...also. THIS video helps a lot. I did this shortcut with my 13 ProMax which I believe shows the TRUE Battery health also Cycles.

So even though my phone (still) says "90% health..been saying this since Jan 2023... this shortcut actually shows the health just below 84%! Makes more sense to me with the faster drain I've been having. My iPad Pro, 2015 model still has pretty amazing health at 94%

Great, now even more paranoids obsessing over their battery health. The Apple Discussion Forums are already teeming with questions about why their battery health dropped 1% in a month and demanding to know how to 'restore' it to 100%. Explaining how Li-ion batteries work doesn't help alleviate the paranoia.

So how do you who want this plan to 'manage' your charge cycles?
It's easy, you just download a reduction in cycles. RAM downloading works on the same principle.

Charge cycles are the main reason why a battery can't really be large enough. It is not about having to recharge every night, but about how many charge cycles you need per month. It might not matter that much if you buy a new phone every two years anyway, but even then you might want to give your old phone to your mother for example and still want it to have a decent battery life.

It is the same with SSDs. Even if you only need 512 GB for example, it might be wise to buy 1 TB or 2 TB, because that means that the SSD will not need as many write cycles per month and therefore have a longer life. So buy the largest SSD you can afford and get the largest battery you can carry.

Absolute disgrace that this is locked to the 15. There is no excuse for this; if coconut battery can do it software side then at best it would a few extra lines of code for Apple to implement. Lazy pricks

That is because iPad is probably one of the worst supported and developed Apple products. It hasnt really progressed anywhere in the last 5 years, and i doubt it ever will. Android tablet competition is more or less pathetic, so Apple really has no incentive to push iPad development any further. Its basically a tumor in apple product line at this stage. It's only good for watching youtube/movies or browsing the internet. For any other a little bit more serious work is just useless
What is the iPad missing that you think it should have? I'm totally happy with mine and it means I never have to have a laptop again.

Is it locked to the 15? Has Apple said it won't come to other phones?

No word from Apple but honestly I doubt they would say something like that in their press release. There's not even a "Battery" field when you go to Settings > General > About (12 Pro Max)

No way AlDente will be gone. It is too good compared to what Apple offers.
AlDente is beautiful I use it every day on my m1 max Macbook... I like that it now can tell you how much power the mac is using at any given point in time. I limit my charge to 75-80%. Mac is almost 2 years old, only 13 cycles, still 100% battery life, plugged in every day via a TS4. Beautiful. I'm only going to upgrade again when thunderbolt 5 / usb4v2 comes out and then after that I will ride it until the wheels fall off.

Best app I have ever bought for the Mac.

"Absolute disgrace"? Really. I think you need to relax a bit. It will eventually be available to all in a 17.xx release. It's certainly not a reason to buy/not buy a phone.

This USE to be available on ALL iPhone models, until an iOS update (iOS 10.0) blocked battery access. I still have coconutBattery in my Purchased list.

Now Apple is charging $$$ to re-add something that they removed.

The shortcut is still on my end, but I have to create a new file (toggling on "Share iPhone & Watch Analytics") -- then wait a about 5, 6 hours for the new file to appear in the data section.

I know (using Coconut Battery) my phone has gone through 500+ cycles over the last 22 months. It's noticeable from everyday usage that right now a full charge doesn't last as long as it used to.

The annoying thing is that I paid for AppleCare+ and they will only replace the battery for free when the battery health is down to 80%. I have 2 months until the cover runs out, and battery health is at 86%.
Using the percentage doesn't tell the full story, compared to displaying the actual cycle count.

Interesting. My memory is that Apple said they would replace at 88%. But either I'm wrong or they changed it.

Great, another metric for OCD people to freak out over, especially when they don't use MFi approved charging devices that trash their battery or their charging behavior is not the recommended usage (leaving it on the charger all day, etc) and then they turn around and blame Apple for their mistakes.

Good information to have access to along with being able to restrict to 80% charge.

The only explainations I can think of for it not coming to older models is because Apple has no way to calculate the cycles for older devices that have been used for months/years but with iPhone 15 it's a brand new device that comes with iOS 17 out the box so as soon as you start using it then it will keep track of cycles.

most likely reason is they want you to buy an iPhone 15 lol. If they can bring it to older devices they might do it in the future if enough people pressure them.
If you have an issue with your iPhone’s battery, they can check the number of cycles at the Apple Store. The data is in every iPhone so if Apple doesn’t do this for older iPhones in a future firmware (17.1 or 17.2?), they’re withholding the feature for purely marketing purposes to give people another “reason” to upgrade to the 15 lineup.

Do you have the option to share the analytics with Apple enabled? It doesn’t generate the Aggregated logs unless you have it on. It’s the option just above where you tap to see the analytics and logs.

Edit: Nvm. I just glanced at your screenshots and the message you quoted and thought you were having the same issue without reading your message.

All this extra battery health calculations only able to be shown to the user due to the amazing powerful A17 Pro.

A Battery which is good for only 500 cycles is not enough. This is reached after about 2 years. Maybe this could be also a topic for the EU. Apple should give us batteries which are good for 1000 cycles.

iPad Pro is literally one of their best products, it debuted the mini LED screen, the 120hz screen, it has amazing speakers that somehow get better every year, it has an overengineered keyboard, etc. And iPadOS 17 brought some great changes based on user feedback.

So, um, I’m going to say: “no”.
That's twice in one thread you've talked sense instead of sputtering outrage. Do it a third time and the ban hammer will fall.
