iPhone 2.1 Firmware Now Available

Downloaded and installed in about 15min.

Lets see what she can do. My moms house has no 3G....lets see if I get some now.
 
sync error with 2.1

Just upgraded from 2.0.2 to 2.1. Now I get sync errors ...

Mine is installed now. Doesn't look much different. There is a new edge icon. All my IMAP email is there, but my Exchange email has to redownload.

Anyone know if this update includes application push support?

I believe only the new Nano has Shake-to-Shuffle, not the Touch (at least the Touch user manual doesn't list it, while the Nano manual does explicitly list it), so why would the iPhone have it?
 
Operator name (T-Mobile here) is showing up as "T-Mo..." here, and scrolling every once and then.

This was something that got fixed from 2.0 to 2.0.1.

Very minor non-issue, but it is regression to something that was fixed in a previous version. Let's hope no real old errors have crept back in.

So people can cry and complain if something should happen during the installation process like the power going out or the USB cable disconnecting?

Just suck it up (like I'm doing) and be patient. Better to have one last backup than a brick.

So has the 3G reception been improved. I thought It was just the accuracy of the indicator?

It's standard GPRS. When there isn't EDGE or 3G it falls back to GPRS.
 
At the top of lengthy text conversations it now says "Load Earlier Messages". Talk about feature updates

Cool, I guess.

OMGosh!

If I'da known that the update was going to require one last 3.5 hour backup, I would have waited! :mad:

understandable since iTunes does the same thing the first time you use it.
 
Much better 3g coverage in my house.

I could never even get a signal with my 1st gen Iphone. I switch to 3g two weeks ago and I could finally make a phone call in my house. Now the 2.1 i have full bars where I would only get 2 bars, and where I would get none still with 3g in my house now I have 3 bars.

Thanks Apple. Now Steve, go eat something, you're skin and bones. Go to Chipotle and get some guac and chips and a beer. You done good kid!

I totally agree! I love my "Mail Mutha F...." from Eurotrip or heck, any other sound I want. New Mail, New Text, etc. :)
 
3g singnal improved

went from 1 or no bars of 3g to full signal in my house
everything else is the same:mad:

When my iphone restarted I didn't have to restore from backup. Did this happen for everyone?

Everything was there- nothing missing at all. It almost was an archive and install as opposed to a fresh install. Strange? Or normal?

That's exactly what was done. Hence the language:

"- improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display"

Notice it doesn't say improved 3G reception, but rather the DISPLAY shows more bars. The proof will be in real-world performance and whether this was merely an attempt to placate the angry masses.

I'm at work now unable to update, but when I get home I'll run a speed test both before and after the update from the same spot to see if there's a difference.

I had the exact same problem. So, I just did a complete restore, using the new firmware, and my latest data backup. Would have been nice to have been able to just update the firmware and call it a day, but oh well. Beggars can't be choosers, lol :)
 
Sync time isn't any faster for me. Maybe cut a minute or 2 of the 20 minute backup.

After the first sync the backup is much faster. Now it syncs in 30 to 45 seconds with 10 apps installed.
