I'm thinking about installing a screen protector.

I need to know if the TORRAS OrigArmor 3D Screen Protector (US $34.99 on Amazon for 1) for an iPhone 17 Pro will have a problem with my current normal Caudabe Sheath Precise or the dBrand Tank cases? I understand from this thread that there have been issues with scratches on the Torras, but it is easier to get it installed properly.

I usually don't bother with screen protectors, but I have developed some nerve issues that cause me to drop things more than previously.

Still no scratches? O: If so, do you reckon the Origarmor is a safe buy now? Have they actually changed something?
Pinging @DesertSilver as well
I have some very small scratches now I think that’s to be expected.

My phone is used, not babied.

I’d take a few scratches (can’t be seen when screen is on anyway) considering the fit of these OA is perfect, bordered don’t cut into the screen and the edges are rounded.

True. I would also be down for that kind of arrangement, but I have the base 17. It would probably be dumb to risk it, but I'm not sure :\ I won't be able to get any replacements, so at this point, am I not better off going for FloLab? They've recently changed their policy and only allow one replacement, but that would be better than Torras's 0, since I'll be voiding the warranty by applying their protector on a base.

Any insight @herothezero90 ? 😭🙏

3 months later I have a bunch of micro scratches but only visible under certain angle in bright environment. I don't notice any when using the phone, but I did just now staring at locked phone from different angles. I don't understand why they don't market this for Pro and base 17 because it fits perfectly in the Pro tray and the protector fits perfectly on the phone. And no issues on 7+ different cases I tried. I haven't tried Flolabs 3D for 17 so I don't know how it compares but maybe it's a better option in case you'll need a replacement.

Thanks!

Well, it has been confirmed that the dimensions of the Pro and base are different, as @Citizen45 mentioned here. Maybe, for one reason or another, the base ends up fairly centered in the tray, so it comes out perfectly aligned regardless. Or, maybe your phone was slightly misaligned while in the tray, which incidentally resulted in the protector being applied perfectly?

After all, we (or at least I) haven't seen many testimonies of base 17 owners reporting perfectly aligned Origarmor on their base (I went over the last 19 pages of this post and can't recall anyone else besides you, though I might be forgetting someone).

Meh. I think I'll just take my chances with the Origarmor and that's it. Surely there must be a way to finesse replacements despite voiding the warranty by applying it to the base model. @developeren you mentioned here that Torras asks for a photo whenever you make a warranty claim, but are you actually required to snap a photo of the back of the phone as well? Maybe we can get away with just showing the front. 😭 Honestly, it only seems fair; if the warranty claim is made due to a damaged protector and not misalignment, the fact that it was applied to a base iPhone model shouldn't matter. Then again, I know it's too much to expect common sense and decency from companies nowadays.

Is there any consensus about the Origarmor Lite over the Origarmor? Both are available on Amazon for the 17PM and I’ve had the original Origarmor so far but I need a new one for when my AC iPhone replacement arrives.

BELKIN Invisiglass. Put on in the Apple Store
With a machine It’s perfectly aligned and the screen protector is strong doesn’t show nail scratches etc. costs a little more but you get what you pay for

I’d rather do it myself. I’ve seen them do it in store and some of those employees are not very careful with the phone or the process.

I've never had a problem, and I'm picky. Some employees are better than others, but IMO, I find they are very accomodating. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it yourself, so don't take what I'm saying as negative.

After a waist height drop the flolab protector I had broke. I had the infinity edge (not-3D) model.

Can't decide if I'm disappointed in the case transferring enough of a load to the screen protector to shatter it, or the screen protector shattering that easily. To be fair, the top layer of the screen protector is extremely thin and exposed on the edges (creating the lip that dust hides under).

Either way, since mine was a 'free' review unit, there's no replacements lol. I'm sitting here debating whether it's worth spending another $50. It was REALLY REALLY NICE in terms of anti-reflection material. Feel is whatever. Durability is whatever. But I never had any scratches on mine.

I think the real reason to keep using a screen protector isn't to protect the screen from cracks/drops since that almost never happens anyway, but to keep it from getting scratched. On my old iphone 13 especially, it got a ton of micro scratches around the edges, and I don't want that happening again!

I have to say I’m not a fan of the Lite version of the OrigArmor. The coverage is nowhere near as good as their non-Lite version and the edges are rough. Im going back to the non-Lite.
I’m impressed with the toughness of the screen on this 17PM. I took off the screen protector about a week ago as I await my AC replacement and it’s showing no signs of wear. Very solid!

Just installed my third Torras. No spare left now fingers crossed this will last till September.

Pics of the one I uninstalled. Scratches everywhere.

No top cut out on Newer version. Pretty good edge to edge coverage.

And I see L’s.

when did you get the spare? Might wanna try Torras again with the no notch cutout, but waiting on your confirm whether it still scratches easily?

Back in January from Amazon UK. Going to use it normally and will see how long it lasts.

So the new torras origarmor 3d edge (not the lite version) now has no speaker notch? How do you know which one you are getting from Amazon?! Is there enough gap to allot the speaker to be open?

I just took off my original torras from the fall and put in the Flolab 3d edge. The torras was getting scratched up. Several came out of the box scratched. The flolabs has slightly thicker borders and goes slightly less to the edge so it cuts of a tiny bit. I can still see the “L” on the test image but if you turn the phone slightly they do disappear.

Will use this for a it and decide if I like it or will put on another torras. I still have a spare of the notched version.

Main issue for me is if it gets dust and lint stuck to its edges. The torras did not.

F it, I give up on these lol.

After the flolab broke, I used one of my spare unbreakcable ones I had laying around and I just had to take it off. I am tired today and my eyes aren't working as well, and I realized there's this rainbow effect the unbreakcable protector causes that makes me feel very nauseous.

The torras protector makes no sense to me. Avoiding microscratches is exactly why I wanted a screen protector in the first place because my 13 got a lot of them around the edges of the screen. To be fair, I didn't use a case with my 13! I get that the Torras still keeps the scratches off the phone, but if your protector is all ugly and annoying to use, what's the point?

Also IMHO the (non-3d) flolab is too thick and heavy. And at $50 too damn expensive.

Looking for a matte screen protector with black borders that’s truly edge-to-edge (like a Torras Origarmor), does not intrude into the screen, and does not collect dust and lint on the borders. Does such a thing exist?

I have to admit, as much I hate how the ESR Corning screen protector’s black borders cut into the edge of the screen and cover up some pixels, it has better scratch protection than the Torras OrigArmor and hasn’t shattered yet from the many times I have dropped it compared to the Torras OrigArmor when I dropped it and it shattered. I’m still on the 2nd screen protector and the replacement Torras OrigArmor is still sitting in the box.
