VERY INTERESTING. Okay, since I had never synced my phone to my computer before, and therefore I had zero songs and zero Apps, then perhaps that explains why the backup plus installation took a total of 12 minutes total. I'm going to remember this next time I think about adding Apps.

So you're considering never to add apps because it may or may not take a few more minutes to back up your phone? Is it that big of a deal?

You might want to loosen up your schedule if that's a deal breaker for you

Just tried testing the second text reminder and got nothing. It is the same as before. I look through the Preferences and there was nothing there.

Hopefully someone can find it if it does exist because I would love a second text reminder!

I love how, immediately after updating, everyone reports that 2.1 is "snappier"....just like 2.0.2 was "snappier"....and 2.0.1 was "snappier"....

Me, I'm waiting a couple of days to see how things shake out. Not that I love 2.0.2, but I do love the apps I have added via Cydia.

theres no shake to shuffle

ahahahahahahahahah I'm so funny........

er......

hello?

Who knows? Have someone send you a text and don't unlock your phone to check it, let it sit and see if it vibrates or chimes again? :)

OIC,

I thought perhaps it was a setting (which i couldn't find).

Sitting on an unopened text right now-will post back if it pings again.

What a rip! The new update doesn't have the genius feature found on the new touch or nano. Or am I missing it?

And I would've really like the "shake to shuffle" feature. Can't find that anywhere either.

Genuis is there. Activate it in iTunes then do a re-sync. There is no Shake-to-Shuffle though.

Whether you have 2 bars of 3G or 5 bars of 3G does not affect the speed. It just tells how strong the signal is. It does not make it faster or slower. I know this because I have specifically experimented with this many times before. Use one of the speed test websites and you will see for yourself.

Can i please have the website for the speedtest ??

I noticed, quite by accident, that wiping my finger left and right across the email lists enables and disables the "Delete" button for whatever email was under the finger motion. I suppose it's a handy feature although I'm going to be upset if I actually delete mail by accident because of it. The Edit button was a lot safer, IMO.

I don't need any Apple fan counterpoint or justification here, just mentioning it.

This feature has been there since V1

It's my understanding there's no "setting" for the 2 additional text alerts. It is enabled by default and works like this:

You receive a text message. The phone alerts you with vibration and sound. You do nothing to your phone. The phone automatically gives the vib/sound notification again after a set time period. You still do nothing. The phone does the vib/sound notification one more time after a set period, then stops.

If you view the text message before the two extra alerts (or after the first extra), then the phone will not alert you again.

Fanks!:)

Ps i'll ask as many times as i like and you can ignore me an equal amount ;-)

Damn BACKUP

I'm still waiting for the backup before the install starts. Damnit I hope that speeds things up this time around.. Backups are the mortal enemy of the iPhone user....

Would someone mind posting the update to some personal webspace, or a large file sharing site? I keep getting an error that is likely caused by having things locked down over here by the IT department. Here is the link to the file that I need. PM me or AIM (tobfirst) if you can help. I'm very appreciative. Thanks.

All i want is updated apps to not lose their place on my home pages.

I take the time to organize each page e.g. one games page one utility page one communications page etc. then when ever they get updated it screws up my whole system!

Maybe i'm just a little OCD - but come on :apple:!

Why not just move that app to the correct location when it's downloading. After it's done the old one disappears and your organized apps is back! :)

I can confirm the first item.. definitely seems louder.

Also, the volume buttons appear to work while the iPhone is locked.

As per the second and third items.. I always assumed the "second speaker" was, in fact, the mic. And mine still does not produce sound. I also cannot shake to shuffle playlists.

My external volume control has always worked with the phone locked.

Please read some of the posts before repeating what many others have already written. Same goes for people complaining about how long it's taking to back up the iPhone BEFORE THE UPDATE IS EVEN ON THEIR IPHONE!!!!!!!!!!

Not 100% convinced that the signal bars is a true indication. Just did a test with the Speedtest app and only got 578k for down and 116k for up and this is with 5 bars on 3G. Before it would be 1 maybe 2 and would jump back to edge. Sometimes now after the update it will be 4-5 bars 3G then it would switch to Edge with the bars still reading 4-5. weird. Then again I'm in an odd part of the office. Bars are way more than before but not really sure its a true indication.

This feature was always there, not new with 2.1, just pointing out...

3G reception improved for me from 0/1 bars at work to 3/4 bars. Wow! I'll be interested to see how it is at my house.

SMS seems faster. Contacts still had a little lag but not as bad.

That's all I've messed with so far.

Am I getting this right? Anyone can just take my phone and wipe all its data after they get the passcode wrong ten times? Not sure I like that.

so you rather let the f*ckers who steal your iphone get access to all your data, emails, phone numbers, photos of your partner?

once you enter the passcode incorrectly 7 times, you have to wait 1 minute before retrying. Then on the 8th time you need to wait 5 minutes. I haven't gotten pass the 5 minute wait. I guess it will then be 10 minutes, then 20, then all data is erased.

I would still rather get an option to remote wipe using me.com web interface, but this is a good compromise.
