I thought I’d give the TechWoven a go for a couple of days since it’s been collecting dust for a bit. While I like the hand feel, form factor, buttons, and lack of fingerprints, this case provides only slightly more than scratch protection. Just the slightest pressure on either of the upper corners above the plateau easily pushes the case off the phone. Face down drops, particularly on one of these corners, would not end well. Nice case otherwise.

The Spigen Urban Fit is next. Right off the bat it has a much more secure fit on the phone. It’s also grippier.

Yep I agree. I don’t consider the TW a case for drop protection. It does feel great in the hand though. No finger prints, no smudges, doesn’t scratch or doesn’t scratch easily.

For me that’s where the Sheath steps in. No finger prints, no smudges, doesn’t scratch or doesn’t scratch easily AND just as important drop protection compared to the TW.

If the TW had drop protection like the Sheath, then I’d be all in on the TW.

Crap, I just ordered one of these 🙁 My luck, I'll probably get the same defective crap.
Are they shipping you a new one from China? Do you have to send this one back?
My initial order was shipped via YunExpress from Hong Kong, the replacement will probably be the same. They are having me send the defective case back as well. Support also told me they would be opening the packaging and sending me a video of the replacement's condition before shipping, which is a bit odd, but I guess it's to help guarantee the replacement isn't just messed up again.

Fingers crossed you get a good copy. Most of the newer designs aren't on Amazon unfortunately so you're forced to order directly from Pitaka. I'm probably going to avoid ordering direct going forward if I can help it as the return process was more annoying than it was worth.

What was the last case you dropped a phone in and the case came off?

My answer is SHEATH lol

You did the right thing to push back. Some of these companies talk about “precision” and “perfection” in their marketing, yet they ship imprecise and imperfect products then gaslight the customer in an attempt to avoid a return. It’s not OK.

This is by no means unique to Pitaka (looking at you Caudabe)…
They absolutely do it knowing some customers won't push back on it. Way better to order on Amazon when possible for the hassle-free returns.

Their reply also tried to emphasize how the issue isn't going to affect the drop protection and usability, which although true, seriously misses the point of these cases. If I really wanted protection, I wouldn't have gone with one of the thinnest cases on the market..

All this pitaka talk got me itching

How long did it take to actually receive?

Beats rugged in black, does the color of the phone show through along the display edges?

My orange is peeking through on this new black one, I don't remember this on the first one.

Those are usually warped around the CC button.

Tried that case out twice, in the regular black and the sunset and both times the CC button area was warped. Someone else here mentioned the same thing with theirs also.

Totally unacceptable for a $80 case but at $25 maybe it won’t bother you too much or you might just end up getting a good one which seems highly unlikely with those.

Low key I’ll probably put it on for an hour and then go back to my phonerebel.

I would also consider any claims about protection in the same manner. If mishaps were predictable, and logical, safety industries would have gone out of business long ago, and some lawyers would have to find billable hours elsewhere.

No production line has output that is 100% free of defects. But like retail shrinkage, the industry accepts that and deals with it in a manner that is most practical and cost effective.

The truth of the matter is that production lines in China spit out thousands upon thousands of accessories like this, and not all of them will be caught before shipping, or noticed by users who aren't OCD about their cases. At the end of the day, it's just an injection molded piece of plastic that is embellished with some trim or ornamentation.

If a defective unit prompts complaint, these brands can still profit even after shipping a replacement because that $80 paid covered the startup tooling, marketing and overhead for something that costs a few dollars, if that, to make. The brand then gets praise for their customer service, and business rolls right along.

Same applies to the $40 screen protectors, which are even easier to pass off because the differences are fewer, and harder to discern, and they are even more likely to be white label products with value added by strong marketing campaigns, including social media.

Apple doesn't bother with business segments that it doesn't consider worthwhile, or significant to such a large company. The fact that it is engaged in the case business is tacit acknowledgment that is can be a good business, to the degree that they want in on it as well.

Welp, my uag pathfinder clear case started falling apart lol. On the bottom right corner by the camera button, the glue between the back plate and the side frame started coming apart. Now that whole corner is just done.

I filed a warranty claim via their website, bit annoying that they make you take a bunch of pictures with a number on a piece of paper, but they approved it really quickly and are mailing out a new replacement. So the customer service is good at least.

Still. MEhhhhhh. I know why people don't like those now lol.
