Yes, will upgrade, and trade in last years' phone, as always. May move up to the Pro as well, for the always-on screen. We'll see.

No mini? No interest from me. I know I'm shouting at the wind, but I really do feel like Apple nailed the ideal size for an iPhone early in its run.

I held out for seven generations from the iPhone 5s until I finally gave up and bought an iPhone 11. While I loved the new features (e.g. FaceID, camera improvements, all-screen design, OLED, etc.), I hated the rest: the round edges, how big it was in my hand, my inability to use it with one hand, how the lack of tactile interest left it bereft of character.

I couldn't justify pulling the trigger again a mere year later when the iPhone 12 mini was announced, but I did with the iPhone 13 mini. And if not for its use of Lightning instead of USB-C, the iPhone 13 mini would already be perfect.

The wait for a marquee iPhone mini continues...

Nope & not sure why anyone with a 11 or newer series would need to unless there's some very specific use case or specific need. iPhones are so powerful they stay relevant and responsive for many years. Starting with iPhone 5, I only upgrade every 4 years. The cameras have been phenomenal for over a decade. I can't justify the $800-$1300 spend for a slightly smaller bezel and a bit more realistic bokeh behind pics of my cat. There's just no value prop. There are so many better ways to spend disposable income. (like invest in AAPL ironically)

Well I’m not living with my XS max another year. Count me in.
Same here. I guess my motivation is mostly:
- better, brighter screen
- better camera / periscopic lenses (does the 15 Pro get these as well or only the Maxes?)
- getting a bit cramped here (10 Gigs free of 256, might consider going to 512 but OMG DOUBLE COST INCREASE)
- USBC!!!

Ya for me it’s almost entirely camera motivated. The XS Max takes objectively bad pictures in 2023 imo. Usb c is a nice to have but I can’t wait to finally have night mode, the large camera lenses, and a periscope lense for 5-6x zoom.

I'm still in the iUP so my answer is Yes.

BTW, whatever happened to the iPhone lease program that was discussed here a while ago?

I work with multi telcos (I’m a vendor to them), and there is no question their business is slowing down. They are also less willing to take a hit on devices, making the offers less sweet.

I think it will sell slower — but I’m upgrading, even if just for USB-C. I cannot wait to throw all my Light into cables into the trash.

I am on the Apple Upgrade program and will definitely be buying. Probably a 15 Pro -- the Max is bigger than I want.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today predicted that demand for the iPhone 15 series will be lower than that of the iPhone 14 series this year. Kuo said the lower demand could make it challenging for Apple suppliers to grow revenue in the second half of 2023.
What he fails to note is that this is because the entire smartphone marketplace is -10% lower in sales for the last year, except for some cheap smartphones being sold in emerging marketplaces. Apple tried to butter up to India but look what happen with that. Foxconn backed off that manufacturing facility plan because India's semiconductor industry was moving way too slowly.

*COUGH* periscope lense & USB-C *COUGH*
I'd call the following a major upgrade resulting in my wanting to upgrade:
1, all sensors 48 Mpixel now, not only the 1x
2, 8k video (at least 8k30; ofc 8k60 would be the best) on all cameras
3, would be cool to have: switchable cameras during recording 4k60

Ofc the longer tele lens would be nice but it's still much smaller a step ahead than the 12 -> 48 Mpixel switch (and the increased low light performance) was with the 13 -> 14 upgrade.

Nah, I've been upgrading since the original iPhone but I'm done. I'm slowly but surely getting out of Apple's walled and expensive ecosystem. I upgraded to a Pixel 7 which is a wonderful phone and the text completion actually works. So many cool features on it. You can really see how Apple has fallen behind now. And the price was practically the tax on the Apple 15 Pro Max I would have gotten cause I got such an incredible deal on an open box on ebay.

And I just upgraded my wife to a Motorola Razr Plus (Via Magenta). Such a beautiful fun phone for her! I see her walking around with her last phone a iphone 12 pro max and trying to carry a baby and it's a joke. These flip phones have arrived. This is the coolest phone I've seen in a decade with that huge front screen and just the gorgeous style. Fits in her purse and hand so well. And it's a work of art.

Phones are innovating right past Apple. They are being left in the dust and I bet starting this year they will start to feel it. I hope so for the balance of the ecosystem anyway.

the periscope lens is the biggest improvement to the camera an iPhone has in in ages and we’ve waited patiently for it…
OK, my mileage does vary - IMHO, the biggest step ahead, apart from introing 4k with the 6s and the UWA camera with the 11, was the 12 -> 48 Mpixel switch in the last 10 years. Those 48 Mpixel images are SO much more detailed than the 12 Mpixel ones.

IMHO, just a longer tele lens, while certainly welcome, is considerably smaller an upgrade than the 12 -> 48 Mpixel switch was.

smart phone sales have plateau'ed for a few years now, people keep their devices longer and longer. price increases, while rather typical for everything over the past year will definitely not stimulate demand ... and the features being rumored, are pretty much meh ...
They didn’t ask for your global human nature predictions just do YOU plan to upgrade or not.
