OK, ok, children. Stop getting at each other. Lighningboot - welcome. Let's hope you choose to stay here after you've fixed your problem. Who knows, maybe your fix might help someone else?

But I must say, what has your business trip with lots of women got to do with fixing your phone? That probably isn't the kind of thing to say to win over any potential helpers

Anyway, I'd say get your phone in DFU mode. http://sleepers.net/news/?page_id=13 It's a special low-level mode that lets you completely restore your phone if the worse happens. After that, download the 2.0 firmware (there are links in this thread, and elsewhere) and do an option(alt)+restore in iTunes when it detects you've plugged in a phone in DFU mode.

There are two types of 'recovery' modes AFAIK: you've got one with the little itunes icon your phone telling you to plug it in, and one with a blank screen. The one with the blank screen is the one you probably want in this case, as it is more low-level, and seems to put the phone in more of a restorable state.

Hope that helps.

Cheers mate, I know this is going to sound a bit weird, but I love you. Its preparing the phone for restore. Do you know off hand how long it takes to completely install the new firmware?

Does this mean us PAYG'ers might finally get full EDGE speeds?

What PAYG SIM you got? Would a Text Anytime PAYG 02 SIM work?

Just got this email reply from 02 from when I asked them a few hours back:

"Thanks for emailing us to find out if you can use your existing SIM card in your 2G iPhone.

You won't be able to use your existing Text Anytime SIM card in your 2G iPhone. This means you won't get 300 text messages after topping it for £10.00 including VAT (Value Added Tax). This is because you'll need to buy a Pay & Go iPhone SIM card from any O2 store and then use it.

The iPhone SIM card is set to the Favourite Place tariff, so gives you unlimited calls to any UK landline or O2 mobile from your chosen postcode when you top up £30.00 including VAT or more a month. If you don't like the sound of this tariff, you'll be able to switch to one of our other Pay & Go tariffs."

Are they BS'ing?

its in iTunes now
Just tried "upgrading" on iTunes from the 2.0 version that was linked to from here yesterday and it says that I already have the current version. I assume that the "official" release is different because the download size is smaller. So it sounds like we'll need a link/method for upgrading from the early release.

with the release so close, i chose not to update it yesterday, as tempting as it was not to.

so i am still on 1.1.4 and not seeing it when i click "check for update"

Niiiiice....

I've had the update now to iPod Touch v.2.0 for 23 minutes and now it's back to "Your software is the uptodate and current".

Laaame...

I'm very disappointed in the major role-outs Apple has been displaying lately.

Not very professional compared to other companies...

This works. Try it. I was one of he impatient ones who installed the early release version. It was buggy. I used this restore method and it is now installing the official 2.0. THANKS!
