a brand new 14 Pro that I set up from back up?

Why is Music using so much background time? I’ve had the phone since launch so any music queued for download should have already occurred. I installed 16.0.1 before set up on launch day. And I’m now on 16.0.2.

Also, the indexing of the People album in Photos never progresses. It has shown the same progress numbers for the last few days.

Hey guys! Which location services do you think are good to turn off in the system services portion of settings? I’m definitely keeping find my iPhone on but I feel like a lot of the others aren’t necessary but I’m not sure.

How much does your 14 pro drain overnight if you dont charge it? I’ve been losing 5-6%, and it seems like the battery usage is indicating “Find My” is being used all night.

Battery life is pretty stellar after having it and letting the honeymoon phase wear off. Usually I’d be sitting around 35% with my 12 Pro and I currently have 68% after my full days use.

I had an issue with Facebook doing a lot of background activity. Reinstalling fixed it, and now my battery life is much improved.

This is exactly that battery life I’m getting on my 14 Pro. I think it’s iOS 16, because my 13 Pro battery life took a hit when I updated (long after indexing), and I have more features turned off to save battery than I did on my 13 Pro, and I’m still getting this battery life. My 13 Pro was getting 8-9 hours of SOT before iOS 16. It doesn’t make sense how the 14 Pro can have worse battery life than the 13 Pro did if I turn off AOD. Compared to the 13 Pro specs, the A16 chip is more efficient, the 5G modem uses less power, and the phone has a bigger battery. Even Apple’s specs say the 14 Pro is supposed to last as long or an hour longer than the 13 Pro.

I love the Pro size, but I’m desperately looking for a 14 Pro Max right now because I can’t handle battery life this bad. I think Apple will fix iOS 16, but I don’t want to get stuck with a phone with this bad of battery life if they don’t. If it’s this bad in its first couple weeks of use, just imagine how bad it’ll be over time.
I was in your shoes and switched back to a 14 Pro Max. Battery life is incredible again. I didn't buy a new phone with AOD to turn it off... so it just drained away on the 14 Pro. Loved the size, but the battery life wasn't cutting it for me.

Ok, I have done another round of testing, this time with these parameters:
  • AOD is on
  • Weather widgets on the lockscreen are removed (to see if battery life is higher or not)
Here is the data:

max capacity (%)total elapsed time (hours)
1000
902
863.23
843.93
668.98
4012.2
3014.33
~ total battery life21.16 hrs

Here is the line graph generated from the data above:

Here is the battery health graph from iOS:

Here are the overall facts from my own testing:
  • AOD on + weather widgets on lockscreen
    • battery life: 14 - 16 hours
  • AOD off
    • battery life: 20-23 hours
  • AOD on + no weather widgets on lockscreen
    • battery life: 22 hours
In my own testing, it seems that on the iPhone 14 Pro, you get the best battery life if you take the following actions:
  • turn AOD off OR
  • turn AOD on but remove weather widgets on the lockscreen

Nice testing. Thanks for reporting. I've been watching this thread closely while I consider going from the 12P to the 14P.

Thanks for the testing. For the programmers here, is the apparent high power draw for the weather widgets something that's fixable or is it probably required for what those widgets do? Thanks.

Interesting. I wonder if the weather widget is making calls every time the lock screen updates (once per sec). If this is indeed what it's doing, that includes some minor processing plus a radio burst.

Should be fixable in software, eventually.

I will do another test after some time has passed and 3rd party devs have had a chance to update their apps for the new devices: ~ 6 months.

… people need to stop saying their "battery life improved" after turning off key features. There's almost no point in having a 14 Pro if AOD and/or 5G need to be disabled in order to get decent battery life.
That’s like saying there’s no point in having a bigger car engine if you have to drive slower to get good gas mileage. Of course the features that use more energy will use more energy!

It sounds like there is a legitimate bug with the lock screen and weather widgets though. After all, the Apple Watch is always on and also has weather widgets, and nobody pointed this out as an issue for the watch.

Now I'm thinking the 14P battery life will eventually be up to par once the bugs get sorted. I mean, the battery *should* be better compared to the 13P, right?

With AOD off and the screen at the same brightness level (the new one gets brighter outdoors), yeah, the 14P should get slightly better battery life than the 13P. Keep in mind, though, both might end up getting worse battery life on iOS 16 than the 13P did on iOS 15, if iOS 16 is doing more things in the background.

Destroy your (neighbours) airtag so your iphone doesn't suck battery

After 3 weeks, I still have not ended a day below 50%. AOD on and all the same settings as my prior iPhone 12 Pro. Battery life is stellar on this phone.

So the increase in battery life compared to the 12P is pretty noticeable? What about reception? Curious how the battery life on 5G is..

It’s night and day for me. Can’t comment on 5G as I only use LTE as I live in the country. Reception has been good, I find it shows less signal bars but somehow it’s better?

Oh wait, you have the Pro Max, right?
