If you think this will be expensive, i wonder what the foldable phone will cost. I will totally not buy a new Ipad this year, and will not upgrade my Iphone if prices increase.

“IDC thinks an ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ price increase won't impact the number of people upgrading, because consumers with an iPhone 15 (non-Pro) or older are likely to want to buy a new iPhone to get Siri AI.”

While I’m sure a good number of people fall into this category, I don’t think there are nearly as many as the “experts” think. I have Siri and AI turned off on all of my devices and I know quite a few others who do the same thing. No one was asking for AI. This is something Wall Street wanted and is being rammed down our throats. Many welcome it. Many do not. But there is no disputing the fact that AI is making everybody's life more complicated — and more expensive. Right now, I’m trying to decide whether to hold on to my current phone long-term (as in, until it is no longer supported by Apple) or trade it in now to beat the price increases and keep the new phone until it is no longer supported.

I get it. Insanely massive seven-figure salary—you do it for a year until they go bankrupt, then head back to Apple. 😂

EDIT: weird... some kinda glitch here... this was meant for a different forum/post...

I will use my current iPhone until it breaks and then I will buy a used iPhone or the cheapest iPhone available to replace it.

I will not be buying any Apple products at these prices. I won't buy competing products either. I just won't buy anything.

No one should. Screw these companies, No one wants your CRAP AI BULL****. Shove it up your ***.

so it will be 1450-1500€ ... maybe even more... not paying that much as it won't bring anything significant over 17 Pro

I pulled the trigger on US-spec 17 Pro for 1130€ today ... I can enjoy larger battery and don't have to worry about SIM hole rubber gasket

Last years 17 Pro has increased price by 100 euros for 256 GB as new basic model for 1339 euros, now another price increase?
sorry but i wont support that, resale value of iPhone 16 Pro after year was 739 euros in Apple Premium Partner shop....

each year iPhone resale value has dropped more and more

Sure want to raise price just to be closer to foldable. Optics of $1000 price difference wont get people to just pay ‘just a little more’ for the foldable.

Due to carrier financing I don't see the iPhone price increases slowing it down as much as other products. It's all about those monthly payments. Maybe the carriers will increase the terms to 36 months to get people to upgrade. But even at $200 extra over 24 months it's not a big enough difference to deter most.

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro models could be up to $200 more expensive, according to a prediction from analytics firm IDC.

Dynamic-Island-iPhone-18-Pro-Feature.jpg

IDC expected Apple to raise iPhone 18 prices, but prior to yesterday's Mac and iPad price hike, the prediction was a $100 increase for the 18 Pro and Pro Max, and a $50 increase for the base models.

IDC Senior Director of Data & Analytics Nabila Popal says the magnitude of the Mac and iPad price increase points to even higher iPhone 18 prices.

Apple also plans to release a foldable iPhone this year, and IDC thinks it could have an average selling price of $2,500, with higher storage tiers to cost as much as $3,000. The price of the premium model could offset some of the increased memory costs and avoid a larger price hike to other models.

Apple increased prices because component costs have gone up as a result of a global memory crisis limiting supply. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to have 12GB RAM, so looking to other devices with 12GB RAM could hint at Apple's iPhone pricing plans. The M4 iPad Air and lower-tier M5 iPad Pro have 12GB RAM, with prices going up $150 and $200, respectively.

It's possible the iPhone 18 Pro models will see similar increases in price, raising the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro to between $1,249 and $1,299 and the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max to between $1,349 and $1,399.

IDC thinks an iPhone 18 Pro price increase won't impact the number of people upgrading, because consumers with an iPhone 15 (non-Pro) or older are likely to want to buy a new iPhone to get Siri AI. The firm estimates that 54 percent of iPhones shipped since 2022 need to be upgraded to get the new Siri. Customers who choose a Pro Max are also "premium-focused and less price sensitive" and so won't be dissuaded by a price increase, plus many customers opt for monthly payment plans. A $200 increase to the iPhone 18 Pro price over 36 months is just about $5 per month.

No Siri AI in Europe, and Tim in need to keep shareholders happy translates into a hard pass for me, thanks.

I love predictions, not sure why but it might be the insight into what some want me to believe. In this case I'm not sure what the impact will be, if apple acted in isolation maybe doom, but if all smart phone makers suffer the same cost rise then the lower priced smart phones makers memory costs are the same as apple's, then the lower cost phones increase in price faster. if the average user only needs a basic phone then happy days for basic phones and gloomy days for smart phone makers - who knows, me I buy when equipment fails (I view AI as a card catalogue linked into a predetermined number of sources without references which will keep me from digging deeper and thus viewable as a single source of unknown veracity). good day and good luck with this

That’s what Apple banking on. ‘It’s just a cup of coffee a month’ increase.
