It's crazy to think how many items you used to get when purchasing an iPhone back in the day. Fast forward to today, and you get less than half of the stuff you see in the photo below. Half of the asking price too!

How times have changed!

Yes. They sold that phone for $499 which with adjusted inflation is around $735 and now, they sell their phones nearly twice as much and they don’t include anything

It’s completely alien to me the idea of buying a product just because a company has made it and released it and then complaining about how much it costs and what it does/doesn’t do!

If a product doesn’t do what I want or costs more than I can afford/want to spend, I simply won’t get it.
It's like people complaining that their Porsche is too expensive.

Guess the ole X will get upgraded to the Pro and not the Pro Max this year

Mine sure is.

Most of us are lucky enough to live in a time that is full of choices. If your choice makes sense to you, that is all that matters.

Corporations exist to serve their shareholders. If they produce a good or service that you value, they thrive. But there are other choices if they fail.

Hilarious comments from Americans. We Europeans have been subsiding your prize freeze for years - welcome to the club. You will pay it. You’ll say you won’t, like we did. But in the end you will pay it. Like we did. We were the Guinea pigs.

So this brings US prices in line with Europe? As they had a similar increase last year.
No way European prices will stay the same. If prices increase in the U.S. they will go up in Europe too..

I mean, half the things in that pic are just disposable cardboard/paper/plastic inserts. You just don't get a dock anymore or a power adapter. Plus the original iPhone cost $499 in 2007, which in today's dollars is $733. Thus the iPhone 15 at just $799 will only be $66 more than the original iPhone, yet its got dozens and dozens of features and improvements the original iPhone never had. Not bad for just a $66 price increase.

I’m hoping they’ll take the dollar price, convert to pounds and slap 20% VAT on top, which would mean we had our increase on the 14PM. But this is Apple, so further increases won’t shock me. They’ll price me out and I’ll stick with my 14PM though.
That would be nice, but it won’t happen. I’m keeping my 13 Pro another two years. 4 years for an iPhone is easily doable. Nvidia has actually reduced prices multiple times recently when the £ appreciated.

Nobody is twisting our arms to make us buy pro phones. I was actually a bit surprised the price didn’t increase last year with all the inflation going on.

I’m on the fence about staying with the pro line anyway because I really just want a bigger phone that isn’t so heavy. The only reason I didn’t go with the plus last year is because I was so ready to lose the notch, yes even to the DI. I‘m just hoping there are enough changes to the plus phone to make it basically equal to the 14 pro because I’m likely gonna upsize and downgrade.

Of course, all that may go out the window when they announce the phones. ;-p

Long believes the periscope lens will add around $50 to the iPhone 15 Pro Max's bill of materials.

This is not how pricing works. The price charged to consumers is determined by one thing and one thing ONLY: How much they are willing to pay. That's it. If a customer is not willing to pay that much, they can't sell it for that much.

The cost of materials, manufacturing, etc. has NOTHING to do the price. That cost is only used internally by the company to decide if it's worth it to sell something, but it is extremely inaccurate to say that because the cost of materials went up by $X, then the price will also go up by $X.

Most people are going to pay monthly anyway, so I don’t think it changes much.
This.

The average iPhone buyer couldn't pay out of pocket or has no good reason to because the total cost after 12-36 months (minus any cell service plans) is usually interest free or very close to.

Some $3-$8 extra per month on top of the $40-$45 (24 month plan) you're already paying won't change much.

Especially not considering that the average upgrader is a frequent upgrader and is most likely lowering the cost substantially through trading in or reselling their older devices.

I think the real struggle for Apple and its competitors is to design and market smartphones in ways that make upgrading continue to seem like a "must have" and not a "oh, this is the same as what I bought 1-3 years ago, I can just wait another year."

This will only get worse as advancements in chips keeps slowing down every year.

Focusing even more on cameras, displays and design/exterior materials has to be the way to go. 🤷‍♂️

In Europe the iPhone is already expensive enough. Here in Portugal the price tag is already outrageous, around €1500 for the Pro Models o_O

My iPhone broke in February this year, so to tide me over until September I bought a Pixel 6a for £300 brand new.

I expected a £300 phone to be rubbish but I've been pleasantly surprised. Sure, it has a few bugs here and there, but I'm now finding it very difficult to justify stumping up £1200 for a phone.
Or maybe I'm just getting old.
This is the right attitude to have. It was you that made the choice, and it is you that's happy with a competitor.

Unfortunately, the loonies in this thread think Apple are shoving iPhones down their throat. Why can't we have more like you who are willing to try an Android phone, and enjoy owning Android phones. How wonderful !

What an absolute bunch of cry babies !

My favorite iPhone was the 2016 SE, which when it came out had the same top-of-the-line CPU and camera as the then-flagship 6S, and incidentally started at $399. Good old times.

$399 (16GB) and $499 (64GB) were the prices for the original SE but when adjusting for inflation, the numbers would be around $513 (16GB) and $642 (64GB). You can get a new, better, larger display 128GB 13 mini for less (than the original 64GB SE) at $629.

Fair enough, though the mini doesn’t quite feature flagship hardware (which is the Pro). I’m actually using a 512 GB mini 13 at present.
