Work from home quality. This is probably the first iPhone to be developed mostly during Covid.

Now we know why Cook is adamant about workers returning to the office. "Working" from the beach is over. Tim Cook has all the data on the lack of productivity and employee disengagement. Macrumors forum posters that claim they know how to run Apple better are not smarter than Tim Cook.

I'm skipping the iPhone 14 and probably also the iPhone 15. I'll buy the iPhone 16 because it'll be the first iPhone designed and produced with workers in the office.
When you don’t know if a post is ironic or not, you know the amount of ******** is way too high lmfao…

I’m really glad I’m no longer a day one gotta have the latest and greatest user. It’s so much less stressful. I’ll never know how much my different my life would be since not upgrading. I guess it’s possible staring at the 14 pro max all day would have totally changed my life. I know so sad to put 1k towards retirement instead.

Never has an iPhone been released with so many blatant issues... terrible QA this year. Terrible

The article implies that returning the phone for a replacement addressed the problem. And if you don't work in tech and you've never worked remotely, you probably shouldn't be talking about the experience.
I'm a software engineer working in Silicon Valley.

Hmm along time ago in a galaxy far far away ( Cork, Ireland ) I used to test this sort of stuff for Mac OS ( way before iOS) All popular software and applications were installed and tested ( base functionality at least) on ore-release versions of the OS. It's a basic function of all these apps to use the camera so why would they not do the same? I guess they dont do that anymore.
This. Surely they have a team that does exactly this for a limited production run of new hardware?

You would think Apple would have tested the camera on the 14 Pro with popular third party apps like Instagram and Snapchat before release. Unless they took it for granted that if the stock camera app works, then all others will work as well. If every or almost every iPhone 14 Pro is affected, they need to halt sales until they can get all of these units which are still in warehouses fixed by a firmware update. Otherwise, they’ll be getting a ton of returns back because most people won’t be aware of this until it’s too late.

I had this when I was trying to take a photo of my ID so I could get back into a banking app. It wouldn't focus on the ID so i had to repeat it a bunch of times. Then the phone just shook and vibrated a lot. The camera seems fine now, but if it turns out to be a hardware defect I'm definitely getting a replacement.

Are you going to comment with "work from home quality" everything that doesn't work? I bet you know nothing about remote working (nor software development probably) or you wouldn't write this bull**** every time.
I have been both a product manager (software) and a tech lead software engineer. Now I do data science/ML. 10 years of working in Silicon Valley. First started out in FANG. Now I prefer to do startups.

WFH is worse for the vast majority of companies. The only people who say otherwise are either dishonest about their productivity, lazy, or just ticket crunching junior devs.

PS. Apple agrees with me. Are you questioning Tim Cook's decision to recall workers back to the office?

Same for me. Was it the Chase app? They have had real problems validating IDs because the camera won't focus properly. Chase UK Status

Actually I hate to burst your anti-vax bubble
I'm pro-vax. Give me as many vaccines as you can. Not sure why you think I'm anti-vax?

but Apple staff can work from the beach 3 days a week
2 days/week on the beach, not 3. Workers must be in the office for 3 days/week. However, we'll start to see workers return to office naturally because those who are in the office more will likely get promoted more.

If it weren't for staff working from home during this pandemic, you would have no iPhone 14,..so be grateful.
Damn. I'm so grateful that these employees put in minimum work and collect a fat Apple paycheck. In my opinion, these workers should be grateful that COVID gave them 2 years of vacation and that iPhones, iPads, and Macs were in huge demand.

Was about to upgrade to a 14 pro, but they were not in stock. Now I'm happy about that. You would expect that they test their new products...
Please don’t buy it. This just happened to me, I think this is widespread. I actually checked the phone at first, I don’t even remember if I did when it was 16.0 or until I updated it to 16.0.1

Now I opened Snapchat just a couple minutes ago and the phone starting shaking. The camera started making this horrible sound and started shaking so bad so I closed the app. This doesn’t seem to happen with the camera app though.

I surely hope this is a software issue, I can’t believe Apple has let this slide.

exactly

also YouTube reviewers had their hands on them a bit earlier and this is a pretty hard miss on them if they had the issue. and given that some people are reporting that their cameras are fine with those same apps, this has to be a hardware issue with a "unknown" batch of devices affected

I am redundant to try these apps' cameras on mine til apple gives out a plan. hopefully they do this before everyones 14 return date ends (sept 30) if majority got on launch day
The first thing I did when I got my phone was to try out Snapchat, nothing happened. I don’t remember though if I was on 16.0 or in 16.0.1. Now I’m in 16.0.1, used Snapchat and it started shaking so I closed it immediately

Yeah I'm thinking my close focus is not working now that I do some tests. I'm not sure. I'll do more tests tomorrow. Already logged a case with Apple in case my 14 day return window goes away, so I can tell them I reported it.
So how would I test if my camera was damaged? The shaking happened like for 2 full seconds before I closed the app

Nowadays you gotta be so paranoid about your newly purchased device.
I took the habit of obsessively testing everything within the return period and it's still a gamble, as you never know if the issue is software or hardware...
For example I'm having some problems with the phone (14 pro) not registering the unlock button sometimes when always-on-display is enbled (given how disabling it restores functionality, I'm leaning towards a software issue here).

The othet trouble is that, with these constraints in the supply chain, you have ti think thrice before asking for a replacement.
I think we have already come to the point you'd have to wait multiple weeks to get a replacement, which migjt endnip having the same issue...

I have only tested the camera in Filmic Pro (speaking of non native apps) and my unit seems fine.
Check it on Snapchat. Better to know if the unit is defective right now.

One question though, why would the 14 day return window matter if it’s a hardware issue? Wouldn’t we have a full year to return these things?
