Kids that don’t need a phone with all the fixings but like the size and brand.

Not just kids. I don't need a phone with all the fixings.

I'm good with my 16 Pro for a 3-4 years, but after that, I'll be looking for something more minimal and this would fit the bill, if it's priced below the Pro and an equal or smaller screen than the regular 16.

So this is a FACT then. There is an iPhone called the iPhone air and its launching this year.

.. or is it?

Nothing is a fact until Apple personally announces it.

my point exactly.

How is this article a fact. it's written as such. Sure it might turn out to be largely true but right now its January and such a device is months away from being unveiled if at all.

No bottom speaker seems weird.

Anyways, in a way this almost seems like an SE Plus phone but with probably a high price tag. I doubt I would buy it but I will be curious about it just for curiosity's sake.

so your article is titled 'new features', and your listicle for those 'new features' include:
-base model chip
-current ram amount
-fewer cameras
-fewer speakers

the word you are looking for is, 'rumored specs' not 'new features'. the only 'feature' of this phone appears to be that its thin. thats it. and then all the regressive compromises that are required to achieve that.

Where does that come from? It was supposed to replace the Plus so it can’t get priced above a Pro Max. It obviously has way less features, no cameras, no speakers. It actually seems like an iPhone SE replacement, not even the SE lacks a speaker. How can it lack a soeaker? So no more stereo sound?

Could have a higher price tag ≠ will have a higher price tag

I don't know where The Information is getting that from, but up until now all rumors have pointed to the Air being priced less than a Pro and Pro Max

For example:

When Apple unveils its iPhone 17 suite of handsets in the fall, it looks like there’ll be one that’s different from anything that’s gone before. Nicknamed the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim—though it could be called something quite different—it promises a new design and a strikingly different feel, a new report says.

[ . . . ]

The report also comments on the price, saying that it will be similar to the iPhone 16 Plus — there’s no Plus model expected in this fall’s iPhone range.

This is good news as some previous reports had suggested that the iPhone 17 Air could cost as much as the more expensive Pro iPhones.

The current iPhone 16 Plus costs from $899, so the new report suggests this will be the same as that. This chimes with a recent report from the Wall Street Journal which claimed that the iPhone 17 Air will likely cost around $899.

lol, only two things could drive me to buy a 17. A dramatically upgraded camera package, or a iPhone Pro Mini with the current Pro camera package. Not a faster processor, not a better display, not thinner, the Phones are already great, and there are no applications pushing it forward, it’s a phone in the end…

I don't care about thin. I'm only interested in this because of the screen size, but if the battery is less than others or significantly less features I wouldn't be interested.

Who said that? Isn't the general consensus that the Air will replace the Plus in the $899 slot? It's too heavily compromised hardware wise to warrant costing more than the Pro series.

There was an early rumor saying that the "Slim" would be an ultra-flagship, priced above the ProMax. Later rumors seem to contradict that, indicating it will replace the Plus in the lineup and be similarly priced.

Personally, the Air sounds like exactly what I want: larger screen, ProMotion, lower weight/heft. I would've gotten the Plus by now if it had ProMotion, but I simply won't go back to 60Hz after using a phone with ProMotion for two and a half years now.
