3G or GPS, the only real enhancements to the new phone.

Why does everyone forget that the 3G iPhone also features a better speaker and mic along with better battery life? Those are 2 features that fairly important. Look at how much complaining there was about the speaker on the original iPhone.

I give up trying to install it

Downloaded it on my Mac and got rid of the .zip and still just get the iTunes program to come up with nothing happening

Downloaded it on my PC and same thing. I try to install it and nothing. Nothing happens

Ppl who have installed 2.0: Does the ITunes restore back up your SMS Messages? I'm hesitating out of fear of losing my test messages.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere, but maybe I missed in the almost 600 posts!
You can take a screenshot of any screen on the iPhone by briefly holding the top button and the home button. The screen "blinks" for a second and then the image shows up in your camera roll.

Nice for documenting how to setup something!

Nabby

Is that new feature from 2.0? Or is it an old one I didn't know about? Either way that's a cool little feature for screen savers!

It doesn't say that. All it says is it'll be released THURSDAY. It wasn't a quote from Jobs or anything like that.

It said they had a phone interview with steve jobs.... they are not going to put the wrong release date. they obviously asked him

p.s. MOBILE ME IS ONLINE

I did the same thing. Installed iPhone 2 from my mac at work and thought that it would back-up and restore for me... all my text messages and notes are on my macbook at home, do you think I'll be able to restore and get them all back? I'd hate to hit "Restore" and some issue with restoring settings from version 1 to a version 2 phone screw it all up...

I have had no issues since restoring after the upgrade to v2.

that source was time crunch a BAD SOURCE.
Now, I have offical word STRAIGHT from STEVE JOBS!

No you do not. Wanting something to mean something, and claiming that it specifically states something are two different things. Settle down, and be patient. The article talks about the app store, not the release of 2.0

2.0 Working on iPhone

So far, update went smoothly, but as other's posted, takes a long time (approx half an hour). I had nearly 1 GB of space remaining on my iPhone prior to the firmware update, and am expecting for the inital sync after the update (to place new apps, songs, etc.) to be another 30 minutes.

iphone 2.0 exchange contact sync

Has anyone else tried to setup and sync with an Exchange server. For some reason contacts are not syncing unless I make a change to the contact then it will sync that contact. Existing contacts do not sync. Calendar and mail are syncing fine ??

That is, unless you're using 3G. Then it sucks power like a Catholic school girl hoover.

Star Wars fans?

So I'm watching the system log on my MBP during the 2.0 update and I see this:

Jul 10 12:32:15 gentoo [0x0-0xfa5fa5].com.apple.iTunes[44352]: MobileDevice: AMDeviceConnect: This is not the droid you're looking for. Move along, move along.
Jul 10 12:37:59 gentoo ntpd[43006]: time reset +0.170821 s

If the average iPhone 1 user were to update today, they would see the App store, push email, and all of the other enhancements, and quickly realize that maybe they don't need 3G or GPS, the only real enhancements to the new phone. They might then cancel their plans to line-up tomorrow.

Except that the 2.0 s/w on the EDGE iPhone can make you want 3G. The apps that rely on an Internet connection are pretty slow w/ EDGE. I wasn't planning on upgrading but after using 2.0 now for just a few minutes I realize I might have to or go nuts. So releasing 2.0 early could be a clever little trojan horse to get convince the EDGE iPhone holdouts to go ahead an upgrade. I won't be doing it tomorrow, but possible sooner rather than later.

The speaker is the main reason I want to check out the iPhone 3G. I miss way too many calls on the iPhone because I just don't hear the ringer. I think the ring volume should be controlled separately from the rest of the volume and there should be an option to ring on the speaker even when you have headphones plugged in.

I've forgotten to unplug the earbuds while my iPhone was charging and not heard it ring as a result. I've trained myself now but unplugging and plugging in the earbuds all the time has shredded the gasket so the non-recessed jack is also welcome.

It's the phone functions of the iPhone where I find it failing.

Trying the 2.0 firmware now. Hoping it means I can use the 802.1x WiFi network at work.

Update: Make sure you have iTunes 7.7, not 7.6, before trying this.

My thinking exactly.

Hopefully the Apps that I'm interested in won't rely too heavily on EDGE. Thankfully I'm in a wifi network 95% of the time.
