All these different skus and insane prices it's getting out of hand, it already is really. Crap like this nearly killed the company once and it'll happen again if they are not careful.
the fact that more people are buying pro over non-pro models is a good indicator that an ultra model will probably sell well.

this gives good credence to the existence of the 14 plus/15 plus model.

Apple is gearing up to possibly replace its "Pro Max" iPhone with an all-new "Ultra" iPhone 15 model next year, reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said today.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said that for the iPhone 15, Apple is planning a revamped design alongside USB-C and a potential name change. Apple could replace its "Pro Max" branding, which it started to use with the iPhone 11, with "Ultra," according to Gurman.
The shift to using "Ultra" branding for the highest-end iPhone would follow in the footsteps of naming decisions Apple has made recently. Most notably, the most rugged and extreme Apple Watch yet is named Apple Watch Ultra, while the most powerful Apple silicon chip to date is M1 Ultra.

Specific details for the iPhone 15 are still rather scarce given its still one year away, but Apple is widely expected to shift to USB-C for next year's iPhones. Additionally, rumors suggest that the hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, will trickle down to all models of the iPhone 15 lineup.

I know the iPhone 15 will be the best iPhone yet. It makes me want to hold off getting a pro max for myself.
99% chance we get the iPhone 14 build style with the same exact chassis. It’s going to look exactly the same with a usb c power port. Apples invested heavily on the new production and build layout of the 14 models. Which leads me to believe the 14 Pro and Max should have been last years models.

I’m surprised to see the positive reaction to this news. I disagree. For computers and phones, consumers should have the ability to get the best features regardless of size like with MacBook Pro and iPhone Pro. Ultra works for the watch because the target audience and use case is very specific. Do phones have another use case beyond the people who like pro phones? Maybe I just don’t understand. But I better be able to get a 6.1 inch phone with the latest features next year. 6.7 is too big for me.
Fully agree. Phones aren’t used like computers, where you trade off decreases portability for increased power and screen real estate. Phones are used more like watches, where size choice is dictated primarily by ergonomics. People have different sized hands! It’s a stupid business decision not to want to deliver the most products to the widest range of people. (Yes, I think this about the AW Ultra too.)

Ultra expensive I bet. But it’s definitely the one I will be getting. Time to put my iPhone X into retirement.
You really held out man. I feel like I probably could’ve too with a battery replacement. X > 12Pro jump felt unnecessary once I switched. I’m impressed that you had such a hell of a run with that great phone.

Just curious people....new devices every year??? Don't you think it's simply to much, a total overkill. When does it stop?
I personally would rather see new hardware every other year with serious refinements to an ever increasingly buggy and not-yet-ready iOS every year with some new software features added. The hardware improvements are so incremental these days any way.

With that said, I sat this year, still happy with my 13 Pro, but I will upgrade to the 15 Ultra or whatever the largest formerly Pro Max iPhone is called. I want a larger display with the best cameras/battery life.

I was really hoping the 14 Pro would have usb 3.0 speeds over the lightning port like some of the iPads do. USB C is really overdue.
What really makes me want to get a new phone is the fear they will ultimately go portless sooner rather than later so I’m probably going to be upgrading annually until that happens.
I want whatever the most up to date iPhone is before they take away the port entirely, lightning or USB-C. At which point I will stop buying iPhones and just stay on that last “good” flagship iPhone for however many years I can get out of it.

So lemme get this straight… They’re going from an already stupid conjunction of two product tiers (Pro Max) to skipping Max and going straight from Pro to Ultra? And they have a Pro-named notebook with a Pro-named chip that’s actually not-as-pro as a Max or an Ultra?

Apple’s naming makes about as much sense as a chocolate kettle.

Only if it has 1" type sensors for all 3 lenses and can output clean raw data. If not, then HDMI input from external camera.

Maybe the Ultra is the new top-end portless version we've heard the odd rumor or two about? Just guessing.

Could be it. I am guessing there will be regular iPhone, iPhone plus , an iPhone pro and iPhone ultra. That pro max stuff is getting stale.

But it makes me wonder if there will be a Apple Watch pro.(smaller sized ultra, 45-46mm?) . So an Apple Watch, Apple Watch pro and ultra ?

And a MacBook ultra? 😂

I prefer the name Ultra over Pro Max. I hate Pro branding on products. It's become meaningless now. There was a time Pro meant it was for Professionals but now it just means give us more money if you don't want our half assed cut down product.
And an iPhone Ultra wouldn't mean "give us more money if you don't want our half assed cut down product?" 🤣 Come on?

What percentage of the people buying the Apple Watch Ultra will actually use it for the extreme sports that Apple shows people using it for in their advertising?

I'm going to say not many... less than 25%. People will buy the Watch Ultra because they can, because of the longer battery life, because they want to show if off like a fashion accessory, etc. It's like the people who buy big trucks and SUVs but never take them off-roading or use it to haul or tow stuff; They buy them to show how macho they are.

Or do like they used to do with the mac line:

iPhone
Iphone air (take the place of the base pro)
Iphone ultra (take the place of the current pro max).

Get rid of the pro naming since apple has diluted it so heavily.
I am leaning more towards:

iPhone
iPhone plus
iPhone pro
iPhone ultra

Wait until you see the iPhone 16. It'll be even better. That will be the best iPhone yet. So hold off a little longer.

Though I hear the iPhone 17 will blow the iPhone 16 out of the water. Even faster processor, even better battery life, etc. Might as well wait for that. What's another year? :p

99% the Ultra will be new high end tier, not a Pro Max replacement.

With mostly likely disnguishing feature to be telephoto zoom (like S22U), and maybe slighty larger screen 6.8"-6.9" .
