Great, a genius playlist. For a year & a half now, we've been hearing people say nothing but "well the iphone seems nice, but gosh, it just doesn't have a semi-intelligent shuffle feature". WHERE THE HELL IS COPY & PASTE!!!

When the bug fixes roll down the pipe on friday, they had better come with some big surprises after three wild disappointments in a row and this "big deal" press call.

This thing had better eat flowers and poop rainbows.

Weak...

...quite simply W.E.A.K.

That's it? All that for "bug fixes"? You gotta be kidding!

And where the HELL is the horizontal keyboard for texting for ()*&^% sake?!?!?!?!

I have to say, for me it's much more difficult to type on the landscape keyboard than it is portrait.

great that they are fixing the many bugs out there......but im still not impressed with how they are handling these BASIC missing features on "the most advanced smart phone around" overall im still pleased with the phone but i just do not understand what apple is thinking when not implementing these little things.

Just because you don't care about what was announced, doesn't make them any less "big". These announcements are huge for shareholders, as these updates/revisions will keep people buying for the holiday season. Also, apple never "advertised" this event to be big. Hell, they didn't advertise this event at all. They invited the press to a closed event. 99% of the buying public won't see the hype, the live text feeds, the rumors. All they see are the new products, which will look pretty huge to them. Apple isn't in business for us, the geeks and rumor addicts. They are in business for the majority of people who buy. We are not the majority.

I thought it brought some interesting announcements but I agree that there wasn't anything shocking or big about it but still cool.

I am really hoping though that when 2.1 comes out it has Copy and Paste because I am tired of having to write or memorize those stupid IDs and passwords when some one sends you a mms. It takes me at least 3 tries and I am so pissed I don't even care about whatever it was they sent me  Oh, better battery life sounds nice too.

No you won't lose your voicemails. I'm not sure what you mean about losing contacts, etc.

If you update to the latest version, you'll lose nothing. It's a beautiful thing. No worries.
ok, thanks.

Yep... big alright. That is why apples stock is down six bucks right now. Appears shareholders are as disgruntled as we are.

Way to go apple!

I wonder if the new update (2.1) will let you shake the phone to shuffle the songs. I like how the new nano does that. They should bring that to the update. :)

i would imagine so...

i would be shocked if they didn't include this as it is just software -- maybe this is the hidden feature.

What...
NO album art reflections in raster view?

lol

come on Apple, i like consistent things, roll out the update -> rounded corners and reflections like iPhoto Events.... :p

Anyone else having problems updating to 2.1? My iTunes says 2.1 is available but I need to be on iTunes 7.1 to upgrade (which I am) then it tries to update but finds no updates

What I don't understand is that Apple SHOULD know that things like "Turn by Turn" GPS, Streaming TV, Data share, copy & paste and others are BIG selling points. People will stick with their Blackberries and other smart phones cause they DO these things!!! If Apple wants to dominate the smartphone market it needs to LISTEN to its customers!!

That's iPod Touch update not iPhone. iPhone update isn't until Friday.

I'm glad I have already decided to sell my iPhone. This announcement just made me feel even better about my decision.

According to all I read, the iPhone won't be getting the Nike+ support. Apparently, it's built into the 2nd generation iPod Touch, which also excludes first-gen iTouch owners.

Weak.

This article clearly states that the 2nd gen iTouch has a built in receiver Nike+

http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/ipod-touch-updated-same-screen-new-case/

And this article claims to have found out through interviews that the only device supported is the 2nd gen iTouch (which makes sense considering the built-in receiver)

Ugh. Throw me a fkn bone here, Apple!

I'm still holding out for a few extra iPhone features on Friday. Hoping it's a bit more than just bug fixes.

I guess NO PHONE CALL DROPs will be 2.2 then...

2.1 No apps crashing

2.2 No Phone call drops

2.3 ??
2.4 Profit.

I think Apple can probably do more about apps crashing than calls dropping.

I'm really curious if they can squeeze more battery life out of the 1st gen, or if the improved battery life is meant for while using 3G features.

A literal shake on my iPhone to shuffle songs?

Right, just make sure you don't reach in your pant pocket and shake your iPhone in front of young children. It may look perverted.

Someone please enlighten me. What's this "Push" feature I hear so much rant about?
I already have push from my work email and my MobileMe account - I receive my email fairly quickly (sometimes) on the iPhone.
What's the "push" hype for?

Apple's stock dropping and MacRumors forums being full of bitter people posting are two things that happen after virtually every Apple media event.

If this truly improves battery time and general reliability, I'll be very happy. All the other stuff, that can wait until the device itself is stable.
