That has been a feature for as long as I can remember. It was the only way to delete mail before the mass delete i think.

Funny I never noticed it before. Maybe something changed as far as detecting the swipe? Beats me...it never happened before, now it does it every time I bring up mail and touch something on the screen. *shrug* Beats me.

All i want is updated apps to not lose their place on my home pages.

I take the time to organize each page e.g. one games page one utility page one communications page etc. then when ever they get updated it screws up my whole system!

Maybe i'm just a little OCD - but come on :apple:!

OMG I THINK THIS IS B.S.

Now i'm getting full 3G signal, open Safari, and it take years to load any page.

When i was using 2.0.2, it was way way faster.

Now i'm pissed.... WTF IS WRONG WITH APPLE

Whether you have 2 bars of 3G or 5 bars of 3G does not affect the speed. It just tells how strong the signal is. It does not make it faster or slower. I know this because I have specifically experimented with this many times before. Use one of the speed test websites and you will see for yourself.

I noticed, quite by accident, that wiping my finger left and right across the email lists enables and disables the "Delete" button for whatever email was under the finger motion. I suppose it's a handy feature although I'm going to be upset if I actually delete mail by accident because of it. The Edit button was a lot safer, IMO.

I don't need any Apple fan counterpoint or justification here, just mentioning it.

This is not a new feature, it's always been there

How do you skip backup? After 6 weeks of having my phone, I just synced it with my computer for the first time. The 2.1 update took 12 minutes from start to finish. If it took that short of a time, does that mean it did not backup? Where do I have a choice? I don't recall it asking me.
No, it doesn't mean that it didn't do a backup. My phone (pre-2.1) regularly had 5-7 minute backups, even with over 50 installed apps.

Anyway, you can't skip a backup before a software update.

That way of deleting an email has been on the iPhone since 1.0, they didn't take it out when they added the "Edit" button. As far as I can tell there has been no change in the sensitivity or activation of it in 2.1.

same....how embarrassing!

anyhooooo-wtf, can you set a 2nd text alert or not???

Who knows? Have someone send you a text and don't unlock your phone to check it, let it sit and see if it vibrates or chimes again? :)

We finally have a working iPhone3G, at least I do

+1400Kbps on 3G... backing up took maybe a minute.. I am getting full 5 bars in my office inside a warehouse were I only managed 2 bars on a good day.. Good stuff!!

Actually, that does it on my 2.0.1 software too (I am still at 2.0.1-I have no need to upgrade as I do not seem to be suffering like so many of you out there and I do not want to loose my jail break CyCorder is SO cool :)), so I do not think that is a new feature.

The first time I did it, I had the same thought: OMG, have I ever "accidentally" deleted email this way?

But you still have to choose to delete, just like using the edit button.

I'm looking thru the software to see how to set the stated "addtional text reminder" and can't find it...

anyone?

thx, mike

I haven't updated yet but I would assume that it would be a feature that is always there. (i.e. you don't have to turn it on or of, it will always give you the second reminder.)

I have been backing up for half an hour now, I thought this was supposed to be faster?

I love how, immediately after updating, everyone reports that 2.1 is "snappier"....just like 2.0.2 was "snappier"....and 2.0.1 was "snappier"....

Me, I'm waiting a couple of days to see how things shake out. Not that I love 2.0.2, but I do love the apps I have added via Cydia.

Second text alert - stop asking how to set it

It's my understanding there's no "setting" for the 2 additional text alerts. It is enabled by default and works like this:

You receive a text message. The phone alerts you with vibration and sound. You do nothing to your phone. The phone automatically gives the vib/sound notification again after a set time period. You still do nothing. The phone does the vib/sound notification one more time after a set period, then stops.

If you view the text message before the two extra alerts (or after the first extra), then the phone will not alert you again.

I'm thinking that this has been the most eagerly awaited update (more than 2.0 possibly?) based on the number of people posting on here the thread has shot up.

I agree that new features can come later. Lets hope time shows that all the bugs are fixed. I'm lucky I havent been as plagued as some people. My missus was about to take hers back due to the SMS lag. Mine ws intermittent so cant comment if it has improved and she is out and hasnt updated.

If we can get TomTom on it I will be happy as its why I upgraded grom 1st Gen (I preferred its aesthetics)

it's only faster AFTER you install 2.1. My son's both have the iPod Touch and it took 2 minutes to back theirs up. My 1st gen iPhone is still backing up 35 minutes later...but I'm very hopeful this will be much better after the update!

No Genius in 2.1?

What a rip! The new update doesn't have the genius feature found on the new touch or nano. Or am I missing it?

And I would've really like the "shake to shuffle" feature. Can't find that anywhere either.
