Being able to use an iPhone as a "mac mini" could be interesting for many people who don't need the power of a MBP, but want a nice external monitor while working at a desk.

Who even use the USB-C for something than charging? Does it really matter...

This. Pre iCloud, I could understand. But it’s not 2009 any longer and the vast majority of people do not use a cable to sync an iPhone to a computer

I do. I don't, nor plan to store my backups in the cloud, especially when I can get a full backup of everything to my Mac. I also use said charging cable to update my phone with the full IPSW. in fact, that cable saved me when my phone was bricked due to a botched OTA update. DFU restore and update got me back up and running.

I’d be happy with USB 3.2 speeds… but if they want to go after the pro video market, TB is a nice bump.

The real mystery there is why any device with a USB-C port would be limited to USB 2 speeds, like the 10th gen iPad, and the rumored iPhone 15 non-Pro phones.

Also confusing things is that there was an iPad Pro with Lightening that had USB 3 speeds. It’s just confusing for consumers that the physical port does not have any bearing on the connection speed. Not necessarily Apple's fault, but the USB standards are confusing. It would have been nice if Apple would have at least made their products more clear, in this regard.

99% of users just want the ability to charge all of their devices with the same kind of cable. As a bonus it should be the latest USB-C Thunderbolt spec, sure, but the main thing the average user wants is the shape of the port for power only.

Seems like a big "so what" to me? When was the last time you plugged your iPhone into a computer to transfer files (versus it doing it via Wi-Fi)? I hate to see outside companies force Apple to do things but I have to admit, when I am traveling with my iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and Apple Watch, it would make things much easier if those devices used a common charging format. I have to get my Anker charger out at the hotel room, find the USB C cable, find the Lightening cable, identify which is which before I plug them into the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook....just not a clean solution...

we really regret upgrading to the 14s. the camera is a nice bump, but in hindsight, it wasn't worth it. I wish we'd waited for the 15 now.

If they put a Thunderbolt port it's going to be a lot harder for a portless phone to compete.

Every single time. Wifi sync sucks beans speedwise. Even USB 2.0 speeds in lightning are much faster than ac or ax wifi.

Yep
Moving to USB C has nothing to do with transfer speeds, specifically since most USB C cables you buy tout fast charging and USB 2 speeds.
No one is going to replace $5 lightning cables with $50 thunderbolt cables so they can plug them into their car for CarPlay.

Wifi is slow. Also you can’t do backups over wifi (the apple way) and you can’t sync iTunes.

I‘m glad the lightning port will go the way of the Dodo. Apple should have done it a lot earlier, then the fanboys would not have to complain about evil governments.

Wifi on iPhones isn't slow. iPhones doing backups over Wifi is slow.

If it’s so important why these people bought apple instead of android?

How did you do it w/o USB-C? 😁
