My iPhone 3G is synced with my home mac. At work, I have a Windows PC. Assuming I have a data cable, is there a way I can plug my iPhone in and update it here at work without losing any data on my phone? Or is the only way to do that is by doing a restore on my work PC? Or should I just wait to get home?

listening to an a genius playlist on the iPod while browsing from within netnewswire typing this message. Should have crashed by now ;) Some lag persist, but not a whole lot. And it is to be expected with this kind of pressure. Hehe. Contact lag is gone.

Yes, you can backup and install 2.1 over your current version and not lose anything.

I'm liking all the reactions. I look forward to downloading and installing after work. Also, I REALLY hope this puts a huge dent for all those morons starting class-action lawsuits.

Will install the update when I get home today. Looking forward to this update!

Capacity Breakdown ... Apps

Hey All, In the capacity breakdown of the iPhone in iTunes, it now has Apps listed. Didn't this used to be under Other? Is this new to iTunes 8? Pretty cool either way. Loving the update.

25% into another laborious backup - hoping this is the LAST long backup!

download was quick (about 30 minutes ago)... good luck with the bu's!

You'll lose videos and music but if you run a backup first and restore from you win PC you'll be Ok otherwise.

I'm waiting on the last 8th of a backup...then I guess I have to install Itunes 8 :(

When I get that done I'm going to check the DB level in the field test before and after the update to see if the 3G fixed change that around or not.

Downloaded & Updated. Contact lag definitely gone and everything seems much snappier than ever!

Is there a way to make it skip the backup before it upgrades?? Its already taken 15 minutes and its only under the "c" in "backing up...". I dont have all morning to waste waiting on this...

Genuis is there. Pay a tune and tap the album art to get the time wiper. In the middle is the genius icon. Tap it and a playlist is made from that tune.

Excuse my ignorance...

I did the direct download of the updater, since I can't get through with iTunes on the network at work. Now how do I get it to update my phone?
