Not yet via Apple's TV app. But I think some developers are working on third-party solutions for other sports leagues.

I think sports leagues could update their own apps too with support starting with iOS 16.1.

I want NHL.
At the moment we only can use dynamic island with Apple native apps. Are the developers given access to use it?

How will that work? If I’m listening music but also want to keep track of a score which one will be on the island?

On the Apple Watch they don’t care lol, they out like 2 or 3 apps up there and you can touch in any one of them. Would it be the same here?

Should be normal press to expand and long press to take you into the app.
Apple got it backwards.

Crazy that we can’t get this for English Premier League games in England

Annoying that this feature for the English Premier League is not available in... England. Wonder if it's a rights issue? I'm sure a third party app will support it soon - one of the really useful-looking implementations of live information in the Dynamic Island.

Hmmm cannot get this going for Liverpool/PL. I'm on 16.1. When I look for Liverpool matches it says content unavailable. As far as searching it up..nada.
isn't the screenshot in the post showing an EPL game? Wolves vs Man City?

Dynamic Island is great for keeping an eye on current activities, no doubt about it. I can see myself using it for turn by turn navigation, public transportation, timers and so on.

But live score updates just seem silly to me.

I know this might be a very unpopular opinion, but sport games are not a background activity... Either you're actively watching the game (and in that case, you already know the score) or you are not watching the game (and in that case live score updates are kind of meaningless).

Yes, that is an unpopular opinion. Background scores are VERY important to me, as my team is making a playoff run, but I also have a life where I can’t just sit with my full attention on every game.

Sending mine back today.
A nice thing, but all the bugs left a bad taste in my mouth, and it costed me so much...
I can afford it technically, but not a purchase I can COMFORTLY afford tese days.

So…that didn’t work. Game showed up in island and on Lock Screen but just never updated. Stayed 0-0 even after game was started and after it was over.

Wow, no football/soccer for the initial release? The 2022 World Cup is starting in November. What a missed opportunity for the #1 most popular sport in the world.
This is literally the only use I'd have for it! What a miss indeed!

my gripe is that I wish it would work with your teams you follow. you currently have to in and follow each game individually and only after they start.
I agree. If the Apple TV+ app is intelligent enough alert me & show my favorite teams in action, it should begin following each supported fans automatically.
That's a limitation from Live Activities. They always need to be enabled manually in an app on the foreground. This makes sense for a lot of use cases like Uber (eats) but for sport scores it's quite cumbersome.

Yes, but done in an engaging and fun way. Not all changes have to be major to engage customers.
The iPhone 14 doesn't have any major changes from the 13. Dynamic Island and the AOD were the main selling points. These are both gimmicky features.

Emergency SOS over satellite? That won't even be released until November (maybe later looking at Apple's latest track records on software). How often will this feature be used? Probably never for 99% of the population. I do agree that it can be useful for the remaining 1% and could save a few lives.

The same point applies to crash detection, which is something my watch already has anyways.

The 14's release is on part with the disappointing 4S release.

What does the 14 have to do with Dynamic Island or my post?

Also, I’ve been here since 2008. I STILL can’t wrap my mind around the notion that every year to year cycle is somehow supposed to be revolutionary in a mature product segment.

Smart phones are done. There will be no “game changing” paradigm shifts in that category. The next big shift in computing will be a different device category.

Hold space bar. Move. Don’t thank me.
Why should I need to hold down the spacebar? I should be able to hit the screen where I want the cursor like Android has had for 15 years now. Furthermore, the cursor jumps all over the place even when you hold down the spacebar, just like when trying to move app icons around, it's a joke. I would put more energy into the keyboard functionality than gimmicky bells, whistles, and islands.

What do you mean? You can hold down the space bar to move the cursor. You can also press and hold on text while typing to move the cursor as well.
Forget all this press-and-hold nonsense, just let me tap on the screen where I want the cursor. Amazing Google figured out how to do this so many years ago yet Google can't figure out what messaging app they want to use. If you never used an Android you have no idea what I'm talking about and how much easier they managed to let the user control the cursor. 3D Touch was even better than this antiquated way of controlling the cursor, but great, we have live scores on the Dynamic island that doesn't even look like any island, it looks like an elongated pill.

I actually use both 3D Touch and the space bar to move the cursor. The thing I like about sliding is that you can put it exactly where you want without obscuring the screen. When I tap the cursor often goes to the wrong spot, and that's between whole words, not letters.

Try an Android and you can place that cursor exactly where you want it, including between two letters, it's extremely accurate, you can't do that with an iPhone, it will only go to the front or back of a word, even if it's misspelled. The Android cursor works more like a mouse cursor.

Works just fine for most of us

It’s not showing for either ☹️
@Ant2369 and @theeaglesfan005,

Right now, one of my four devices shows the Follow button, whereas the other three do not, for the same game (Cardinals at Brewers). The device showing it is on 16.1 beta, while the other three are on 16.1 (12 Pro Max), 16.1 (iPad Pro), and 16.0.2 (14 Pro). I’m struggling to figure out why just one device is showing it.

Attachments are 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, both on 16.1.

There’s still room for improvement in camera, battery, and display tech. Foldable smartphones will be the next fad whether people want to admit it or not.

I agree the smartphone market is mature but Apple could push the tech a little bit farther. Would’ve been nice to see under screen Touch ID as an alternative to FaceID, a better front facing camera, a USB-C charging port, or maybe even an iPhone “ultra” which is a less fragile version of the device made for the outdoors or those in fields that require dirty work.
