iPhone Error 1603

OK I need ideas..

Trying to update from work on a XP PC.

Downloaded itunes 7.7 installed it.

Downloaded 2.0 update from link.

Shift click to update and selected file.

5 mins into update errored out with code "1603"

Restored and backed up phone to 1.14 software.. all back to normal.

Re-downloaded update, restarted itunes, restarted phone, error 1603 again.

I have done this three times now with the same results. Any thoughts...

I got that error once. I tried everything. I finally called the iPhone Support number. The Apple guy on the phone had me completely uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it. Something about a corrupted file in the Mobile Sync services...
Good Luck

Steve

Apple must be wasting a lot of bandwidth on multiple downloads of this 225 MB file.

I couldn't get it to work at first. I had to pull the zip file from the trash and remove the .zip extension to get it to work.

Mobile Software update download?

Is the MobileMe software update available as a download? I am at work and behind a firewall and only have access to Http / https content.

thanks!

tested out remote wipe...worked nice..took like 10 minutes, but worked...

strange that it took so long, even though the device was already freshly wiped....

I've missed the requirements/procedures for this. Where can I find all of the info?

while it looks like you can only have one exchange account i just added my .mac account and i was give the option of syncing calendar and contacts from my .mac. As a result I ended up with 2 calendars and 2 contacts. .mac and exchange.
I wonder if we can have multiple mobileme accounts and sync them with exchange and hence have multiple calendars/contacts ?

It will allow as many MobileMe accounts as you want, but only one can be Push enabled.

How do you do this through iTunes? I clicked search for updates, and it said that 1.4 was the newest version.

Hold the option key while clicking update, it'll open a finder window for you to find the file that you downloaded containing iPhone 2.0. It'll run the update and then install itself on your iPhone. Good luck and be patient because it can take a while...

Doesnt work

I tried about 4 times and it keeps getting stuck on the"preparing iPhone for software update" and than I have to restore my phone

I got 2.0 installed and everything works great. When I re-docked my iPhone it started making a backup of the iPhone again. I cancelled it...

Is it backing it up because it plans to restore it to 1.1.4? Or is this just a post-successful restore backup??

Has anyone noticed the price of the apps go from free to 9.99?

There's a number of them that are more expensive than that - check the References link - $30 for a dictionary and thesaurus - seems a bit much since you can get all that for free just typing dictionary.com. Maybe Apple should put their dictionary/thesaurus on there...

Working

WAit no. Its working. It took a LONG time until it got of the "preparing for iPhone software update" part. Its installing now
:)

Going Back to 1.1.4

Anyone tried going back to their 1.1.4 software yet after this? I was wondering if you can go back and Jailbreak your phone back to 1.1.4 after installing the newer 2.0 software. My guess is probably not since there is most likely a newer baseband installed. Loving the new Apps and such, but will need my iPhone to be unlocked when I go to Spain in December so I can use local pre-paid cards instead of the outrageous AT&T international rates.

Hey guys,

I had a 1.1.4 ZiPhone Jailbroken phone (not unlocked...some people don't seen to know the difference) and I downloaded the new firmware. It automatically unzipped so I rezipped it, renamed to .ipsw and now I have "iPhone1,2_2.ipsw" that is 225 mb as it should be. Then I tried to install it on my jailbroken phone, no success. I restored to a jailed 1.1.4 and tried again. Now I get "This iPhone could not be restored error code (1)".

Any ideas?

fetch the original ipsw out of the trash, rename it to take the .zip off, and use that.

Except that the 2.0 s/w on the EDGE iPhone can make you want 3G. The apps that rely on an Internet connection are pretty slow w/ EDGE. I wasn't planning on upgrading but after using 2.0 now for just a few minutes I realize I might have to or go nuts. So releasing 2.0 early could be a clever little trojan horse to get convince the EDGE iPhone holdouts to go ahead an upgrade. I won't be doing it tomorrow, but possible sooner rather than later.

Not so here, I've already IM'd and Twittered on the iPhone and it's awesome!:D:p

Shazam and Pandora are incredible - I kinda just stumbled upon Shazam but already I've used it in the car successfully, I love this thing.

That would bring me to my next question.

Why isn't there an Applications selection on the left hand side of my iTunes. I'm on the mac, in the us, and have successfully updated both iPhone to 2.0 and iTunes to 7.7..

Any help ?

I just did the update. Downloaded the file with Firefox because i was having a problem with Safari (it was unzipping the file) and everything worked smoothly. It didnt take that long for me and i was able to backup in iTunes. Currently i am syncing and getting all my data back.

Did it fix the problem?

I had to restore from the 2.0 firmware because I made the mistake of trying to update to it from iTunes 7.6. Working great now that I updated to iTunes 7.7.

Connected to the work Exchange server no problem. I'll try the 802.1x once I get into the office.

Wishing re-syncing all my music was faster.
