I am fearful of being yelled at for duplicating a post - but here i go..............lol

the repeat notifications is automatic - no setting for it.

bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha

Sorry for "yelling". I suppose I am just being impatient as I continue to wait for the backup to finish before installing the update and I would rather see useful posts instead of the same questions over and over again

Phone keypad. Then hit 'call.'

You HAVE to type it. Making it a link or a contact and hitting that won't do it.

I did add it as a contact, so that when I'm done typing it I can see the name pop up at the top and I know I got it right. Having it in contacts helps confirm it for me that I did it right, but I have to type it. Clicking it in contacts does nothing.

when i type it in phone i just get an error, nothing else

Operator txt?

Installed the update and it seems to work pretty well!

I noticed that the '3G' has been changed
And also, the operator text (in my case T-Mobile) does not fit on the screen anymore. Now it is like: "T-Mo..." Strange thing is that this was corrected with the last update... (2.0.2)

not sure if anywhere here can answer this, but figured maybe. If I have my iphone here and I move overseas to a country with legal iphones, can I just buy a new sim card there and put it in my US-bought iphone? i.e., will it treat the SIM card like a US DVD player would treat a different region's DVD, or will it recognize that the SIM card is iphone friendly? Anyone know?

no, it will stay locked for AT&T.
You will have to unlock it (only currently possible using *sim solutions) or buy a new iphone

It switches between -77 and -81, which according to iPhone equals 5 bars of signal strength. If 0 is perfect signal and -100 is no signal then how is -81 worth 5 bars?

It doesn't go all the way down to 0. I'm not sure how low it goes, but I think it's in the 60s or 70s.

Too scared it might take over 9000 years to backup before updating, so I just did a restore. Need my phone cleaned up anyway :)

Now syncing all my music back.

I know it hasn't been long but, how much improvement is the battery life?

1st gen sync after initial install was much improved. Backup portion was 7 minutes compared to 50 minutes before! :) I am using a PPC mini 1.42, so maybe that contributes to the slow times, but I am MUCH happier about this.

Also, as mentioned numerous times, the Genius option does NOT appear until after you re-sync. It's there now for me :D

very slow 3g network speeds with speed test, I'm wondering if they simply made the bars show a stronger signal then they actually do, that way if we complain about signal strength they can say, "well you have 4-5 bars, its not our problem"

I used to get 1.3 mbps now its 200kbps

So you didn't complain before right ? I think it has nothing to do with the update , but with your providers network. Might be very busy at the moment.

Huge glitch after update. If i get a text and try to 'slide to view' nothing happens. It's like my finger isn't even there. To fix it i have to sleep the phone again then turn it back on...

I noticed this in the settings<about

under network it went from just ATT to ATT 2.6 (I'm in an EDGE area at the moment)

lol I never noticed that. I have "movistar 2.7"

I guess that's the "operator settings" version. We at movistar got a setting update just a few days ago..

After update, when getting -95db, it is still 5 bars.
Before, I have to get -75db to get 5 bars.
Seems like it just changed the way how to compute/translate db (signal strength) to bars.
Is the signal problem fixed, who knows??

I was hoping to have SMS forwarding but I guess not.
I don't ever remember Apple promising a whole bucket full of new features.
Although I totally agree with you that we need SMS forwarding!
What I really want is the ability to highlight a paragraph of text then click "delete" instead of having to backspace every single letter!

ok first of all I want to say this update is great and def appreciated. However backing up still takes forever and I cannot understand why apple added a new txt alert before other features that the whole world wants ?????? I haven't heard one complaint about somebody not having enough of an alert for their txt. But hey I have heard people talk about mms, blue tooth, copy and paste...etc.. I just don't understand the logic. But thanks for all the improvements still I hope they work well

Yeah, I know what you're complaining about. I'm waiting myself and it's been more than an hour. If you did realize that 2.1 is not on your iPhone then what are you complaining about then? Why would backup times be different before the update? They have always been slow!

The person that I was quoting obviously did not realize it or else he wouldn't have said that he thought backups weren't going to take so long. Comments don't have to meet my approval but posting up the same trivial complaints as others clutters up the board when all you'd have to do is skim the posts and look for the answers to your gripes. It's a waste of everyone's time, not just mine.

This is a message board where dorks like us collect together and actually post messages regarding our experience of the download and install of the update of new firmware for our cell phones. People should probably point and laugh at all of us.

With that said, you're asking why I would post a message saying how long my backup is taking? This is exactly where I SHOULD post that. I post it so others will know that's my experience with this so far and therefore if they are experiencing it as well - they are not alone. The whole point of this board is so we can hear about this process of other users. Let people post on the board and stop complaining.

SAME HERE !!

I used to get 1 mbps on firmware 2.0.2

After the 2.1 update, i'm only getting 100kbps.

Now i'm really pissed off

there is now a block in the capacity meter when the iPhone is connected to iTunes for "Apps"

the 3G icon now looks different.

This just in: the support rep for Rebel SIM says 2.1 works fine with v33 of Rebel SIM:

You are now chatting with PreSales Support

PreSales Support: Welcome to Rebel Simcard Pre Sales Chat. Please tell your me your country & how may i help you ?
Mike Risi: Good evening
Mike Risi: I am in South Korea
Mike Risi: from Canada though, with an iPhone 3G
PreSales Support: How may i help you ?
Mike Risi: i know it's a bit early, but have you heard of anyone running the 2.1 firmware with a rebel sim?
PreSales Support: Yes, we have already tested it in our labs
PreSales Support: and its working fine
Mike Risi: promise?
Mike Risi: did you have to upgrade the rebel sim firmware?
Mike Risi: I'm just nervous because I have a rebel sim on the way, but I didn't order the programmer.
PreSales Support: yes, i am sure.
PreSales Support: Moreover we are also pushing out a new update for rebel simcard so its better to order the programmer
PreSales Support: but you will be receiving the v33 and it also works
Mike Risi: The problem is that I wasn't able to order from you guys, because both google checkout and paypal were giving me trouble with my phone number
Mike Risi: anyway
Mike Risi: I think I'll hang tight until I get the chip
Mike Risi: but there's still no way of me knowing what firmware is on it without having a programmer...
Mike Risi: what a dilemma.
PreSales Support: no
Mike Risi: can i use any sim programmer, or do I need the one that you guys sell?

Yeah, that's my real name. Wanna fight about it?
