This new Pixel Fold just doesn't have the price incentives that Samsung has so if I were going for one of these I'd pick the Z Fold for sure.
The thing is you get a year of Google AI Pro with the Pixel and just 6 months with the Samsung. Gemini is also more tightly integrated on the Pixel and Material 3 Expressive looks gorgeous compared to One UI 8.

The only thing Samsung has going for it is that the hardware on the Fold 7 is far superior to the Pixel and their incentives are better. The Pixel is the better AI and software phone

It'll look more like this, which is (probably) the most accurate and detailed render so far, showing the layout of the new antenna system. Perhaps an acquired taste, but the design is really growing on me.

Sorry but that is ugly as sin. Colour doesn't help to be fair. I have ordered the pixel 10 pro xl to be fair. Pixel software is way ahead of iOS imo. (I tried ios26 beta before selling my iPhone 16 pro)

Vastly superior than iPhones currently I have to say. My colleague pixel 9 suns circles around my emoji generator 16 pro.

I’m just deep into the ecosystem with HomeKit devices and all, but I’m so ready to jump ship and get real software….

Yeah, no. Try recording high bit rate 4K HDR on your Pixel 9. Oh wait, you can’t. Frame rate drops in HDR.

The 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable that I'm genuinely jealous of. IP68 in a foldable is a massive deal.

Get rid of some weight and the crease and you'd have a nearly perfect device.

Picked up a Pixel 7 Pro as a second phone about 3 years ago. The battery gave me trouble early on, and after a few rounds of arguing with the operator, they finally swapped it for a new one. The phone is nice overall, but those initial issues pushed me to choose Sony instead. Gave the replacement Pixel to my son and he’s still using it today—camera is solid, and the night shots often look better than what I get from my 15 Pro Max.

Hoping Apple brings something competitive with the iPhone 17 series. Not that I’m planning to buy one, but it’d be nice to see them bounce back after the whole Apple Intelligence mess.

Apple won’t bounce back with Siri, they need to start over which is way too late now

Ah, thanks for point that out and that does affect the equation. I thought that Gemini integration with Gmail/Google Calendar was available on any capable Android phone.

My emoji generator often can’t even recognize a phone number in a text message, so you have to memorize it and write it down to send a message to that person, that’s the level.

I traded in my Pixel 7 Pro back in April (to T-Mobile) and they gave me $500 in trade-in credit:

I try to take most of my travel pictures using a Pixel phone because I have a $15/m plan (thru T-Mobile) that includes both Google One & unlimited photo backup (for Google Photos)

I’ve been waiting for a good deal on a newer Pixel to come around and just bought the 10 Pro (to replace my old 7 Pro) for a net cost of $575 (after the two $200 promotions & Google One 10% credit) and was able to pay via Klarna too - which now let’s u pay with credit card (for CC💳 rewards pts)

That’s cheaper than the deals that I previously looked at on a Pixel 9 Pro so Google has some good promos this year

That’s fair enough. I tried the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Galaxy Z Flip7 recently. Impressive phones, but I’m unfortunately far too entrenched in Apple’s services to ever escape them.

I found it particularly hard to find a good enough alternative to iCloud, especially iCloud Photos, despite its flaws. Google Photos came close, but I just love the experience of iCloud Photos across devices and even on iCloud.com.

I hated the look of the iPhone 17 Pro for a long time, but it’s become less of an eyesore to me the more I’ve seen it (and the better the renders have become).

Ultimately, it’s just a phone and I don’t care that much how it looks as long as it provides the experience I’m after. I personally think the Pixel phones are really ugly, but each to their own!

That's fair mate. I will say photos is one thing apple does better as you can download all your photos to your device in the settings menu. Why it's in another app is another thing...

Funny I don’t have that issue.

Meanwhile I’ve used the 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max as secondary video recorders (along with my Nikon Z9) and they absolutely obliterate Pixel devices. And I don’t have to upload to Google services so their Video Boost can process the video my iPhones can do on-device.

Pixel processors are trash. Yet people still make excuses that they’re “good enough”. Wait until you’ve had the phone 5 years running the latest version of Android slow as molasses.

I'm not going to switch, but it's becoming my yearly tradition of seeing features that look genuinely useful at Google's summer event while being thoroughly underwhelmed by Apple.

A lot of the AI features are neither here nor there, but Magic Cue looks like the sort of thing that is genuinely useful. The same was true for Magic Eraser and the call screening and their computational photography features before. Increasingly when I'm looking forward to an iOS feature, I have seen it on Android before.

For the record I'm not saying Apple isn't bringing anything new to the table, their satellite emergency stuff is great if you need it, but I'm just missing all the other quality of life features that are possible on a smart phone. Instead Apple brings new emoticons and the stuff Google has done years ago.

It is barely a competition for the iPhone I think; maybe a competition for the other Android phones.

It is very difficult to make the switch from one ecosystem to the other. Not only will one lose a lot of money in doing so, given how trade in values are (especially if you have the Watch Ultra 2 with your iPhone), but they’ll also lose a lot of convenience if everyone else around them is using one vs the other. It’s just not worth it IMHO to make the switch either way as I’ve got a busy life to live and this isn’t another headache I’m willing to deal with. And I haven’t even considered the money I’ve paid for certain apps on my phone.

Apple users will continue with Apple. Android will continue to use Android. If phone makers truly want to gain users from the other side, they need to offer far better deals. The current ones do not even come close for an ecosystem switch.
