People are obviously willing to pay for it so Apple is going to do it. What else are you going to do? It’s not like people are going to change platforms, that would be inconvenient.
Keep your existing phones for a year longer maybe? 😊

I never said it prevents Apple from performing repairs. It forces Apple to provide the parts which Apple needs to setup supply contracts, inventory, and general infrastructure to support this.

This adds to cost and that cost gets pushed down to the customers.

This is the exact thing people fail to understand. When you complain to Apple to include XYZ, it costs you extra. And quite often that cost is baked in to the price of the product.

Publishers haven't left Google Play *yet* because most of the mobile dollars are in iOS so it doesn't make sense to setup infrastructure to address a smaller revenue market. And Epic knowingly left the App Store so there's exhibit A already.

Sideloading does not improve security. That's some weird mental gymnastics you got there.

How do you know they weren't going to axe the cable like they did with the brick and headphones? In order to push MagSafe, it's more than likely they would do this.
You cannot say for sure they weren't going to go portless in the foreseeable future. With Wifi 6E, they absolutely can go portless via airdropping files if speed was a concern.
Apple already created a lightning usb3.0 accessory for the first gen iPad Pros so your argument about being capped by 2.0 is practically wrong.
"USB-C allows for something Apple won't do" is a terrible argument
Don't know what you mean on USB audio. There always was an adapter to plug your headphone jack in.

What?
I agree with most of your points, other than Epic 😏

I want to upgrade my iPhone Pro Max. At $1,099, I might. At $1,100+, I won’t.

Apple, you can either make $1,099 or make $0. I know which I’d want if I was Cook.

I can't see spending upward 1K for any phone, and the only difference is usually an extra camera lens....for A PHONE!! According to the commercials Apple has us thinking we are all making big budget films on our phones with slightly better digital wipes than last year!

All other things equal, yes, more battery life is always better, but it’s never really without trade offs, because a larger battery also means a thicker and heavier device.

I think it’s more accurate to say that battery life, as with any other feature, matters up to a certain extent. They give you enough battery life to last a day, based on their own set of assumptions of how they envision their products being used.

That’s what engineering really is at the end of the day. Managing the various trade offs.
larger battery means more heat generated during charging.

Seems like this has been a hot trend with companies. Even if they lose a few customers they will still make more:

Let’s say they normally sell 10mil units of just the pro in 3 months. And even if they lose 2% of people buying which will give you 9.8mil units with the $100 bump they will make $780,200,000 more from the price increase.

It's crazy to think how many items you used to get when purchasing an iPhone back in the day. Fast forward to today, and you get less than half of the stuff you see in the photo below. Half of the asking price too!

How times have changed!

Do not agree, you are getting more and superb tech than previous models, who cares about a charger o some wired earphones, I always ended up giving them to others because I had too many from previous purchases. I prefer more tech hardware/software improvements over endless chargers and earphones (specially wired).

$1199 can be somewhat justified if the starting storage is 256 GB. However, $1299 seems too ambitious.

Wouldn't a phone as expensive like that constantly attract criminals and pickpockets? Can you just use it relaxed in the public or does one have to be in self defence mode all the time? Think late evening metro back from cinemas, bars and such. I might be interested in a better camera (but not in crazy image file sizes) and be willing to shell out a bit more but too much profile might become a disadvantage.

On the other hand there are so many people always wanting or needing to show off the biggest and most expensive and such, I think Apple could even sell a 2K phone to that crowd.

Apple charges this much for their flagship phone, everyone loses their minds. Samsung and Google and others have flagship phones that are like $1200-1800 and everyone is like "meh, who cares, let's talk about Apple's expensive phone".

Then people go around as if this is the ONLY phone Apple makes and that's the price...forgetting they sell a $429 phone with the SE, if you want something cheaper.

the point flew over your head I guess ;)
I don't think you understood my response. Hint hint: it deals with "now imagine not acceptin that that is how everything has to be....."

Please don't guess next time. :)

Sounds like we're done. So have a good one.

Exactly.

Apple has always been a premium product at a premium price. I only got a pro max this time because it was free. I have always been happy with the base model and the base model(or even SE) are still great iphones to have.

I dont get the complaints about paying for a premium product....it's always going to be priced high lol. that's kind of why it is a premium product :p

More importantly, nowadays there really is no need for an iphone 14(and maybe even 13) user to get this next gen. My brother upgrade his iphone 6 to an XS max and he will be upgrading his XS max to a 15 pro max. These new iphones are for those mainly on the X-11 lines....not the 12-14 lines.

My iPhone broke in February this year, so to tide me over until September I bought a Pixel 6a for £300 brand new.

I expected a £300 phone to be rubbish but I've been pleasantly surprised. Sure, it has a few bugs here and there, but I'm now finding it very difficult to justify stumping up £1200 for a phone.
Or maybe I'm just getting old.
