I installed this update to my iPhone this morning and it has been working great, but for some reason, the update added the app "Contacts" to my iPhone. That usually is only for the iPod Touch (because of the lack of Phone capabilities).

Is this normal?

Same happened to me except none of my data is synced with the phone. That, and my visual voicemail doesn't work.

Is AIM supposed to be working?....or do i have to wait until this update is officially released?

AIM.ipa is working fine for me. Everything is where it should be and I'm able to send/receive IMs.

That's odd. All of my data/content synced and my visual voicemail is where it should be. You might need to re-enter your voicemail password.

anyone figure out how to set up the control application with their itunes library yet? I cant find the devices list in itunes!???

let me know if you figure out where to go to type in that little passcode! thnx!

2.0 Fixed all the problems I was having with my car's Alpine iPod deck. (Base cut out at high volumes, iPhone forgetting where I was last time I was in the car, shuffle reverted to alphabetical song listing after first song, hitting back now goes to the beginning of the song instead of the previous song...)

That and the AppleTV remote make 2.0 well worth the update:)

update

If I upgrade my phone to 2.0, and decide I have made a mistake can I go back and restre it to 1.4 so that it can be jailbroken and unlocked? Or will this stay 2.0 after I do it?

Is anyone having issues with receiving phone calls?
No one can call me, but I can call everyone just fine.

You're quite opinionated, considering you're the bonehead who seems to think that original and 3G iPhones will be using the same firmware...

Mind telling me why that's not possible? It's not hard to write API calls based on hardware specs. Why maintain two different code branches? That would require two different development teams.

Feel free to prove me otherwise, sucker.

Ugh, okay so this is what I've done so far:

1) Downloaded the firmware (iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw). It downloaded as a zip file, and then proceeded to auto-unzip, so I had a folder -- iPhone1,2_2.

2) Tried Option-Clicking, to install on iTunes, couldn't find the ipsw file.

3) Read up that I needed to zip the folder back to a zip, and then rename an ispw.

4) Tried re-zipping the folder into iPhone1,2_2.ipsw and then iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ispw.

5) iTunes would not update from either ispw file.

6) Tried restoring directly to the file. Restore broke.

7) Reset the computer, disconnected/reconnected iPhone. Tried restoring again. Nope.

8) So I just restored the phone back to 1.1.4. Everything's as I last synced it last night (lost a couple texts, but not a big deal).

Any suggestions?

You mean like when I plug in my iphone on the dock? How it just pops up? Yea...mine is definitely not doing that.

Do I have to have bluetooth on or anything?

It's done over WiFi... make sure you have sharing turned on in your iTunes preferences. Not that i can get past the passcode bit though :(

How do I backup information just hit sync? Cause I have done that and thought I was doing it right, but when I got my new iPhone from the genius bar it didn't have any of my contacts?

Also what are the New Zealanders using if 2.0 isn't out yet?

are u on a mac or pc. if mac the problem is that safari automatically unzips the file when you download it. go to safari preferences and then in general, deselect the check box for "automatically open safe downloads". then redownload and once its done u should have "filename".ipsw.zip. simply delete the .zip part and use this to do the option click restore thing

No issues with current 1st gen iphone, early upgrade. Install went with relative ease. I followed the instructions here:

xp machine >

1. Downloaded new itunes
2. did a final synch
3. downloaded new fw
4. upgrade (took ~ 12 minutes)
5. iphone came back up factory default with signal/full activation
6. for some reason new contacts icon was placed on third desktop, where it would have been if pre-upgrade desktops were not wiped
7. Itunes auto-recognizes the device as needing a restore or new phone activation (nice!)
8. restore competed, to include SMS and previous visual vm (heard rumors that this would not be case. very pleased)
9 Tried to get the remote control app in app store, and prompted to go to purchases in itunes to get it via synch.
10. Itunes check purchases says istore is temporairly unavailable :(

I want some apps! :)
