iPhone 2.0 Firmware (5A347) Available Early

I have the same problem... error (20) if I hold shift+click on 'check for updates' (now greyed out) or I get error (13) if I hold shift+click on 'restore'

don't think that redownloading the .ipsw file will help because I can't 'check for updates' anymore.

You can get out of DFU by Option clicking restore and re-feeding it the 2.0 update -- once that's done you'll be out (but still may need to activate).

Worked, but not smoothly!

Hi all, I thought I'd bricked my phone, but here's how I fixed it in case any others are in the same boat...

- Downloaded file
- renamed the zip as .ipsw
- opened iTunes and using Option Update started the process
- it ran almost to the end then came up with an error message
- iphone was now back to it's infant state - all it wanted was the breast of iTunes...
- tried to restore, but this kept coming up with an error message too
- panicked.
- (skips a few more stages of panic to make himself seem cooler)
- tried "it's crazy but it might work" thing of Option clicking on RESTORE, and pointing it at the new firmware file...
- it worked!
- danced around like a crazy person
- selflessly delayed playing with new apps to share his sad tale here in case others are in a similar pickle.

Love MacRumors, keep up the good work guys!

I just updated mine from 1.1.4 jailbroken and unlocked with ziphone. The upgrade went fine and my phone was picked up in itunes. So then i loaded ZiPhone and clicked the unlock process but it stalled at rebooting the phone

Have i bricked my phone oh.... oh

Use Firefox

For those who are having this issue; I first downloaded with Safari and it unzipped the file and I was effed. I then redownloaded it using Firefox, put the file on my desktop, opened iTunes 7.7 and held the Apple key while clicking "check for updates" and pointed to the file. It remained grayed out for a second, then the file turned to full-color and I selected it, follwed the steps and it upgraded smoothly.

So what are people doing in New Zealand? I assume the 3G's are shipped with the 2.0.

Also, isn't England going to the first gen-1-iPhone-country to open its doors to the 3G's? If so, doesn't that mean we in the states should have the official 2.0 by 12am Pacific since that is 8am London time?

The 2.0 update installed perfectly fine and is currently restoring my info from my backup. I'm way excited!! I'm so glad I have an iPhone. Best investment ever!!

Mine worked fine as well.

PhoneSaber is cool. I like the MLB app too, but the video works much better over wifi than edge.

As I read somewhere else in this thread, my phone's battery seems to be draining much more quickly than it normally does... I doubt it's due to the app usage (I've uploaded 4 facebook mobile photos). Is there anyone else with this problem?

All is well here. Loaded fine and all of my content is in place.

Does anyone know how to use the geo-coding on the camera? For instance, when I take a picture it asks me to allow the location services... for what? Will it place my pics on the google maps?

I love bewbs

Obviously, make sure you have iTunes 7.7. Then try rebooting. Also try turning off the iPhone and turning it back on. Usually a reboot will fix any issues you might be having.

Beginning 3rd hour of Update...

HELP! I have a normal, unjailbroken iPhone and was attempting to upgrade to the new 2.0 software using the link and downloading... yada yada...

I have just begun my third hour watching the Updating iPhone Software dialog. The green progress bar got up to about 7/8 complete pretty quick, and then it took forever to get to complete, but now that progress bar has been full for over an hour.

Any suggestions? What happens if I disconnect? Could it be that the file I downloaded glitched in the download somewhere and that's causing this? What happens if I disconnect at this point? Can I just start the process over or am I totally screwed... UNBELIEVEABLE... first time I've ever tried to do something like this "before" an official release and look what I get. HELP!?:eek:

So... I downloaded the file and it completed while I was out (was a 2 and a half hour download). Safari, even though it's set to not open files, unzipped the file and I came home to the download completed and the file unzipped. Instead of taking another 2 hours to download can I just zip compress the file back together and rename the extension?

I think Apple were aware of the battery drain which is why they greatly improved the battery life on the iPhone 3G.

That was due to 3G data, that's why they have the "disable 3G data button" if you want to save battery. No loss here. For the amount of usage i've been doing on testing out 2.0, i'd say mine is normal.

The downloaded .zip file should be in the trash. Just pull that out and rename it.

Notes On 2.0

Although I had no problems downloading or installing the 2.0 software update I have noticed some strange occurrences.

First off, what is with the Contacts widget? I've got my contacts in the phone widget as well so there really is no need for it. Not only that but you can't uninstall it, only move it to another page. I hadn't read or seen anything about this being included in 2.0 and it makes me wonder if this is not actually the final release.

My phone is running warm. I haven't had it off the dock for long enough to see if this is a battery drainage issue yet, but the last time I noticed this (when I first got the phone), it was. It required me to restore the phone and load everything back on after that it worked fine. I guess I'll find out after I'm at work for a while.

Push doesn't seem to be working for me. But Mobile Me has been down all day so I haven't been able to visit the website to tinker with any settings.
Side note - What is going on with Mobile Me, it was suppose to be up by now, what kind of problems are they running into?

I think that's it so far, the apps are working great, so far the Remote and AIM are my favorites. Super Monkey Ball is fun but hard to get used to, I keep falling off the edge, but I kind of suck at video games anyway, and that's not the phone's fault.

One of the reason some folks might be having battery drainage is probably because you're using the iPhone/WiFi a lot more than you think you normally do with all the new apps and excitement and all. My iPhone is doing exactly what I expected it to do and I've been putting it through it's paces with my 3 computers and the Apple TV.

So relax. :)

BTW the BEST app is Apple's remote. I absolutely love it.

You realize all the Contacts "app" is is simply a shortcut to Phone -> Contacts, right? It's not a new app at all, it's just a quicker way to access your contacts.

Of course this is the final firmware.

Good advice and it mirrors my experience/expectations.

And Remote.ipa FTW. (Are we going to call them ipas or still apps?)
