Ooo I'm on the train at the moment but this will be the first thing I do when I walk through the door.

Whoop!

You know guys, Ijust spend 10 mins removing all of my apps from my phone via iTunes. That way, the backup is done in no time at all.

F.Y.I: putting the apps back onto your phone is extremely fast. Install time has sped up 10-fold!

2.1 Infuriates me - Only Revenue interests Jobs

The genius tool makes me upset because it makes it perfectly clear what are Job's priorities. Genius is nothing more than a commercial for more music to purchase!!!!

We have been clamoring for more than a year now about cut and paste. If apple refuses to listen to it's customers it is going to become just like Microsoft and sooner or later someone will come out with a better product that will them in the dust. AT&T stores are already promoting RIM products over iPhones. If the iPhone is going to become the infinitely more useful tool that is should be it needs basic, basic utilities that other products have. We all know that 2.5G phones were just duped into beta testing the 3G phone. The iPhone is ultimately making us beta testers for a tablet so they need to focus on the function that users want and stop focusing on stupid music visualizers and music commercials on the phone and give us cut and paste.

very slow 3g network speeds with speed test, I'm wondering if they simply made the bars show a stronger signal then they actually do, that way if we complain about signal strength they can say, "well you have 4-5 bars, its not our problem"

I used to get 1.3 mbps now its 200kbps

I'm facing the same issue. Before I used to have 2-3 bars and i was getting 1.1 to 1.4 mbps and after the upgrade, i have full bars now getting very slow speed 300kbps

For an accurate test of your 3G signal strength, and to see if the 2.1 update really does someting, other than just bump the bars up visually, put your iPhone into "Field Test Mode" prior to the update and then after the update. Example:

To do so, go to the number pad and type *3001#12345#* hit send.
Look at the numeic indicator next to your carrier logo in the upper left of the screen. The lower the number, the weaker the signal. Keep in mind that all numbers are actually - negative. The closer to 0 the better the signal. This is resulted from the carrier, not from Apple.

-75 gives all 5 bars of strength. Call quality is perfect.
-105 no bars, just barely hanging on to 3G. Call quality is sub par.

to exit field test mode, just hit your home button. Ther are a slew of other things in this mode that you can see, but unless you are a UMTS technician, most of it will be gibberish to you. This will really tell you what is going on behind the scenes of the signal bar.

where do you do this, phone or text?

Except that bars and speed often have nothing to do with each other.

When there are network problems and my speed suffers, I generally still get the same number of bars as usual. The connection strength is not the same as the network speed.

just updated to 2.1... turned on 3G and I get full signal before I didn't get any. But my bars don't show 3G besides it.

I had cancelled the data but i would think that would make no difference...
anyone else seeing the same thing.

where do you do this, phone or text?

Phone keypad. Then hit 'call.'

You HAVE to type it. Making it a link or a contact and hitting that won't do it.

I did add it as a contact, so that when I'm done typing it I can see the name pop up at the top and I know I got it right. Having it in contacts helps confirm it for me that I did it right, but I have to type it. Clicking it in contacts does nothing.

Wow, just about everything feels faster! No more typing lag.

Also, you might think I'm crazy but the sleep/wake button is now way more sensitive! Before the update I had to push it really hard and it would work only from certain angles but now I can just push it normally and it will work every time!

Thanks, Apple!

It switches between -77 and -81, which according to iPhone equals 5 bars of signal strength. If 0 is perfect signal and -100 is no signal then how is -81 worth 5 bars?

After a few tests... it does in fact sync, or at least seems to.

I deleted some songs from a synced playlist on my mac, sync'd, then they were removed from the iPhone.

uh...

dunno.

ERROR READS: "the iphone XXX cannot be synced. an unknown error occured (13213)"

iTunes however says "sync is complete"

just installed 2.1

iPhone goes thru the whole sync process then display the error below.

Anyone else?

repeat notifications

I am fearful of being yelled at for duplicating a post - but here i go..............lol

the repeat notifications is automatic - no setting for it.

bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha

Where is the new repeat function at or how do I test it out? I didn't see any options in the settings.

Can anyone hear the sound of my forehead bumping repeatedly against my desk?

READ THE PRIOR POSTS PEOPLE!!!!!!

Youtube

Could someone test out the Youtube app over 3g? Are the vids still look blocky, or do they now look like they do on Wifi?

i'm still running the backup that's part of the install... but it appears to be stuck. for the past 9 minutes, it's been in the exact same spot on the blue progress bar.... argh!

i'm torn between just quitting and tryign again later... or keeping it connected to see if it starts up again. did this happen to anyone else?

battery life

Just curious, how does a firmware update improve battery life? And is this only in the 3G or is it supposed to increase battery life in the original as well?

I dont know why they use such low numbers, but in every test, the lower the number -95, -100 the worse the signal actually is. If you move closer to -80, -75, its 5 bars and great data / voice every time.

Is there something WRONG with the 2.1 or it's just my iPhone 3G that is screwed ?? After this update my Safari web loading speed is so slow !!

I tried to do a speed test by going to www.testmyiphone.com

But i can't run it after this update !! WHY ??

Day and Night i couldn't sleep because i was so excited about this new update. But now i'm getting this kind of slow speed connection. I have regretted updating...

first impression of 2.1

-backup much faster (full 16 gb iphone, with lots of apps, contacts, music, pics etc)
- overall responsivness improved, especially noticed with safari and contacts
- softwares snappiness and stability seems more like 1.x quality and makes up for that rocky 2.0 release
-genius available in ipod
- artists songs in a playlist have a second info line, diplaying album and artist, like in remote app
- apps keep their place after update and install faster
- passcode security flaw is corrected
- new logos for 3G edge etc.

what we unfortunately don't have:
no nike plus
no shuffle upon shaking
no background notification

and i can't find sms repeat notification feature and more tunes to be notified? can anyone explain?
