Mine is installed now. Doesn't look much different. There is a new edge icon. All my IMAP email is there, but my Exchange email has to redownload.

Anyone know if this update includes application push support?

Get a Mac dude..... ;)

Why would you want to skip the backup when it would mean that if something goes wrong, you won't be able to put everything back into your phone? Makes no sense to me, just to save some time...

Because anything I really need on the phone, I will sync back to it once it is restored, and my backup was going to take over 2 hours at this rate... I have to go to work sometime today.

Has anyone made an actual phone call to see if the 3G reception is indeed better. Could the software update just change the display of the "bars" so it looks like you are getting better reception?

I would be interested in seeing of people are still getting dropped calls.

I speculated that maybe they changed the bars with software SO THAT it wouldn't switch from 3G back to EDGE so easily and drop calls.

Call quality is just as excellent as it was before. (I've always had excellent sound quality on my iPhone. I have had a few dropped calls though, but never deterioration of sound quality)

Do you think it also allows for the new in ear headphones? I can't believe they don't work with the iphone

No Push support?

downloaded & installed. does anyone know if this update includes push support? or do we have to wait until later in the month?

i'm pretty sure jobs didn't mention it in the keynote :(

You're not alone.

How do you skip backup? After 6 weeks of having my phone, I just synced it with my computer for the first time. The 2.1 update took 12 minutes from start to finish. If it took that short of a time, does that mean it did not backup? Where do I have a choice? I don't recall it asking me.

damn I checked for it before going to my 8am class but it wasn't out yet.
now i gotta wait till i get home @ 130 :-(

but only 2 classes 2day :)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

Looking forward to downloading it when I get home. What kind of install times is everyone getting? What are the first reactions to it?

Did anyone else ever have a problem with the WiFi reception signal?

I never had problems with 3G signal strength or dropped calls but I would get only 1 or 2 bars of Wifi in my own house only a couple of feet away from my Airport base station. My original iPhone Edge never had this problem and neither does my iMac (which gets full strength). Maybe the update will fix this as well.

Still waiting for it to finish backing up before it installs. This is what I get for cancelling backups every time I would connect it to iTunes!

This may have been mentioned, but I am elated by the feature included: repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages. This is going to be big for all of us who have oncall type jobs.

Thanks Apple! you really do look after us!

I can't find it! I've looked everywhere. Has anyone found this yet?

I have just applied the 2.1 update and have noticed the following changes:

- The screen seems more yellow
- iPhone is definitely snappier
- The internal speakers are definitely louder
- The second speaker now works on the bottom of the phone (it has never worked since purchasing iPhone)
- If you shake iPhone when playing music, it shuffles the current playlist
- 3G signal strength is vastly improved, before I could only get the 'washing machine' icon now I get full 3G coverage!
- Battery life is MUCH improved. I haven't had to charge iPhone since the 2.1 update!

A big pat on the back goes to Steve and the team.

I nearly had a heart attack

I have been one of the ones blessed by the good Lord.

All my updates have been relatively problem free. Most of my issues were minor.

When I updated, safari failed to download anything! Then after a couple of tries getting other programs to access the 3G network, it came back to life, Faster than ever.

I am in Cambridge and on O2.

That was close.

Why post something like that???? Why dont you do it? Tap the darn thing and what ever happens will be your answer. That like asking if its raining when your standing outside.

Downloaded, installed ... took about 10 minutes.

All songs, files, contacts, email, calender settings, etc. intact.

Gotta say, this update was about the best it's been for the iPhone.

This WAY makes up for the 2.0 upgrade trainwreck! :p

I downloaded the software pretty fast (less than 4 minutes with my 15Mbps Road Runner Turbo) but now I have to wait for the excruciating long backup.

iPhone Backup Time

my iPhone took 55 minutes to backup before 2.1 update, now backup took 2 minutes 20 seconds!

Apps install really fast now - like the add's and also noticed the ablum art in Audiobooks is much bigger - old art seems to be too small for the window now!

Not a problem tho!
