I feel like the plus is not needed (unless they are pricing it much lower than current prices). Not enough of a difference in price as it sits now especially with the weaker specs.
You are not the target market for the Plus. By posting here, you are likely an enthusiast customer and will value extra features more.

A more typical customer will look at the Plus for $899 and the Pro Max at $1099 and quickly pick the Plus. Big screen for less money. You can always bet on that winning in a lot of consumer’s minds. All those other incrementally better features in the Pro Max won’t matter to them.

i just dont see apple giving up all that money they make for MFi certification with their proprietary lighting cable, not when they nickle and dime us for everything else
That's what MagSafe is for.
"Ultra" makes sense. It will finally put rest the idea and notion that so many here cling to, and refuse to acknowledge, is that word "Pro," in the context of iPhones and laptops, has absolutely nothing to do with them being targeted towards professionals. It's simply a convenient features and pricing tier.
Agreed with the iPhone but not with laptops. I think "Pro" makes the most sense on Macs actually. The improved specs/design make more demanding tasks like video or photo editing/rendering (which professionals can actually benefit from) more efficient. And the built in fans keep the MacBook Pro cooler during intensive use so it doesn't thermal throttle.

If Apple want to avoid negative press, they should not offer USB-C only to the Ultra or even the Pro and Ultra models.
EU forces Apple to USB-C across all products sold there. If Apple would try to only sell USB-C iPhone in EU, people in US would start importing phones. Outcome would be chaotic for Apple to manage and their customers would hate it.

⇒ I bet all products will go USB-C globally next year

Starting to look like cosmetic changes. Performance getting less of upgrade year over year and not much noticeable with everyday usage.

Titanium and USB C? Just hope it’s not crazy expensive and only in the Pro Max size. And no ugly lumps and bumps please. Don’t like the Apple Watch ultra.
Adding titanium to the iPhone seems to be too difficult for Apple to do and if somehow they’re able to pull it off next year, it will definitely force them to raise the price. Maybe Apple held off using Titanium this year because they thought sales would go way down if $1,199 was the starting price for the 128GB 14 Pro.

$1500 starting price? Anybody?

Iphone X normalized the flagship phone price from $650 to $999. Time to take it to new level with the Ultra.

It better have more RAM than a MacBook.

Apple is gearing up to possibly replace its "Pro Max" iPhone with an all-new "Ultra" iPhone 15 model next year, reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said today.

iphone-14-pro-max-deep-purple.jpg

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said that for the iPhone 15, Apple is planning a revamped design alongside USB-C and a potential name change. Apple could replace its "Pro Max" branding, which it started to use with the iPhone 11, with "Ultra," according to Gurman.
The shift to using "Ultra" branding for the highest-end iPhone would follow in the footsteps of naming decisions Apple has made recently. Most notably, the most rugged and extreme Apple Watch yet is named Apple Watch Ultra, while the most powerful Apple silicon chip to date is M1 Ultra.

Specific details for the iPhone 15 are still rather scarce given it's still one year away, but Apple is widely expected to shift to USB-C for next year's iPhones. Additionally, rumors suggest that the hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro, will trickle down to all models of the iPhone 15 lineup.

That’s what I said, iPhone 15 ultra, iPhone 16 Ultimate.

No, they won't. With the promos that the carriers push, the pro is still a better option for 99% of people. I never claimed I was the target audience.

I'm not sure Steve would approve of the number of models currently available and the direction Apple have taken. So many models and now this to force the top end of the market even higher.
This was brought up here
Nobody cares what he’d do.
I wished he lived longer as I’d wish for anybody but I like the post Jobs Apple mich better.
Jobs just failed too much.
Ping! :D

Might as well just drop the Pro branding. It should be:

iPhone SE (4.7")
iPhone 15 Mini (5.4")
iPhone 15 (6.1")
iPhone 15 Plus (6.7")
iPhone 15 Pro (6.1")
iPhone 15 Ultra (6.7")

infact that doesn't make any sense with the current rumors. the next SE is meant to be based on the XR at 6.1". Apple will ditch the 5.4" 13 Mini next year. So 6.1" will be the smallest screen size next year. so we'll probably get:

SE (6.1")
15 (6.1")
15 Plus (6.7")
15 Pro (6.1")
15 Ultra (6.7")
I have no doubt they will keep the Pro and Pro Max lines and introduce the Ultra above them, which will come only in a 6.7" size. Pro and Pro Max are their money makers and the Ultra branding will segment the product line further and push those who can afford it to a higher end product.

Apple will definitely take advantage of the demand and make USB-C a spec that only the most expensive iPhones get. At least for the 2023 lineup.

In 2024 E.U. regulations kick in so by that time the entire lineup will get it.

Only way for Apple to keep MFi profits high post USB-C is by upgrading iPhone MagSafe charging drastically and somehow making it far more attractive than any other port of wireless charging solution.

Sure, just keep upping the specs and the price and see how high people are willing to go!

Upping the specs yes, but not necessarily upping the price. Despite various improvements, Apple hasn’t increased U.S. prices of the Pro or Pro Max models since they were introduced in 2019. In fact, the 256GB and 512GB iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models are $50 cheaper than the 256GB and 512GB iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max were in 2019.

If we are lucky, this purported Ultra iphone will in fact be their eagerly awaited iFOLD phone. The candy bar design has reached its peak now, no where left to go apart from foldables or flip phones like what Samsung have done.

The $699 (starting price) iPhone 8 was a fine phone but I think Apple wanted to compete more with Samsung's flagship phones which in 2017 (when the iPhone X came out) were also in the $999 price range and higher.

Also keep in mind that $999 in 2017 is the equivalent of around $1,200 in today's dollars. You can get the larger, much better 14 Pro Max with twice the storage for $100 less today.

Apple sliding this story out to condition people for the incoming price hike lol. Not REALLY hating, but I’ve definitely grown out of needing the flagship of whatever they put it. Just not for me. Yes phones are powerful and awesome and integrated into our lives but paying $1000 even if just every FEW years is just crazy. I’ll stick with my 12 until they obsolete it or throw some wild new innovation at us that really turns me on.

TBH, I don't really mind the ever increasing upper price. Set it for $2000 for all I care. The problem with today's Apple is that they intentionally keep certain features just for the highest flagship model, ie. telephoto lens.

With the old Apple, if I don't want to pay the flagship price, all I need is to wait next year or two, and the exact same flagship will be reduced in price as Apple simply shifted the lineup downwards. With the new Apple, this is only valid for the non Pro models as Apple keeps the Pro models at the $999 and up.
