Does this fix the ALoD?

Technically it should, because the ALoD was there because apps were taking so long to install.

Now that they install faster, it should be fixed. As long as an application doesn't take what, more than two minutes someone said?

yes they are more important!!!!!

I mean seriously was 2 alerts extra for a text message really above in priority to copy and paste?

For some that is way more important! Actially I'd rather have a mode that alerted continously some things are that important. Same thing with calendar events, ideally here one would need to a selection for an alert that would remain active until acknowledged.

In some ways I understand the calls for copy and paste but let's face it for most people there are many other features desired that are much higher on the list. It seems like Apple has gotten a grip on IPhone software development and now has a plan to get back on track. The fact that this update is pretty much a bug fix release indicates to me that software quality won out over new features. That is good to hear for iPhone but I do hope that new revisions to things like AIR fix the lack of features.

Wrong! e-mail is a poor excuse considering you want to send it to any other phone in the world. Hell if you want e-mail so bad then just send a text as an e-mail. MMS is a big feature thats missing and its ridiculous! I dont even get notices about picture messages I cant look at.

I'm sure you already know this, but using email, you can send MMS's to any phone... you just need to know the email address associated with the phone you're trying to send an MMS to.

e.g. 4155551212@vwpix.com for Verizon, etc.

Just sayin...

My 3g connection actually got worse! How could that have happened? I upgraded from 2.0.1 to 2.1 and before in my house i got 1-3 bars on 3g, now I can't get any 3g and have been stuck on 5 bars edge. WTH is up?

I thought that, so checked the settings, 3G was turned off..

May aswell have a quick look and see if yours is of too

restore before update??

if i restore before update, will it be faster?

sorry if this has already been discussed. if it has, what number post was it??

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

so I can't figure out the genius playlist thing.

For some reason Genius only activates if you copy new music to your iPhone. Make sure that you have gone through the whole activation of genius on your iTunes. Then copy a new song to your iPhone or delete a song from your iPhone and put it back on your iphone. When iTunes syncs with music, it will enable Genius in the playlists on your iPhone's iPod.

i keep getting this though the phone has been updated ans synced

contact lag is largely gone, signal strength is VASTLY IMPROVED!! (Vancouver, BC)

Still having 2 problems:

1. All of my custom ringtones got deleted from my contacts. They are still in the phone, I just now have to go and reset them, that's not cool.

2. Anytime an app has an update, I try to update it, and there is an error and it won't update. This is getting to be a realllll pain, waiting on hold with Apple as all of their advice hasn't fixed anything.

Anyone else's contacts lose their ringtones?

Everything on my iPhone 3G feels much snappier after updating to 2.1 although my signal has gotten a bit stranger (who knew?).

In my house I always had bad 3G reception (well, reception of any kind actually) but when I would turn 3G on I would have 1-2 or no bars, and when i turned 3G off I would have like 2-3 bars of EDGE.

Now after the update, if I turn 3G on I get "No Service" and if I turn it off I get a full 5 bars on EDGE. The iPhone won't even downshift into EDGE from 3G, it just says "No Service" I have to literally shut 3G off in order to get EDGE to work. Strange!

I still find software signal boosts a bit shady...

Code:
if(signal.strength() < 2)
{
     temp = signal.strength();

     //Hope nobody notices
     temp += 2;

     draw(signalBar, temp);

     //nice...
}

What do you mean "not real GPS"?? Are you talking about iPhone 2G? Cos iPhone 3G most certainly does have real GPS. Or are you confused about what A-GPS is?

No, I mean "real" GPS as in being actually useful, as in turn-by-turn. The 3G has been out long enough, there should have been navigation apps out by now, to make some use of the GPS chip. Unless, of course, there is either a problem with the GPS chip used by the iPhone, or Apple is blocking availability.

And really, cut&paste is available on the most primitive smart phones. Same with a landscape keyboard, to make it easier to text.

IMHO, cut&paste, useful GPS and landscape keyboard are much more important in everyday use, than something like Genius (which is actually great.) Heck, so is mms.

I guess my phone is bad

Well I have now upgraded to 2.1 and I still have no signal with 3G but perfect with Edge. I guess I have to go the the Apple store:(

Okay, I'm sure somebody must have already posted this in this thread, but... as stupid as it sounds, my OCD LOVES the fact that they finally made a separate square showing how much space Applications are taking up on the iPhone in iTunes :)

Have to disagree

Sending an MMS is not that big of a deal, it is receiving the MMS from other people. The way ATT handles it is a URL with a unique login and password, and unfortunately, it does not work on Safari for the iPhone because the way it serves the image up is a flash interface. So I have to wait until a get to a computer to even look at the MMS. That is simply annoying.

And not everyone has email on their phone to send a photo.

While agree with you that the inability to receive MMS messages is a pain, Safari does indeed load these images. I have done it numerous times....from my iPhone. Just wish I had a copy and paste, so I didn't have to try and remember the login ID# , and password!!

mmm..

Well I guess I'm screwed until apple releases iTunes 8.1, because iTunes 8 hasn't been launching on my computer.

well.. mine doesn't quit. I can't shutdown. does not quit. no force quit. no terminal thingy. nothing works. i have to login to another account just to restart, even after updates. and this was from 7.7 days. i thought itunes 8 would cure this but maybe it's a deeper issue.
