To be fair an iPhone 7 still probably blows away the Galaxy S22 in performance
That’s not really fair, because that’s probably not accurate what you posted. I’m sure the performance of the iPhone 7 is still ‘good’, but ‘blows away’? As in what performance aspects exactly? (i.e-Mobile gaming, multitasking, etc.)

For the record, I’m an Apple supporter, but I’m also objective to point out that your post is unsupported. If it is accurate, then please post benchmarks indicating that the “iPhone 7 blows away the performance of the Galaxy S22.”

I don’t have the respective Geekbench scores to hand, although I think it’s fairly common knowledge that specs alone don’t necessarily translate to user experience

I said “probably” as well, and although there was an element of hyperbole to the post, I would not actually be surprised if it turned out to be true

If it bothers you that much, why don’t you get an iPhone 7 and a Galaxy S22 and play with them side by side to find out for yourself? Be sure to post the video here

Then it’s probably best to avoid adjectives like ‘the iPhone 7 probably blows away the S22’. I mean, if you’re going to make a statement like that, then I would post some type of source that indicates such strong verbiage.

Again, it’s important to remain objective without just throwing out random statements that have no validation.

The iPhone 14 Pro will feature 8GB of RAM, the most memory ever offered in an iPhone, according to an unverified but plausible report coming out of Asia.

iPhone-14-Mock-pill-and-hole-thumb.jpg

According to a post from the account "yeux1122" on the Korean blog Naver, the iPhone 14 Pro will contain 8GB of RAM. Citing supply chain sources, the post claims that the iPhone 14 Pro's memory components have now been confirmed, and added that the schedule for mass production appears to be accelerating.

The account previously said that Apple was planning to launch a new iPad mini model with an 8.7-inch display and a chassis that has an increased width and reduced height compared to the fifth-generation iPad mini in the second half of 2021. While the display size claim was inaccurate, with the sixth-generation iPad mini actually featuring an 8.3-inch display, the chassis rumor and launch timeframe proved to be correct.

A report from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu late last year similarly claimed that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max models will be equipped with 8GB of memory. This would be a significant increase from the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro's 6GB of memory, which currently stands as the most memory ever offered in an iPhone.

The non-Pro iPhone models tend to have less memory, so it seems likely that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max will have less than 8GB. Even with the iPhone 14 Pro taking iPhone memory to the next level, the device still has some way to go before reaching the levels of memory offered in the iPad Pro, which introduced a 16GB memory option in early 2021 based on storage capacity.

The iPhone 13 is already significantly faster than Samsung's latest Galaxy S22 models, but lags behind in terms of memory. Galaxy devices have had 8GB of memory since the launch of the S10 in 2019. 8GB of RAM would therefore bring the iPhone 14 Pro models to parity with the memory offered in the latest rival devices from Samsung.

Am I just confused, or should this say "ROM," not "RAM?" My iPhone XR has 128 GB of RAM.

Ok, sue me then lol. As I said above, if it bothers you quite this much I suggest you go and find out for yourself

At what point does it stop mattering: once we hit the bionic chips, speed kind of stopped mattering on phones… sure I’d like to be able to transfer things to and from my phone a bit faster, but besides that, what else are you hoping to run on your phone?(gaming maybe, though that has to be a small section of people).

I remember when Apple didn't publish specs, didn't get into a spec-flexing war, and noone really cared.
that was when it really was, 'just a phone' (sans MMS).
After the A4 game was over :D
I am very happy with the amount of RAM on my 13 pro. I've never had an issue. In fact, the last iPhone where I remember having RAM issues was my old iPhone 6, which was crippled with 1 GB from the beginning.
Likewise with my 12 mini. Agreed I've not seen any issues running apps since the iPhone 6 as well.
That would be one excellent way to differentiate themselves from Samsung phones.
Honestly I think more RAM could help for things such as someone mentioned months ago as a question but was an incredible idea.
iPhone Pro series having importing settings of FCP's RAW editing setup and apply (similar to a filter) when recording.
^ in a way to skip post capture editing.

It’s about time! Hopefully USB-C is next. “Pro” devices should have pro specs.
Agreed! USB-2.0 over lightning is really unbearable in this day and age. USB-C would be nice, but if not that then at LEAST bump up the lightning connector’s data transfer spec

I'm really feeling the iPhone 14 Pro design featured in this article, hoping the real product is exact. I'm considering holding off upgrading to 13 mini and go for the iPhone 14 Pro 6.1

Sounds like some really impressive camera enhancements coming our way, to warrant that much ram.
Why?

Even a 48 megapixel 24 bit image requires only 137Mbytes of RAM.

I can’t see a reason we need 8GB unless 2x 4GB chunks of silicon are cheaper.

Yeah, but El Capitan is ancient. I retired a Mac Pro a while back partially because of lack of modern software support with El Capitan.

That said, Monterey runs just fine with 8 GB RAM too. I'm typing on a 2014 Mac mini with 8 GB RAM, NVMe SSD, and Monterey right now. It's my primary work machine (VPN, business apps), until I decide to upgrade to Apple Silicon. (I don't actually need to upgrade to Apple Silicon, but I just want to try out an AS machine for fun.)
Of course it is!! But the 2009 MB came with 2GB, it was too low ram too quickly, the equivalent to your 8gb, how long do you think would be enough?? And even now, check out the swap as 8gb is ok just for very low intensive task.

My point is exactly what you are saying. Apple sells computers with ram barely enough for a few years. Any mac mini M1 can last 10 years if you have 16ram, not so with 8ram.

Our 2009mbp is 13 years old and habe the same ram as your latest model! Is just nuts. People never inderstand the importance of ram and Apple takes good advantage of this. Just look how low is the base model and how expensive is to upgrade the soldered ram.

Is their true sales thing.

So taking 3pics 60 times a second at 8MP as iPhone does for recording 60f 4k HDR requires only 137Mb?
How so and for how long???

Ram is one of the main reason (among unrefined code) iPhone gets slower with updates and the most demanding resource for multitask (the more ram, the longer apps can be in background without autoclosing)

I'd hope so.
I love iPhone with all my life ans I'll stay loyal to it, but I can't deny the competition has gone quite forward these days.
The iPhone 14 has to be MORE than "just" the next iteration of the iPhone.
… love iPhone with all my life… ?
Better love your family, kids, wife, husband , etc. not a piece of metal with melted sand inside.

I remember when Apple didn't publish specs, didn't get into a spec-flexing war, and noone really cared.
Apple's competition justifies price hikes based upon their specs. Apple justifies price hikes based upon new features that customers love. That's the upside of Apple "tax" and something that even some Apple users will never understand.
