I was thinking the 14 pro max would have improved graphics performance due to the new thermal design. Is this not true?
Not at all. That M2 chip can’t cool. The 14 is a 13 with bigger cam. You saw the boy above me talk about the iPad and the Mac laptop. We might have to wait for 16. They might not even call the 15, 15? Maybe iPhone XV. I’m waiting for the iPhone XV.

It has nothing to do with graphics performance or thermals, it’s strictly a touch input issue. If you use a controller there are no issues at all.

Humm, is it possible to explain what might be wrong with iOS 15.7.2? I am running that on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and as yet, have not noticed any problems with it.

Sorry made a mistake, apparently I am only in iOS 15.7.1 on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I am on iPad OS 15.7.2 on my iPad Pro. Both devices are available for the upgrade to 16.3.

For some reason I am not seeing an option to updated either iPhone or iPad to a newer version of iOS 15.

My game is still stuttering after updating to iOS 16.3 on iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The frames drop randomly to as low as 37! fps when touching the screen (in both 60 Hz and 120 Hz modes).

There is no issue when:
1. Wireless controller is used instead of touch (PlayStation DualShock 4 in my case).
2. Screen is limited to 60 Hz via Accessibility settings (touch input becomes smooth again).

The game is running perfectly smooth on iPhone 11 Pro Max (no ProMotion display, 60 Hz), no stuttering, no frame drops.

All of the above leads to conclusion that ProMotion display touch input is the main source of the problem here.
Fingers crossed that it can be fixed via software update.

For the sake of these forums don’t upgrade to iOS 16 lol stay on 15.7.2 until they force upgrade your devices.

Yes, this issue and all the stuttering issues on the promotion iPhones are caused by the touch input.

Thank you for this clear and concise explanation, I will stay on iOS 15.7.1, hopefully Apple will grant the security updates to newer devices too, at the moment I don’t seem to have any option to update to 15.7.2 or 15.7.3, only available update is to 16.3.

You do have an option. You download the firmware yourself and install it through iTunes as long as it’s available for your device. It’s the same as android, every phone doesn’t receive an OTA (over the air) update at once, for server reasons. IF an iOS update is available for your device but you don’t see it via Software Update, you can just download it and install it through iTunes the same way you would update or downgrade or Restore through iTunes BUT almost ANY iOS 15 version is better than iOS 16. Us iPhone 14PM folks never got the luxury to downgrade to ios15. :(

Can I purchase ANY iPad with the M1 chip and play on ios15? I’ve convinced myself to buy an m1 iPad on Wednesday but if it has to specifically be the iPad Pro 2021 m1 version I will just buy that.

Edit for clarification: I would buy a cheaper one than the pro since I don’t believe the games I play will benefit from the better performance.

Update:
The issue doesn't occur for me on iPad Pro (4th gen) 12.9" (iOS 16.3), even though it has ProMotion display (120 Hz).
Can somebody with newer iPad Pro confirm that only iPhones are affected?

Are you going to downgrade your iPhone 13 to ios15 or leave it and just go with your iPad.

I am going to support both iOS devices anyway so I will follow the updates and hopefully the issue will be resolved before I'm ready to release.
What games were you playing on your IPP 4th gen so I know if I need to roll mines back or not when I buy.

Edit: Nevermind I’m buying fifth gen. Got them mixed up. Sorry

Just my own, because that's the only one I can be 100% sure should work fine.
Stuttering on iPhone is very obvious and happens on every second or third launch of the game for no reason.

If you want to enjoy games while they (hopefully) work on the fix, get yourself a wireless controller.
Oceanhorn 2 has controller support btw.

apple forums and the sheep in here are a match made in heaven lol.
It's not really the sheep in here, plenty of people here able to think with their own heads - the "community" on their "Community Forums", on the other hand, is a bunch of corporate shills acting dumb (I refuse to be they can genuinely be that dumb as not to be able to see this issue clearly) on rinse-repeat.

I've already written about it extensively here and on the iPad forums, and I've seen others on Reddit etc. mention it too - yes, it does very much affect the new M2 iPad Pros. It's so obvious in games (whether simple or demanding ones, all the same) it's impossible not to notice.

Does the m2 iPad have the same touch input issue as the iPhone? If you use a controller, is it smooth?

I get a weird issue on my 13 pro max whereby google apps will stutter(news, gmail).
Haven’t noticed any other general stutter on other apps or the OS itself though.
