How many people actually transfer a bunch of stuff regularly over USB? How many people would this actually matter to at all? It has to be a fraction of a single percentage point... something like .03%. And I mean both pro and non-pro iPhone users...

Almost no one is transferring anything over a wire in 2024. If it's important to you, buy the pro.

This is just something for people to get upset about.
It is how I back up my iphone, don‘t trust icloud.

To be fair, how many current iPhone users actually transfer data over the USB port?
Me. I have a 25 year old music library and a large photo and video library. I backup to my Mac because I’m not buying cloud storage for no reason and I’m keeping local copies as I don’t trust cloud storage anyway.

Just because you relinquish ownership of all your media and your monthly paycheque to your tech overlords, doesn’t mean everyone else does too.

Maybe they improved the real world transfer speed for the pro models, not just the theoretical link speed.

If you’re someone that knows the difference between USB 2 and 3, you probably should be buying the Pro model….

For normal people out there who never plug anything other than the charger into their phone , the regular iPhone is fine

USB 3 is a 2008 technology. It's not a pro feature. Neither is a 120hz refresh rate display. Apple's penny pinching with these things is really doing long-term damage to the brand.

These aren't road apples like the core solo Mac mini, these are cutbacks on their hero product. "Dat ecosystem doe" is the only reason they're able to do this, in an actual competitive marketplace these phones would be DOA.

I wiked the wainbow. Fankyou Tim. But why does your wainbow onwy have 1-2-3-4-5-6! cowors? Weal wainbows have 7, wike my age. So pwetty pwease stop being so patwonising.

This is how the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 camera layout should have been, limit the bump to the cameras, while the diagonal arrangement on iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15 justifies the square-like camera bump...

By the time the non-Pro models get USB 3.x the Pro models will be on USB 4.x or faster...

I’m not sure how anything you said contradicts my post. I’m not sure how most of it even relates. Maybe you quoted the wrong post in your reply?

All I was talking about is most iPhone users don’t know what USB 2 or 3 is. They don’t care because they don’t use this feature. I’m not sure how this relates to when USB 3 was invented or something about the Mac mini. I’m really confused on that one.

How do you know what they care about?
Survey says?

Apple planted these little easter eggs of bad news to shadow the fact AirPods Max have h1 chips and lost support for wired audio (which technically wasn't that great since the wired audio was converted from bluetooth to get from the left ear cup to the right, creating latency and degradation).

Which is why the AirPods Max surprisingly did not support lossless audio

pretty obvious this was going to happen even before iPhones switched to USB-C

Apple gave the minority thinking USB-C = faster USB a big HA HA! last year already and this isn't going to change since their goal is to make you pay for the higher margin Pros

I watched every Keynote before since maybe 2012 and didn't even try to watch one of those pre-produced when they started in 2020.

Very sad.

A friend showed me some new Android phones that he might buy one from and every single one also had only USB 2.0 speed. I always thought this had been only an Apple thing.
Pixel, OnePlus (top tier models) and Samsung Galaxy S series all have USB 3.2 10 gbps Type C ports.

Apple knows very well that the moment they include 120hz screens and USB 3.2 Type C ports for their dirt tier iPhones, I WILL STOP BUYING THEIR OVERPRICED PRO MODELS and get their dirt tier non pro models. So these 2 features will never land on non pro models. Upselling is so hard here almost on “Desperate” levels.

So dozens out of billions.
Gotta love that sample size, lol.
You should try not making stuff up.
Next.
Yeah, not making anything up. Dozens is enough to know what people do. I don’t need a scientific study. Although I bet Apple uses metrics on this and they also determined it was not necessary. I bet their numbers are more than dozens.

Me. It's the best and fastest way to transfer photos from my iPhone to my Mac.
I guess you’ll be buying the Pro model or waiting a few extra minutes for the slower USB 2. I can’t imagine photos taking terribly long. Now if you’re talking about videos, I would not want to transfer them on USB 2 🤦‍♂️

As a 20+ year Apple fanatic willing to buy pretty much most Apple products, I'm completely underwhelmed at recent yearly updates. I seem to be spending less and less on Apple products every year simply because they no longer provide any real value to upgrade. I literally have money in hand to buy upgrades but I just don't have that same excitement about any features they are pushing. You would think Apple's most important customer is the one they already have. Give me a reason to give you my money. I've bought one Apple TV this year...that's it!
