Ugh, okay so this is what I've done so far:

1) Downloaded the firmware (iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw). It downloaded as a zip file, and then proceeded to auto-unzip, so I had a folder -- iPhone1,2_2.

2) Tried Option-Clicking, to install on iTunes, couldn't find the ipsw file.

3) Read up that I needed to zip the folder back to a zip, and then rename an ispw.

4) Tried re-zipping the folder into iPhone1,2_2.ipsw and then iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ispw.

5) iTunes would not update from either ispw file.

6) Tried restoring directly to the file. Restore broke.

7) Reset the computer, disconnected/reconnected iPhone. Tried restoring again. Nope.

8) So I just restored the phone back to 1.1.4. Everything's as I last synced it last night (lost a couple texts, but not a big deal).

Any suggestions?

I can't find the OPTION CLICKING to install the firmware

Worked for me.

I didn't sleep last night. I was up late anyway, then 7.7 came out, then MobileMe came out so I thought...surely 2.0 would. Finally I said screw it & did it manually. I was nervous, but it worked like a charm!

are u on a mac or pc. if mac the problem is that safari automatically unzips the file when you download it. go to safari preferences and then in general, deselect the check box for "automatically open safe downloads". then redownload and once its done u should have "filename".ipsw.zip. simply delete the .zip part and use this to do the option click restore thing

On my MBP. I'm downloading it through Firefox right now. It doesn't appear to be downloading as a zip. Hopefully re-downloading will make the difference.

Apple Has Taken Down The Link To The App Store From The Main Page. Clicking Overload!

UPDATE: NVM BACK ON!

Updated to 2.0 and everything works fine EXCEPT I can't receive incoming calls. They roll immediately to voicemail.

I can dial out though.

I set up the exchange service and also the mobile me.

An option on the mobile me is to sycnh calendar, contacts, and bookamrks. When I turned those to ON, then I hit Synch.

When I hit the Synch button to complete the set up I got a message saying that those would be removed from my iphone.

I went ahead and kept bookmarks to ON , then they magically are gone.

Anyone know about this?

You are doing it wrong. After you d/l the file and you are left w/ a file name with "...restore.ipsw.zip" at the end just delete the "zip" part so that "ipsw" is left at the end. Finder may ask you if you want to change the file type. Click yes. The icon will change from a zip icon to an ipsw. THEN go to iTunes and do the opt-click to install the firmware.

Safari automatically unzips it without me doing anything. I couldn't re-zip it and re-name. I'm re-downloading it through Firefox. It looks like it will work, but the download is much slower now (150KB/sec)

How do I backup information just hit sync? Cause I have done that and thought I was doing it right, but when I got my new iPhone from the genius bar it didn't have any of my contacts?(once i reconnected to my computer)

Also what are the New Zealanders using if 2.0 isn't out yet?

anyone?

Mind telling me why that's not possible? It's not hard to write API calls based on hardware specs. Why maintain two different code branches? That would require two different development teams.

Feel free to prove me otherwise, sucker.

Folks, iPhone 3G shares a common code library with the classic iPhone for v2.0 of the firmware. However, having said that, 5A347 was designed as an internal build to be used only with 3G development iPhone units and does not include several of the code modules required to successfully run on a classic iPhone.

Build 347 is nearly certain to encounter difficulties when installed on a classic iPhone due, in part, to the reasons mentioned above. I am not prepared to say it's dangerous to install 5A347 on a classic iPhone, but it's definitely not a tested or supported firmware version for anything other than development edition 3G iPhones.

Help me please!

I am having trouble understanding how I do this. I am running Windows Vista and have saved the file to my desktop. It shows it as the little cube with the Music/iPod Icon like it is supposed too. I had installed iTunes 7.7 and then plugged in my iPhone to press ALT + Check For Updates. Nothing happens or opens. What am I missing? If someone could give me simple step by step directions on this I would appreciate it. I have trouble following things in order sometimes and read over a lot of things. Please someone help me. I want to try the Monkey Ball.

Here is my eMail if you want to send screenshorts in the directions if you think it will help.

Much Appreciation.

The kiwis are using the 2.0 preinstalled. The app store should already be up and running on the nz itunes store.

There are no 1st gen iphones in NZ or Oz so there is no need for apple to roll out 2.0 til the first country from the original launch countries hit 12am on the 11th.

At least that's what I reckon

Syncing backs up contacts, SMS messages, etc.

What's weird is one time that did happen to me too.

I restored and came back with a clean slate. Had to reset my contacts with my Address Book on my Mac, and lost my text messages.

However, last night, I was using Syphone (SMS backup utility for iPhone), and when I re-synced Syphone saw all of my old text messages. They're not viewable on my iPhone, but they're on there somewhere.

Some East Coast US downloads

Seems some buddies in EST have been able to officially download 2.0.

Update rollout must be following the sun across the earth ... wait, -- now it's clear -- the sun is Steve Jobs!!! :)

Does anyone feel that when typing in the AIM app its more difficult to type then usual and its easier to make mistakes? If not, maybe im just weird.

That's depressing that means we could have it Apple is just choosing not too, and I think that is right because I switched my country to NZ, and cancelled before the end, but When I went to iTunes store it had the app store up, but when I clicked it reverted me back to the US store.

Any answers on my backing up question?
