Still playing with the new firmware.....but I do miss the 3g box as well. However I did notice that 3g now gives me 5 bars in my apartment, where it previously gave 1-3. When I go to field test, the radio signal is still the same as before the update. Sooooooooooooooooo.....did they boost the signal bars even though you still get the same radio reception? Seems like it.

I keep getting this message everytime I try to restore :(

The update only took ~10 minutes.

I now have 4-5 bars in my home here in Norman, OK. Used to only get 1-2. Everything seems to be in good order. No lag yet. Seems Apple did a good job here. We will see in a few days I guess as more people get it and test it out.

Hells Bells, that was a fast install!! less than 10 mins.

3G at my house gone from 1 bar to 4/5.

Contacts lag nearly gone.

Safari seems to launch quicker.

Back up took less than a minute.

Looking positive at the moment. I guess us beta testers will soon find niggles. LOL :)

after you install everything, the backing up process is supposed to suck only for the first time right?

Christ, all this excitement from the update junkies.. And it's essentially exactly the same. Whoopteedoo..

Oh most definitely.

Just installed 2.1 and my 3G signal at home (West Los Angeles) is now at 5 bars. I used to only get 1 bar before and would switch to Edge while at home. So far so good.

Anyone know if EDGE is improved? I still have iPhone Classic and have experienced a terrible signal at my apartment (which is just a mile off of I-40 in Raleigh and less than a mile from the N.C. State campus...wtf?)

So, do you need to resync your whole library after the update? Some updates before required it, others didn't, and my PB doesn't have USB 2.0 (so resyncing takes a while).

From the release notes: "Improves accuracy of 3G reception indicator" (or something like that).

Same results here. Went from 0-1 bars of reception to 4-5 bars. Data speed appears to taken a significant jump. Previously it did, on average, 350kbps. Now it does anywhere between 450 and 700 kbps from the same spot. Very nice!

Oh, and apps install in a fraction of the time it used to take. HUGE bonus if you're a dev.
