I think the iphone shouild startup on the middle page of apps being the main one?

So for example say there are 5 pages of apps it should start on the middle (third) page, that way you only have to scroll half way for the other pages.

Did that make any sense to anyone other than myself?

I'm happy that all the bugs appear to have been fixed

GPS improvements

I had trouble with various GPS functions. Often apps like OmniFocus would sometimes hang waiting for the location, never getting even a rough one, unless I restarted the iPhone (off/on).

This seems to have gone away, and the location system seems to be able to get a true GPS fix in places where it couldn't before, such as the basement of my house. Before, it couldn't get a GPS fix even on the main floor. Anyone else seeing significant GPS improvements?

When my phone was done, iTunes said "your phone is being activated," and then it said "your phone has been activated," and then on the phone it said "Your phone has been activated." I never saw the word "Reactivated," but I don't know if it's the same thing or not.

Knowing AT&T, they'll try and charge everyone an activation fee again!

No, the 2.0.1 update needed a reactivation. I found this out the hard way by putting the phone into Airplane mode before the update. Freaked out when it would only load the Emergency Screen. Of course, dialing a number in that screen turns off Airplane mode and allows activation.

Way to go Jobs!!!

Just got done updating....

Have 4-5 bars on the 3G network where as before I would only get 1-2
Apps are opening much quicker
Genius playlists work nicely.
No more text lag!!!!!

Ok, so why since I downloaded the update, it was "activated" and now I have NO SERVICE? My friggin phone has no service throughout my apartment where I used to easily get service....

Anyone getting better EDGE reception on their iPhone 3G with the 2.1 update?

Main reason I ask is New Hampshire does not have 3G yet (supposedly is coming next month).

Painful Backup Work-around...

Do a restore... it will ask you if you want to back up (no), and then ask you if you want to restore to original configuration, or to update to the new software. For me, this will be MUCH faster than allowing the backup to finish (was already 30 minutes into it and maybe 10% done).

Hope that helps anyone else with this issue.

Am I the only one who finds such usage of that word offensive? Spelling it differently doesn't change its homophobic undertone.
You're not alone.

My iPhone 3G is synced with my home mac. At work, I have a Windows PC. Assuming I have a data cable, is there a way I can plug my iPhone in and update it here at work without losing any data on my phone? Or is the only way to do that is by doing a restore on my work PC? Or should I just wait to get home?
I wouldn't, but if you can't wait, and don't mind losing your music, videos, and podcasts, go for it.

Is there a way to make it skip the backup before it upgrades?? Its already taken 15 minutes and its only under the "c" in "backing up...". I dont have all morning to waste waiting on this...
Why would you want to skip the backup when it would mean that if something goes wrong, you won't be able to put everything back into your phone? Makes no sense to me, just to save some time...

Well I guess I'm screwed until apple releases iTunes 8.1, because iTunes 8 hasn't been launching on my computer.

Do you have the translucent menus hack installed in Mac OS X Leopard? My iTunes 8 wouldn't start up until I reversed the hack. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you don't have the hack.

Has anyone made an actual phone call to see if the 3G reception is indeed better. Could the software update just change the display of the "bars" so it looks like you are getting better reception?

I would be interested in seeing of people are still getting dropped calls.

Gah! Typical!

I'm up until gone 3.30am with toothache. Have a wisdom tooth extracted by my dentist. Go for a lie down as feel awful and not 20mins later they release it!!!
Maybe I should have gone back to bed earlier, lol.

Downloading mine as we speak.
