Well Apple cautioned of MagSafe marks on their leather cases as well so this not new or unique to fine woven. fwiw, I wasn't all that impressed with the wear on my previous iPhone 14 Pro leather case. Here's an image after one year. IMO, leather cases are just as susceptible to normal wear/tear as fine woven.

No no no, that’s patina 😂😂

Random person: "This case sux! How TF did Apple let this through?"
Apple: "This case is made of a luxurious microtwill, and is soft yet durable."
Random person: "...oh. Why didn't you just say that? I guess I'll keep it, then."

I've had the fine woven for about a week. I know that that isn't a long time, by any means, to evaluate a case. But I am starting to like it more than I initially did. I use my phone at work all the time and my hands are not the cleanest at times when I pull out my phone. The back of the phone has actually stayed clean. I don't have any stains or marks on it and so far it seems pretty durable. I went with the taupe color.

I'll report back as time goes on. But I actually like the case.

Same here, had since launch. Felt weird first couple of days but its holding up really well at the moment

I don't believe Apple positioned it as a leather replacement. The people on MR and other tech nerd sites did that. Apple silently removed leather and introduced a new case. They didn't make any direct comparisons between the two, as far as I recall.

Does the description not same suede like feeling? They also priced it exactly the same as the leather. How is it not a direct replacement for leather?

I was actually fully ready to accept any "patina" the fibers might pick up as long as they didn't look like gross food stains or something. But I can't deal with ill fitting corners. Once I see/feel that happening it's like I can't stop going right to that spot and fiddling with it and I know it's going to get worse over time.

This is NOT the answer everyone likes to spew. It does not cover dings or scratches.
Did you even read the post I was replying to? They were specifically talking about being concerned because of the videos of the back of the phone breaking; neither they nor I were talking about “dings or scratches”.

I was wondering how is the quality of the those finewoven aliexpress cases, I hope someone gets it here so we can compare to apple ones, if they're good I'd rather pay $12 than $60 from apple.
I have one. I posted my thoughts and photos in my post here. I actually quite like it even if it's a knockoff. Honestly, the worst part is that it is VERY tight, so getting the phone out of it is quite the process, and I have to be careful not to bend the phone.

Wrap your shirt around the top corner and hold with your four fingers underneath then push your thumb through the camera hole. No flexing of the phone so you don’t have to worry about bending.

The front and back of the phone is glass. How would you bend it???

I thought this was dismissed with the tt/x video floating around. The 100 thieves team couldn’t crack the 15PM from bending. You hear the phone creak a bit but they couldnt crack it like JerryRigEverything.

Got the Pacific Blue to match the Blue Pro. I like it! It feels really nice like suede. The wallet seems to stick well.

I love the deep blue!! The colour on the Apple website is way off!! The blue looks much deeper, unlike the pacific blue on the 12 Pro.

Does the FW get any grippier over time? If my hands are dry I don’t find it grippy at all so likely to send it back but I wonder if through use whether the grip will improve?

The only thing I hate of my FineWoven is how slippery it is. It would have been the same or worse with leather of course. But I just don’t feel safe handling my Max. I feel I’ll drop it if I don’t use a silicon case
This! It’s so slippery. I keep flinging my iPhone 15 across the table and across the room at record velocity every time I try to quickly pick it up. My iPhone has taken a beating thx to this case being like a bar of wet soap.

Grant Petersen coined the term beausage for things that get more beautiful with age. It’s mostly about the materials — honest and natural resources age with more grace — Leather, wood, cotton, earthenware, metals — while plastics and pseudo-posh stuff just gets used and ugly, loosing the glamour of the new and shiny perfection but never aging to perfection by usage.
While the Apple leather was far from perfect, the switch to a product made from plastic is a sad step back in this regard and not a step towards sustainability at all, despite the good intentions.

I have it since launch day (black case on black pro max). I like it and it has no big signs of wear. I traveled this week, so it got used in all possible situations that normally occur to me.
So far I’m really happy with it.
Always had the Apple leather cases in the past and they felt more robust. Only downside from my view is the price, it really shouldn’t cost more than 40$.

This is what i am wondering as well! I actually enjoy the case minus the lack of grip when hands are dry

I like the Finewoven case. Sides not as grippy as silicone case. I use the Apple leather wallet with it so that helps.

I returned my black FW case in the end for the following reasons:
- it was really slippery with dry hands
- the buttons were loose
- the port opening was off centre
- it fit really tight and was really difficult to remove
- also, while in some ways I liked the fabric, I don’t think it’s a good fit for a phone case. I wear fabric clothes and I regularly put them through the washing machine. I can’t wash the case so the amount of grime it will likely pick up over time that can’t be removed is a concern for me.

so no Apple case again this year for me. Back with a trusty Pitaka case which I’ve used on my last 3 phones and I love!

So I ended up picking up a Pacific Blue FineWoven (official) to go along with my knockoff Ali Express green one. I thought I'd take some macro shots and compare the construction of the two. With both side by side, it's easy to see which is the knockoff, but without reference, it's much harder. For the record, I really like the finewoven cases...they look really nice, IMO (especially the blue), and I like the feel too. I'm generally not too rough on my cases, so hopefully mine stays in decent condition. So far no permanent marks through 2.5 days.

Key differences:
1) The official FW case is a fair bit thinner than the knockoff, presumably because of the microfiber lining used rather than just having FW fabric on the inside like the official case.

2) The woven/coated weave at the edges is different, with the official having more coating and less visible fibers.

3) The buttons on the knockoff are thinner and not as precicely cut as the official buttons, though they work fine.

4) The apple logo is accentuated differently, with the knockoff having much more defined edges.

Surprisingly, the weave is actually very similar between the two, as is the feel in the hand.

Some shots comparing the two. Green is AliExpress knockoff, Blue is official Apple. (for those interested, taken with the Nikon Z8 and MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S macro:

After 10 days of use. Taupe Pro Max case, still looks great! charging on MagSafe every night and using MagSafe in the car.

Any dirty spots have come off with a damp microfiber cloth, even took a knee waist height tumble face down on a tile floor. I work an office job so hands are fairly clean when handling.

I am definitely keeping, love the look and feel. I expect it to hold up pretty well but will see over months and a year..

The knock off is significantly thicker which you can tell in those photos!

It's amazing how quickly they can get fake products out that look and/or perform at 95% or better.
