I just did the update. Downloaded the file with Firefox because i was having a problem with Safari (it was unzipping the file) and everything worked smoothly. It didnt take that long for me and i was able to backup in iTunes. Currently i am syncing and getting all my data back.

There is a preference in Safari in the 'Preferences' menu to 'open safe files once downloaded' if you have this selected then it will extract any zips, etc once you have downloaded them

Right...

I have been reading this thred all day at work (uk), it was mentioned a while back that people on an O2 contract (non-iphone) were able to enter there itunes login to activate after doing a upgrade to 2.0?
and where then able to use their iphone, then a conflicting poster said that this did not work.

I am on a simplicity contract, running 1.4.

Could anyone confirm that this actually worked for them? so i dont spend the rest of my eveing recovering back to 1.4..

Many thanks in advance.

That would bring me to my next question.

Why isn't there an Applications selection on the left hand side of my iTunes. I'm on the mac, in the us, and have successfully updated both iPhone to 2.0 and iTunes to 7.7..

Any help ?

You have to first download an app from the app store. Then it should show

Stability?

Anyone else feel like 2.0 is less stable than 1.1.4? My phone has randomly restarted about a half-dozen times after installing this upset and the GUI seems less responsive than before the update as well.

Don't you know the routine by now? We optimize *after we ship*! :D

Most definately.... switching between my nicely rearranged apps its frozen far too many a time.

A little dissappointed. Still demanding cut & paste as well as someone to bother with an msn client app.

Hmmm. I am five minutes away from installing 2.0 early unless I hear someone agree with this...

Possibly because you downloaded an unofficial release under the assumption that this is the final release??

need help

so, i did the firmware update this morning and i backed up all my contacts, but after i installed the update all my contacts were gone. there is a backup file on my computer, i was wondering if anyone knew how to view the .mdbackup files.

I had a REALLY old backup. So at least I have some of my numbers.

2.0 is incredible. Monkey balls is awesome. Facebook and AIM apps are both great too.

I'm loving it.

Almost time to start queuing for the 3G!

JailBreak or Unlock iPhone 2.0 Firmware?

Hi, has any one be able to unlock or jailbreak the iphone with 2.0 firmware??

I really need some help here I download and installed de 2.0 firmware, but is asking for me to activate the phone! What should I do since I'm not using any of those operators supported by the regular iPhone?

Is there any software out there that will do the job? Tks

For those of you stuck in an infinite loop of restore mode and Error 20's, here's the fix:

-Reboot
-Attach the phone and open iTunes
-When you get the message telling you that you're in restore mode, and it forces you to restore(you will see update is grayed out)
-Hold down option while you click restore, then select the 2.0 software you downloaded. It took me 40 minutes to restore from it, but i'm back to normal now.

error -4960

Hi,

Is there anyone having trouble installing the iTunes 7.7 like me? I downloaded the iTunes.dmg file but can’t seem to get it extracting. I want to install 2.0 on my iPhone so bad!

I keep getting error -4960.

Warning
The following disk images failed to mount
Image: iTunes.dmg
Reason: error -4960

I googled the error but it seems to be fairly unknown. So could not find anything on it.

The file size is 48,3 MB, but when I downloaded it a second time it was 48,4 MB, which I think is a bit strange.

Don’t want to download it a third time or through software update, because here in South Africa Internet is quite expensive and I want to use the file on some other Macs as well.

Thanks,

Hope I can soon start updating my jailbroken and unlocked iPhone! And see if it does not turn in to a brick!

For anyone having problems

For anyone having problems let me tell you what I did and how I got this to work.

Setup:
MBP
Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.2
Firefox 3.0
iTunes 7.7
Unlocked ziphone iphone software version 1.1.4

Just download the file, In itunes under the device pane hold down option and then check for updates, select the file you just downloaded, It will load up your all good to go.

Also note it shouldn't matter if your phone is unlocked or not but it does matter that your using firefox, if you dont have firefox download it now

Also if you wish for applications to be displayed in itunes just go to preferences and check applications

PS The app store is probably the greatest thing all of time I LOVE APPLE AND IPHONES I WISH I COULD MARRY YOU

No wait....before restore back 1.1.4...try to insert the original AT&T SIM card. Maybe you'll be able to activate the iPhone too (and then you'll be alble to use O2 too)....just try and let us know.

This doesn't work. I got stuck with error 20 after I did the firmware 2.0 restore and put 2.0 into DFU mode but couldn't restore back to firmware 1.1.4 that I had downloaded.

I thought I was stuck in DFU mode in 2.0, so I restored back to 2.0 again (it seemed to take a lot longer this time). Now, I've put the AT&T SIM in, but it wants more than just a username and password. Putting the O2 SIM I have in gives me the 'SIM not supported' problem in iTunes.

Maybe I'll try and restore back to 1.1.4 now.

What am I doing wrong that the others on this forum that have a non iPhone O2 SIM aren't?

UPDATE: Tried updating back to 1.1.4 - error '20' in iTunes. Back to being screwed again. Why is my O2 SIM not working?!??!!!!
