iPhone storage (the 128GB → 256GB base upgrade on the 17e) uses NAND flash memory. This is persistent storage for apps, photos, videos, etc

But DDR memory refers to DRAM (including LPDDR variants in phones for system RAM/working memory, and DDR5 in servers). The iPhone 17e doesn’t change its RAM amount here. it’s still 8GB LPDDR.

Last year I thought Apple did well. This year it looks a little lazy. It still has a better processor than the Pixel 10a but for $100 less Google still managed to cram in a 0.5x lens with macro, flush cameras, USB 3.0 (capable of recording straight to an external SSD in 4K RAW like the Pro iPhones.....), video-out, 120hz, punch-hole camera and a 5000mah battery.
Of course, Google in a couple of years will release an update that will cripple the battery.

DDR memory is RAM, flash storage (which, admittedly, is also going price-nuts lately) is what they increased.
Kind of strange writing articles when they know not what it is, or care to google when they don't.
Especially since the site is all about leaks and rumours, they'd want some credibility right?

But you would have to pay me more than $100 to use Android.
See, I think many people were burned by Ansroid devices over a decade ago (when they were genuinely cobbled together) and it has tarnished their view of the platform ever since. These days Google and Samsung both have a very clear level of corporate design about their default apps that provides a cohesive design throughout. You'll generally find more creative camera options, with Pro models including manual overrides which Apple apparently still doesn't trust its target market of professionals to manage themselves. Even if you dislike LLMs, the AI image editing options with things like object removal and rotational fill is night and day.

I completely understand how people might object to using Google apps and services but on Samsung you can avoid all that by using their own services or even using Microsoft to manage and sync your entire backend. I'm perhaps a little bias as I don't like the idea of an ecosystem in case I get locked out of and banned from my sole account. Look at that gift card fiasco before xmas. Google still profile you for ads based on device ID without even opening an account with them which are easily blocked with ABP. Apple collect just as much data; they just use it to sell me a new iPhone instead of a lawnmower.

One isn't better than the other but on Android you have a much greater range of handsets at a much greater range of prices. Once you see Motorola stuffing a 7000mah battery into an £89 phone or Honor giving you 120hz at £300 you kind of see how Apple likes to nickel-and-dime its way around pretty basic stuff.

The same Price as the 16e, but 256GB storage. That's a possibility I might upgrade to this one, but I am not entirely decided just yet. I don't understand this perception of it being a "kids" phone, in no way, shape, or form is this a "kids" phone.

It's the least expensive new option, thus some see it as the one they'd get for their kids.

(not my view, just what I assume folks are saying)

A lot of the kids I know of end up getting hand me down mainline & Pro phones from parents.

Anyone else being unable to load the website?
It’s also not advertised in every country, at least in Germany it’s not in the online store yet.

Today they showed the iPad Air and iPhone 17e, with only minor changes to the processors and Wi-Fi (which 95% users won't use anyway because they don't have Wi-Fi 7 routers). Tomorrow they'll show the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and Max, which, aside from the processors, will remain unchanged. And on Wednesday, they'll show the new budget MacBook, which will attract the most attention. Apple is so innovative that they haven't even changed the wallpapers and packaging on the new devices. Why didn't they? They have plenty of stock from the previous version. Yawn.

It amazes me folks think they are getting phones "for free" from carriers, while they are wildly overpaying for the monthly service plans to get those "free" phones.
It might be, but certain carriers seem to believe that their customers are stupid or are inexplicably attached to them. When I bought a Pixel 8a in one of these offers, a year and half ago, my new monthly fee was lower than the one I was leaving, with more data and a new phone. I must admit I thought: there must be a catch (maybe the company is desperate and about to fail, maybe the coverage is rubbish). There was no catch. Vodafone tried to lure me back with a laughable offer when it was too late.

So today has been iPad Air and iPhone SE updates. Is tomorrow the MacBooks, what does that leave for Wednesday? Homepod updates maybe an Apple TV update.
I hope so. I really would like an AppleTV with HDMI PCM pass-through and or a SPIDIF output AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, unlocking HQ Lossless option for the ATV and Music so you can send that to an external DAC.

they need the little updates year over year. They need to differentiate the devices too. Like a car manufacturers do with cars, you want the other feature? well, pay more $$ and get the advanced version.
