Oookkkkk....

Might be the first problem.... but its not a biggie.

Some of my apps, (movies, tuner, IM+) failed to work after the update, even if you turned it on and off.

However if you delete them off the phone itself, then re-install them via itunes then the problem seems to be solved. (and what a fast install off the missing apps too)

Just thought Id give you a heads up.

OMG I THINK THIS IS B.S.

Now i'm getting full 3G signal, open Safari, and it take years to load any page.

When i was using 2.0.2, it was way way faster.

Now i'm pissed.... WTF IS WRONG WITH APPLE

Pretty happy with the update, mostly because the SMS keyboard lag is gone! Contact lag is gone, and backup was much quicker.

My only issue is my reception may be worse, I used to get 1-2 bars of 3G, not I only get edge and I'm in the middle of Manhattan. Anyone else having this problem?

text message repeat

the update was supposed to include the ability to have text message repeat notifications up to 2 times - but i don;t see where i adjust this

Just finished 2.1 download. Took about 2 min on my cable connection. 237.8 mb.

Now doing the auto backup before the install...and it's taking painfully long!! They couldn't fix the backup first with a small fix? My longest backup was an overnight job. Not sure when it actually finished but it was well into the 2 hour range. This better not take that long. I MUST start counting 3g bars immediately!!!

help me.

Are you on a PC? My backup on my Windows XP Pro machine (Athlon XP 3500+) isn't going too bad. I had already done a backup last night so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. In any case I am about 15 minutes into the backup and it is 3/4 of the way done.

- The internal speakers are definitely louder
- The second speaker now works on the bottom of the phone (it has never worked since purchasing iPhone)
- If you shake iPhone when playing music, it shuffles the current playlist

I can confirm the first item.. definitely seems louder.

Also, the volume buttons appear to work while the iPhone is locked.

As per the second and third items.. I always assumed the "second speaker" was, in fact, the mic. And mine still does not produce sound. I also cannot shake to shuffle playlists.

I noticed, quite by accident, that wiping my finger left and right across the email lists enables and disables the "Delete" button for whatever email was under the finger motion. I suppose it's a handy feature although I'm going to be upset if I actually delete mail by accident because of it. The Edit button was a lot safer, IMO.

I don't need any Apple fan counterpoint or justification here, just mentioning it.

Contact lag is definitely gone for me. Instant scrolling when it opens.

The songs view in iPod now shows the artist and album detail under the song title like the touch and the Remote App does. Longer scrub bar like on the touch, by moving the shuffle and repeat icons down.

I'm doing a ridiculous back-up as well (I usually just cancel them when I sync...) Hopefully 2.1 fixes all of that.

Apple Server's are CRAZY fast. I live in Switzerland, but have an American account, so presumably I'm downloading from somewhere in California...and I get over 4mbps...insanity :D...downloaded the update in about a minute :D

I never had the horror stories of the hour long backups (usually took me about 10-15 minutes). The first time I connected my phone after the update it took about 2 min. Then after I updated some apps in iTunes, I reconnected my phone and it took probably about 10 seconds, I was Amazed!! Great Job Apple!

P.S. Also love that updated apps stay in there old positions, now I can really organize my apps how I've always wanted to!

Alert - Humour detection malfunction

I have just applied the 2.1 update and have noticed the following changes:

- The screen seems more yellow
- iPhone is definitely snappier
- The internal speakers are definitely louder
- The second speaker now works on the bottom of the phone (it has never worked since purchasing iPhone)
- If you shake iPhone when playing music, it shuffles the current playlist
- 3G signal strength is vastly improved, before I could only get the 'washing machine' icon now I get full 3G coverage!
- Battery life is MUCH improved. I haven't had to charge iPhone since the 2.1 update!

A big pat on the back goes to Steve and the team.

I actually tried to shake my iPhone to see if it would shuffle...

That has been a feature for as long as I can remember. It was the only way to delete mail before the mass delete i think.

Ok, tnx. Did that and I seems OK now.

My findings so far:

- much faster contacts scrolling
- no more apps crashing
- little GUI changes that will not increase my heart beat

IMHO they better could call this upgrade 2.0.2001
Why do people put so much emphasis on the version number?

If you don't like this update, throw your iPhone in the trash and get a WinMo phone.

text reminder

I'm looking thru the software to see how to set the stated "addtional text reminder" and can't find it...

anyone?

thx, mike

I have some files stored on the iphone via the AirSharing app, and I'm a bit worried that the update process will erase everything. Can anyone confirm that files stored in this manner survive? Will they be erased? I have no WiFi where I am
