1,2 (leaked) vs. 1,1

Updating the firmware right now from yesterdays leaked version of:

iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

...to the new one that is smaller, but oddly enough has a lower version number:

iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

...I looked inside the .ipsw and the 1,1 (newer one) does have 2 newer files in it:

1,1: 018-3785-2.dmg (195.8MB) vs 1,2: 018-3782-2.dmg (195.9MB)
1,1: 018-3786-2.dmg (18MB) vs 1,2: 018-3783-2.dmg (24.1MB)

The 018-3786-2.dmg not only has what appears to be a higher version number then the 1,2 (leaked) version, but it's the only file with a newer timestamp of 12:07AM vs 12:06AM of the 018-3783-2.dmg (leaked) version.

Both firmware releases have mostly June 26th, 2008 dates on all the files.

SO LONG STORY SHORT: Even though the newer one is smaller, it does appear to be 1 minute newer and 2 file names inside the .ipsw appear to indicate newer revision numbers. So 1,1 is newer and smaller then yesterdays 1,2. Weird.

One problem I noticed yesterday with the (leaked) firmware, was when running Facebook, and then putting my phone into sleep mode, when I woke up this morning to turn the phone on, the battery was at 10% !!! So something was not right with letting the Facebook app hog on the battery while in standby mode. Maybe this version fixes that.

arrrggg

Im stuck also, jsut updated usign the leaked version and now i cannot access itunes to, i assume finish off the update. Emergency calls only:( There doesnt seem to be any way to restore now to 1.1.4. Does anyone know if hti sis jsut server overload problem?

Downloading now through iTunes here in California. Slow wifi here at work, hopefully it finishes before I go home at 7.

Here's to hoping for good results!

Why bother. The "leaked" version works perfectly.
Not "perfectly" for me. The iPhone works great, but I cannot sync my information reliably. (Not without a 2-hour "leave-it-be" period.) I downloaded the iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw and forced update. iTunes is "preparing for software update" now. We'll see.

Just like Kins said im still stuck with accessing i tunes store dam and i need to leave for work in 15 minutes

Updated to the newer smaller iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw and it finished flashing, but it's sitting in iTunes saying: "Accessing iTunes Store..." for a long while now. I think it's trying to activate, maybe the activation servers are too bogged down, because the normal iTunes Store does load within iTunes.

I installed the leaked version yesterday.

Today, clicking Restore in iTunes is allowing me to download and install the shipping version, the 1,1. So... good news for the early adopters.

yesterdays was great but a bit laggy. Hopefully this is a bit more swift. And less crashy

Is the base band the same version?

well it timed out with a error code so i unpluged it and try again i asume its a overload problem with itunes to many logged on trying to update ?

Help!

evey time i try and get my iphone out of recovery mode, i use the "leaked" software to restore it, i just get the iphone to show up in my itunes and all it says is "accessing itunes music store"

any ideas?

What the heck? I pushed the update button and it says I need to upgrade to 7.7, which I did yesterday. When I click update, it opens Software Update, which can't find anything. I tried going to apple.com/itunes to download it directly, but I don't see any download link on the page. It's blank!

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

I want 2.0, but I can't figure out how to fix this!

EDIT: "A new iPhone software version (2.0) is available, but required iTunes 7.7. Would you like to update iTunes 7.7 now?"

But when I click About iTunes, it says I'm using 7.7...

Is the base band the same version?

I can't tell, unless those 2 .dmg's I specified in the root of the .ipsw are the baseband. If so, then yes it is newer. I still can't access the iPhone itself since updating the new one, it's still at trying to access the itunes store to activate. I even stopped it once, and tried the "Restore" option to download the new .ipsw through itunes itself. The filesize is the same for the 1,1 link posted here in the forums as the one now downloaded through itunes. So they should be the same. But it doesn't matter how you install the new one (Restore or Manually from the downloaded .ipsw) they both hang on the itunes store activation.

seems to be a stellar launch all round from Apple and O2 in the UK. The O2 credit checking software required Internet explorer. Brilliant for the apple stores using safari. Then the server crashed. Again brilliant

now just sat twiddling thumbs waiting to access the itunes store

Guessing at the volume of activations being processed right now I am hardly surprised.

I installed the early version, did the restore off/home button trick, downloaded the new 2.0, went mostly through the install process and now I get an error saying that the connection to itunes store timed out and need to check my network connection. Anyone else have this problem? Could it be because the apple servers are overloaded?

I'm in the same boat -- connection to iTunes store timed out. I'll have to keep trying every so often. Maybe by this afternoon it will be okay. :( At least I have some level of confidence that I'm on the "approved" version of 2.0. Hope that clears up the issues I had with the earlier version.

Is this "activation problem" only affecting those of us who are loading 2.0-b over 2.0-a? Or are those upgrading from 1.4 to 2.0 via iTunes in the same boat?

The activation issues happened last year too. Amazing. I downloaded my update but didn't install yet. Maybe I'll hold off until tonight. I can't afford to be stuck waiting for iTunes activation and not have a phone for work.
