Apple are being found out. The iPhone was revolutionary but 16 years later it really needs some major innovation.

The product is mature, and across the market, not just for Apple. same as the tablet and laptop space, there won’t be too many Earth shattering groundbreaking features but refinement to some degree. I don’t see any urgency to get additional features from other non iPhones, do you?

Take other (luxury) brands for example, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, you don't see them lower prices to inrease demand. They increased prices in 2023 as well.

Good examples of inelastic market areas. Price and Demand don't correlate well.

But when did you buy your 13? Apple is currently selling them. I bought a 13 Pro Max as soon as it was released and my battery health is 95% after almost 2 years… I’m thrilled with my battery health, but it makes me curious about how long you’ve had yours and what you do to keep it at 100%.
Bought in April this year so yes haven't owned it very long but I don't live on my phone either. I only have to recharge every 3 days and always use the mag charger. A 13 pro I bought on release day still had 97% battery when I decided to sell it. Reasons to sell-personal and private.

Well said. Even the foldables like the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are becoming stagnant as foldables mature too.

At this point, you can blindly throw a dart at the smartphone industry and largely come away with a decent device. It's really just a matter of what details you're after or ecosystem you prefer.

So your argument is “because lightning cables wear out”? Last I checked, they’re consumer products, so what incentive do they have to make them last beyond 1-2 years? There will always be something new, but will already be obsolescent by the time you open it. I used to be that way, to have the latest and greatest. These days, iPhone is made so well that from my 13PM, the upgrade is negligible.
But hey, that’s the beauty of capitalism – spend your dollar however you’d like mate! USB-C cables will wear out too.
It wasn't an argument, it was a statement. Not all cables wear out but some do and when that happens they need to be discarded.

A version of Samsung's Dex would be good.

I'll more than likely be upgrading; either trade in my 256GB 14PM if prices are reasonable here in the UK; or I'll sell it privately and buy the iPhone outright as per the norm...

Having USB C would be perfect for me, as everything else is USB C bar my bloody iPhone 😂

I currently have an iPhone 12 that I purchased when first released. I hope to upgrade to the 15 Plus. The Pro series will probably be budget busters.

Been upgrading to every flagship iPhone version since the 3GS so yes I'l be upgrading from my 14PM 1TB once again. I do the same with the Apple Watch, been upgrading to every SS version since the series 0 all the way to the current ultra and I'll 100% be going for the new ultra if they release one this year.

I love playing with new tech, plus as I always sell my old devices it makes the upgrade cost a little better.
Where do you sell them? if you don't mind me asking. The series 8 cellular was my first Apple Watch but I see the resale value is so low but lucky I bought it for $380 at Walmart and sold it back for around $420 on ebay. I usually sell my iPhone each year on ebay which is what I'm doing right now I listed my 14 pro and I'm thinking about joining the iPhone Upgrade Program since I don't really have to worry about selling it back or worrying about battery health.

I tend to sell on eBay for the watch as that will usually be the best place for the most money especially if you sell when eBay does those variable 80% off seller fee offers, don't usually sell phones on there any newer than 2 to 3yrs old as the chance of getting scammed can be a high risk that I don't like. So for me in the UK my first choice is well reviewed device trade in sites like musicmagpie which I've used few times without issues, I never use their free postage and use my own paid and fully tracked one so at least I'm covered if it gets lost.

I may give the phone to the phone carrier for a cheaper upgrade which I did last year, EE for me (UK) and will only give it to Apple as the last resort as the amount they give you is not great but it's usually safest place to hand your device to.

For the watch I will never sell to Apple as the price they offer is extremely poor especially if it's 2yrs or more.

Same here; I tend to wait for the eBay 80% off listings or the even rarer, £1 final listing fee offer...

However; I've been offered a full upgrade on my EE SIM only account and may take them up on that re the iPhone 15, if their iPhone 14 Pro Max trade in offer is sensible; if not it'll just go on eBay or one of the hifi forums I'm on etc

I don't like MM or the likes of CeX; their prices tend to be laughable IMO

And that’s a major innovation for you that the iPhone user base needs so urgently?
Who is to presume what the user base need so urgently?

I personally would like to see something similar to Dex on the iPhone, someone else may wish to see another feature, but at present you have people saying that they are keeping onto their phones longer and longer. Why? There is no compelling reason to upgrade - and a lack of innovation is the issue.

Doesn’t cut it for me as a feature to remotely capture my interest. But after all the fuss of apple being found out about, if that’s your sole reference point, I don’t see myself purchasing a different product because this is missing. It would have millions of people switching if that would move the needle in the mainstream market.
