Day 1 Taupe

Mine has perfect cutouts. There’s a lot I love about this case - the fit, the buttons, the color. We will see how it ages! Should I spray anything on it? I’m worried it will darken the case even more. Here are some pics in different lighting.

So, got my phone and Finewoven case. I quite like it! Mind you, one day wear and tear is hardly going to be definitive… looking forward to seeing how it morphs with coffee stains… (that’s so likely to happen you would be forgiven for thinking I do it intentionally)

Nice! I originally bought the taupe but returned it for the pacific blue. I sprayed my pac blue with stain resistant spray and the color remained the same. YMMV but the fw material isn’t very absorbent so I don’t think it affects the color.

I sprayed some sneaker cleaner / water proofer on my evergreen and mulberry and the colour hasn’t darkened.

I have both the taupe wallet and blue case. I like both. Scratches are there but go away with a wet cloth. But it also doesn’t bother me. But with them both being fine woven it’s a lot harder for the wallet to come off. Like it’s super strong

So far 12 hrs in the case is nice. Yes very overpriced. Nice that I have 15 days to feel it out. I’m just going to use it like I used all my leather cases. Cut outs and all are perfect and a good snug fit. Has to be better than the silicone which collected dust all around the screen protector ugh.

It’s just too $$$ but better than buying two or three cheap Amazon cases. I’m truly waiting on my Pitaka slim fit blue case, which is also way overpriced ugh.

I was wondering how is the quality of the those finewoven aliexpress cases, I hope someone gets it here so we can compare to apple ones, if they're good I'd rather pay $12 than $60 from apple.

I feel like I may be one of the only folks who actually likes the FineWoven case. Are they on par with the leather cases? No. But they are definitely not as bad as everyone is making them out to be. Having said that, they are definitely not for everyone. If you put your phone in danger of being dropped, scratched, or seriously scarred on a regular basis, you should go with something else.

This thread alone is a pretty good indicator that you’re not alone. I’m looking forward to seeing how they age but I’ve always preferred leather because it can take damage and recover. My Ink case on my 14 Pro Max has some pretty gnarly battle scars but I love the look.

I like it and prefer it over the leather cases.

It’s thinner and I like the two-tone design. It fits more securely as well.

All they needed to do to save this case was:
  1. Apply a coating to make it water and scratch proof, like the PeakDesign case
  2. Not position it as a direct replacement for the leather case
Agreed. I'd also add:

3. Lower the cost

Given your point #2, positioning this as a direct replacement to leather while also costing the same (or more. Leather was the same price, wasn't it? I don't remember) wasn't the way to go. I have expectations of quality when it comes to Apple products and this one isn't delivering when considering the cost. I'd lean towards saying it should cost half as much as it currently does.

Agreed. If this was positioned at $40, until they got all the kinks out, we’d have a success. Sometimes Apple’s margin targets gets in their way.

4. The material that is the side of the case just feels nasty and cheap like a plastic bumper - needs improvement.

I don't believe Apple positioned it as a leather replacement. The people on MR and other tech nerd sites did that. Apple silently removed leather and introduced a new case. They didn't make any direct comparisons between the two, as far as I recall.

Is anyone else's FW case creaking when you squeeze the sides?
I do have some on mine, around the buttons area if I press in. In normal use no, I haven’t noticed it, only when I intentionally press in those areas the case will rub just a bit against the frame making a little noise

Edit: spelling

I think the connection was made when they mentioned they were removing leather accessories which included the leather case and introduced a new $60 case but kept the silicone. It made it appear like it was a replacement for the leather, but you’re right they never said outright it was a replacement and the internet did what the internet do.

I swapped out a defective finewoven for another and honestly not convinced these cases will last. I am only using it until bullstrap ships out my order.
This is a weeks worth of use and already has slight damage on top and imprint of the charger I use over night.
