Annoyed... Went in at exactly 6:00am MDT and waiting about 5 minutes (presumably in line) and finalized the preorder. The confirmation was 6:14am MDT with an October 2nd ship date. This is the first year I just paid for it outright instead of Apple Upgrade. Apparently I'm being punished by 12 days for paying upfront. (ya, I know it's a first world problem and it's not the end of the world, but it's just highly suspect based on talking to others in my area that did Apple Upgrade by 15 or 20 minutes later than me and they're getting in on Sept. 20th.)
Hmmm, I paid in full and like others got a date of the 20th. I ordered a 16 pro natural with 512 on verizon. Wonder what you ordered that was more limited

if the loss of value would not be that crazy high on ip15PM i would’ve buy the new 16. The button alone would have been a good reason for me.
But it’s not 800-900€ worth it.

A lot of these so called "delays" are pure marketing tricks. I recall last year colleagues of mine who got the 15 Pro / Pro Max and their shipping date was mid October and they all got theirs on launch day in the end...

The last time I recall the shipping delays actually being correct was with the iPhone X launch - which was unseen as I recall myself. I had ordered my iPhone X 256GB in the very first seconds so I got it on launch day, but a couple of seconds later shipping had slipped to mid-late December and even 2018.
Yeah, I didn’t preorder the X and just walked into a Apple Store the first week in January 2018, exactly two months after release to buy my 256GB silver X.

I don’t think demand will be high. Now a redesigned 17 Pro or “Air” will be a different story.
I'm skeptical of any 'air' model. I suspect it will be more limited (at least battery) and be a special fashion statement model. But at least it could be a start towards exploring the issues with a thinner phone for the future.

Here in Germany I logged in at about 20 past the hour and got an 11:15 pick up slot on the 20th for a 512 Pro 👍

If it slips into October I'll be cancelling my order and waiting.

I preorder for convenience. The last 2-3 releases, after launch day, you could go to the apple store or carrier and pick one up same day, unless you were super picky about colors. Sometimes certain colors sell out faster, but there was always stock without waiting in line all day.

In fact when the Ultra launched I pre-ordered through apple, and it eventually updated and said it was going to be like 5 weeks to get my watch. I literally went down the the apple store that next week, when it was originally supposed to ship and bought it directly and cancelled my 4 week delayed online order.....it was simply related to my choice in band I think, and so I just bought the band that I really wanted and had two. So weird.

That was my experience too. I was late to the game on the 12 but was able to walk into my local Apple store on launch day and walk out with exactly the model I wanted: 12 Pro in 256GB despite the website saying deliveries were late November at that point.

And that's fine, but at the same time don't lump everyone into the same category. There are some of us who find certain features to be things we really want and are willing to pay for.

For example, I had a similar conversation with someone when the Always On Display came out with the the 14 and they were mocking everyone who considered upgrading. That has been such a wonderful feature for me, which which I'd been waiting so long. Similarly there are folks who will see something in the 16 that they really want, and they'll upgrade from a 15.

Or, people in multi-phone households like mine are different too - when I get a new phone, my wife gets my old one, our oldest gets hers, and my poor daughter gets my son's (luckily everyone really looks after their things well!!) So again, we tend to upgrade nearly annually and I'm the one who most loves gadgets, so I get to enjoy a new phone.

I wish everyone would just worry about themselves, their own needs and wants, and stop opining on everyone else's decisions.

I was merely posting my personal experience on why I choose not to upgrade once again. That fact that you seem to be butt hurt from my post is another issue (of yours). lol

The thought of an "Air" phone does nothing for me. I don't consider the iPhone large or heavy, and I'd choose durability (and more battery life) over one that was thinner and lighter. If they do it with the 17 next year, we're going to be reliving "bendgate" all over again.

I paid upfront for two Pro Max at 5:02 and got delivery for the 20th of September. You were just too late to get the first batch, it had nothing to do with how you paid for it.

What fascinates me about comments such as this is the lack of realization that your current phone is so good, still, that you simply don't need to upgrade. The fact that you aren't motivated shows how good Apple products are (as you say, but don't seem to realize.)

Like I said before, my 13 PM still looks brand new. My phone still works as brand new. My battery life is still at 97% capacity which I think is crazy for a three year old phone. That comes from having very good charging methods. Not going below 20% and not going over 80%. But anyway...... My phone still takes excellent pictures as well as excellent videos. And just like I said before, the small changes between my phone and these newer phones isn't worth it to me. I would get $400 from Apple on trade in value for my phone. This means I would have to shell out another $800 for the new phone.

Am I going to see $800 worth of upgrades between my phone and the new phone? Not unless the new phone can do something really crazy like clean my house for me while I sleep. lol

I don't miss the days of the old processes, I still like to get a new phone yearly even though I don' need to, I had them through the family and get at least 4 years out of them.

Woke up at 5:20am, clicked the complete purchase for my saved pre-order, got a 9/20 delivery date, went and made coffee.

True story: I have an iPhone "1" that I bought new, day of launch, walked right into the Apple Store in Newport Beach CA and got it there, maybe a 10 minute line. It wasn't until a couple years later that the insanity really kicked into gear.

The thing had a lot of compromises even at the time (edge vs 3g) but the interface and platform you knew this was going to be something special. At the time I was using a Treo 680 for anyone old enough to remember those!

yes, hoping for same this year. Last year I completed my pre-order within 10 min and shipping was Oct 2 - 7 but after a few days order updated to reflect launch day arrival. This year, ordered within 10min and same shipping date window at order completion. So now hoping date moves up in next few days again

For all those saying it is a "marketing gimmick", come back on 9/20 and see how many complaints there are from people expecting a bump to launch day delivery from October delivery range.
Not counting on it. but that is what happened last year. Ordered within first 10min and got delivery in early October. Then days later when order processed, the delivery date bumped up several weeks to launch day arrival. Recall several in forum were reflecting the same happening.

Relax, there's no need to stress about this marketing tactic. Plenty of great phones are available. If you're using an iPhone 12 or newer, don't get caught up in the hype of a new iPhone launch - your current device is still excellent and can last a while longer. And if you're coming from Android, you're not missing out on much.

A website where us Apple fanatics come together to discuss all-things-Apple obsessivley is probably not the best venue for a message like yours.

People here want the best of the best, and they want it yesterday - myself included.

…No: As a sign of their supply chain prowess, often the highest-end Apple products are available as close to a “made-to-order” fashion as much as possible or are.

These products are shipping to the destination of users directly from China and other location factories in a way that minimizes excess stock and unsold ones.

The iPhone Pro, iPad Pro, Vision Pro, and the Pro Display XDR are absolutely handled this way accounting for the prosumer-class panels they have and other niche components like modems that are the bottlenecks.

Right. Apple is building such good phones that you don't feel a need to upgrade. That's a GOOD thing.
