Battery life never was a priority for Apple. They famously invented the watch that doesn't last a day, and iPhones definitely went this way. Hope these trendy Flip phones will stir them a bit.
All other things equal, yes, more battery life is always better, but it’s never really without trade offs, because a larger battery also means a thicker and heavier device.
I think it’s more accurate to say that battery life, as with any other feature, matters up to a certain extent. They give you enough battery life to last a day, based on their own set of assumptions of how they envision their products being used.
That’s what engineering really is at the end of the day. Managing the various trade offs.
