well maybe cause apple hasn't distributed this firmware. someone scanned their site and found it embedded. if it was out to the wolves it would be in itunes when u sync your phone. i have read every post on this topic and throughout the day the only person who seems to know what he's talking about is SPX. People cant wait and are just bashing everything left and right. You can tell the windoze guys are even more lost "wheres the option key in vista."

All I'm saying is nothing will be official until the morning. Can an admin just lock this thread now. Yes for some people it works, some not but its probably not official.

This is only for people with "Hacked" or stock iPhones, NOT "Unlocked" iPhones. Trying this with an unlocked iPhone will brick your phone. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

1. After you have a clean restored 1.1.x image, complete your back-up or at least get 1/4 to 1/2 way into it or you will get errors (Unknown error [1] for example).

2. If you don't want to complete the whole back up, stop your backup at about 1/4 to 1/2 way through, hold the option key, select Restore.

3. Now select the file you downloaded and renamed above.

4. Sit back and do something as it will take a while to complete the upgrade

5. Restore from the back up you made earlier

6. Enjoy!

Wow that's complicated. I just downloadede the firmware, shift-clicked restore, and found the 2.0 firmware.

That's it.

Sorry if this has already been addressed (I've tried to read as much of this forum as I can) but I'm really curious why everyone thinks firmware 2.0 will be released tomorrow. Ok, I know this may sound stupid...but I can't find any official statement from apple saying that its coming tomorrow. Even on their site it still says coming soon.

With this quasi-early release mistake, I am starting to get the feeling it may still be a few days/weeks away (God I hope not). I downloaded the firmware earlier today but decided to wait until the official release to upgrade. Now, I just want some reassurance before I go to bed that its coming. Can anyone post a link to an official apple announcement of the release date.

Yep, Yep...maybe its really never coming...or they are delaying it so that the only way to experience 2.0 is to buy an iPhone 3g. Dirty dogs...:p

couldnt we jst downgrade to 1.1.4 manually (option and click method and direct to 1.1.4 and then upgrade back to 2.0 like we should have?

how would i get 1.1.4 to do this?
 
ok after i saw the stuff on the mobile me site (Requires 2.0 available July 11th) I am less concerned about it coming tomorrow. Although, still confused why this was not posted on the 2.0 software website.

...I really hope when they said "available July 11th" they didn't mean "available on the 3G model July 11th and as an upgrade TBD." :confused:That would suck.

I'm waiting for 32gb, new screen, a little different form factor, better battery and thats just a little of what I'm waiting for. I just feel like this update is kinda intermediary. Nothing great except from the looks of 3g and GPS...nothing special. Apple sure knows how to market and Job's business plans are impeccable. 3g and GPS should have already been on the iPhone. The next version will probably see some really nice revisions.
 
iphone crash?

so um i downloaded itunes 7.7 early this morning before it was officially announced or whatever and when i connected my iphone to the computer the "usb device was unrecognizable" and it also wont charge, should i do a hard reset or what?? someone please help me and give me some direction as to fix this problem, thanks....
 
this might be just me but, i went to the maps application and told it to find my location and when not in wifi it seems like the circle it places me in is WAAAYYY bigger than what it was under 1.1.4, but with wifi it seems slightly smaller and more accurate
anyone else?

You downloaded iTunes 7.7 before it was announced?? Um just re-download it and install it...:confused:

I'm having the exact same issue. Once the 2.0 is installed, the iPhone is unable to restore. It said it's missing some "required resource" or something of that nature. Then the phone goes to the picture of the cable and iTunes. Then when I try to hit restore it says unable to restore error code (20).

If anyone knows of a way to get back to 1.1.4 so that I can get the "required resources" that would be great. Or if someone knows what error code (20) is.
 
2.0 First Impressions

I am seeing bugs with the firmware.

Mail isn't working at all, I may need to re-image. I also noticed "Location services" was set to on, this seems to indicate that the firmware is definitely for a 3G iPhone. However, to contradict this statement, I can't find the 3G toggle anywhere.

I am going to reload and check mail...

Will post soon...

wait, i thought the 2.0 firmware was already released in the US? i dont know...i bought super monkey ball and downloaded aim and myspace apps but my iphone cant connect to itunes or charge, so idk what to do:(

this is what we need to figure out.. i have a thread but no responses.. everyone and their brother has unofficial 2.0 we need to figure out how to downgrade to 1.1.4 so we can get official 2.0

2.0 firmware has not been officially released in the U.S. yet.

'Officially' means through a software update via iTunes.
